we would like to move on to dilithium 102.
This.
It is hard to take this article as anything other than an insult to the community.
You are the people who added an entire seasons worth of content to the game and added ZERO dilithium as a reward for doing any of that content, so don't preach this dribble to us as if we are the ones who simply don't understand basic economic design in MMOs.

Crptic dev: "Maybe there are lots of players inside our game who don't understand what to do with the dil."
Cryptic dev 2: "I know! We'll put the info on a blog."
The thing is, people who read the forums/site are already aware of this. People who dont arent going to be made aware of it by posting it somewhere they dont read.
umm, I'm sure in the last few months I've seen this article show up at lest 4 times by now. Instead of reposting this article every so often can you please write a beginners guide for STO and have all these articles that explain important game concepts in a simple guide to assist new players? re-posting the same article seems to be a waste.
Obligatory monthly post ranting about the obligatory monthly Dilithium 101 post to be responded by the obligatory comment about how Diltihium 101 is obligatorily (is that even a word?) posted every month.
Obligatory remark about how this article should just be stickied on the website. Obligatory comment about how the community or Cryptic should create an actual New Player guide.
The opinions expressed in my posts are not necessarily those of my employer or Subspace Radio.

I guess I missed it, because this is the first time I'm seeing it. The other one was posted on Oct. 10th thought, so that's not really monthly... unless "anytime in the following month" counts, in which case I vote the December version go up on the 1st so we can get it out of the way.
and someone thought this actually made sense because....? Aside from making it look like the company is money hungry by constantly throwing the exact same money-related article at everyone (and yes, thats what it is, don't insult us by saying this isn't only about money) it gives the impression that whoever is in charge over there doesn't understand the basic features of a message board. like, you know, the ability to sticky threads
there is a word for constantly reposting the same thing over and over: spam. smart companies don't spam their customers, especially when there is no reason to. smart people don't claim its a good idea either. someone needs a talking to over there
what you are doing is nothing more than spam. there is an academy section for new players. the only reason you would even consider doing this in the first place is for new players, its not relevant to anyone else. therefore common sense says post a sticky there with this information. that is all that is needed. anything else is the literal definition of spam - which, last time I checked is against the rules around here.
or is this a case of do what I say, not what I do? hmm? because handing out infractions when people do exactly what you yourself are doing isn't likely to go over well. I know i'm going to have something to say the next time someone accuses me of 'spam'
The thing is, people who read the forums/site are already aware of this. People who dont arent going to be made aware of it by posting it somewhere they dont read.
I still like that I can play four hours a day and have about 400 dilithium to show for it. That's what I like.
I also like that, since everything cool needs dilithium, I'm forced to grind certain missions, that I don't like, over and over to get more than a pittance.
I like that it doesn't make any sense for the "time generated currency" to totally ignore the vast majority of the time I spend in-game.
Finally, I like that my fleet is always totally broke because the dilithium sinks are set up with big fleets in mind. After all, if we can't come up with hundreds of thousands of dilithium every single week, we're obviously not grinding the same ten missions over and over in the appropriate way!
/sarcasm
Seriously though, I'm getting tired of everything costing dilithium, but the only ways to get dilithium are to grind stuff. I understand that you want to push people towards certain activities, but why not do that with boosts? Every activity in the game, including story missions, should generate dilithium. If I play for four hours on a Saturday, I want some dilithium to show for it, I don't want to be forced into doing public q after public q.

Also, dont forget they removed Dilthium, wont add any to key points of the game and watered down the already low rewarded Dilithium on what is left
It isn't just that Cryptc do not know economics in MMO's, they don't even know basic game design to start with :P
Crptic dev: "Maybe there are lots of players inside our game who don't understand what to do with the dil."
Cryptic dev 2: "I know! We'll put the info on a blog."
More like :
Crptic dev 1: "Ppl are not making as much Dilithium as we want them to ."
Crptic dev 2: "Could it be that they are not playing the game in the exact fashion we want them to in the exact hours we want them to ?"
Crptic dev 3: "Could this be free will , or just a big misunderstanding ?"
Crptic dev 4:"Nah , they are not making enough Dilithium because they don't understand what Dilithium is for . We'll need to Blog this S%^&t again ..."
Reduce dilithium earned, increase dilithium needed, grind like hell.

I usually try to reserve judgment or opinion in many cases, but in this case I'd have to agree--this would be much better served in a guide for newbies rather than reposted month after month.
I mean, if those of us who've been here don't know how to use and refine dil at this point, we're hopeless.
It really does look like rubbing our noses in the Great Dil Nerf That's Being Marketed As A "Shift"....
Im wondering could you guys launch the STF guide that was posted a long time ago that would be a really nice thing to post monthly. Just wondering because it would be nice for people to see that it will help PUGs out a lot.
When you say monthly it makes it sound like something changes from each time you publish it.
Trust me, if they haven't seen it by now they aren't going to see it. Also, as many devs have said only more "seasoned" players actually visit the website. The odds that they need this article at all are very slim.
Perhaps an article about how to gather each type of Mark or even one regarding EC would be a nice alternative.
I feel better in that I don't come to these forums hoping for answers or other useful information that might tell me something is being 'fixed' in an update, or there might be new interesting content to look forward to. Much less disappointed that way. I'm incredibly glad I had enough time when I decided to check this game out again a few weeks ago to grind the 'old' STF system and acquire the Borg/Omega/MACO stuff before this Craputation system was implemented. Looking at the requirements now is just LOL.
I just played for 90 minutes! Yay! I'm contributing to the game environment! Yay! I played with other players! Yay! At peak West coast play times! Yay! Guess how much dilithium I earned?
Drum-roll please!!!
*25* big ones!
And those were from Doff missions!
Guess how much dilithium I need for a single new beam array?
*only 25,000*!!!!
Sweet glory, I only need to play for 417 more hours and that sweet, sweet tier XI beam array is mine!

Or you could BUY ZEN and convert it. If you don't know how, wait a month and they'll rerun Dilth 101 for you which explains the conversion process.
There ARE other ways to earn ZEN but they are being whittled down every patch. Soon, you'll earn 1-2 dilth per DOFF mission, and get a handfull for running various missions.
But never fret! YOU CAN BUY ZEN AND CONVERT IT, Cryptic will remind you of that EVERY MONTH, rest assured.
Two days, I haven't played at all. And I don't miss it. Prob'ly won't play tomorrow either. Friday isn't looking too good either.

Well said.
Where have I seen that before???
Here! :P
Yes folks, Cryptic is caught in a temporal causality loop!
Commander, Starfleet Corps of Engineers • 7th Fleet
Commanding Officer, U.S.S. HEART OF OAK • NX-1759-B • Odyssey class Star Cruiser ( Lexington Tactical Configuration))
(Steam - feel free to follow/friend me : )

Edit: here's a good quote from the last post:
Yes, this was the point I was trying to make.
Why not put these up in a Menu called' Guides' and build it up.
No need to spam the front page.

This is for devs... Start creating things that the KDF could spend their dilithium on.
This concludes Dilithium 102.

ROLL TIDE ROLL
The grand plan of having people spend ZEN and convert it is NOT working.
Must be because we don't know HOW to operate the Zen exchange. LETS read it again one more time...
Yep, same as last time. Clearly they are expecting us to buy ZEN... and convert it.
I mean why else would they sharply reduce in-game rewards?
Im wondering could you guys launch the STF guide that was posted a long time ago that would be a really nice thing to post monthly. Just wondering because it would be nice for people to see that it will help PUGs out a lot.

Maybe change it up once in a while?
Perhaps this should be TM'd by Cryptic also...
They seem to be quite good at bringing it upon themselves.
