Let us all take a deep breath and reset our neural circuitry from all the discussions about the grind, dilithium sink, etc etc.

I would like to present: THE POLL - Your favourite Star Trek character ever!

Please reply with your favourite character and why he/she is your fav character :D

    Q. He could bring smiles to any ep of any show, even Voyager. Even if the plot and other characters sucked, Q himself was always fun.

The EMH doctor from Voyager played by Robert Picardo. His episodes in voyager were some of the best ones. Brilliant actor too..

Wow, tough one. Picard is awesome, Worf would be a good choice, as would Garak of course, but my all time favourite would have to be Q(John de Lancie).

Why? Well, who can really explain Q? My favourite part is when he becomes mortal and says it's something wrong with his stomach because it hurts:) He possesses the same curiosity which star trek stands for, and that could be why he gets my vote.

Miles O'Brian - The greatest bit character that ever lived, lol.

    Also, as a special mention...

Mirror Universe Ezri Dax (for looks more than anything else), and Mirror Universe Hoshi (because she is just outright evil).

Yuta is one of my faves. There's not many times where I actually feel that much sympathy for characters.

Hmm... Probably either Riker or O'Brien.

I always wished Riker would take over the Ent-D because I thought he would make for a much more exciting captain than Picard, more along the lines of what Sisko turned out to be.

The "O'Brien must suffer" episodes were some of my favorite in DS9. I guess because he seemed more approachable and down to earth than some of the commissioned officers. Kind of an "Joe Everyman" character.

    Porthos is not amused.

I'd have to say my favorite character all round, would be the Doctor (VOY).

I prefer to categorize my favorites in terms of their relationships with other characters, i.e. Odo to Quark and Quark to Odo. However, Picardo played the doctor extremely well, consistently, and while his character's growth was certainly a result of his interactions/relationships with others, he also seemed to push himself to grow and encounter new things on his own volition - quite a lot, and mostly by himself, moreso than other characters across the various series, imo.

Luther Sloan, the leader of Section 31. Man, that guy was such a cool addition to the Star Trek universe.

I'll admit Sloan was a cool 'bad guy' in DS9, but he was still no O'Brien.

Captain Archer. He was by far the most human of the captains: he had to overcome prejudice, accept unappealing truths, and do things he never thought he's be capable of doing.

The others are all great, but they all seem to live in an era where mankind has overcome many of its bad qualities; whereas with Archer we got to see him actually doing it.

"Critics who say that the optimistic utopia Star Trek depicted is now outmoded forget the cultural context that gave birth to it: Star Trek was not a manifestation of optimism when optimism was easy. Star Trek declared a hope for a future that nobody stuck in the present could believe in. For all our struggles today, we haven’t outgrown the need for stories like Star Trek. We need tales of optimism, of heroes, of courage and goodness now as much as we’ve ever needed them."

A true warrior captain, who holds the distinction of being the only person ever to punch Q in the face. :D

O'Brian for me. That might just be because I'm an enlisted Engineering type too. :D

Sloan was under utilized, I could imagine him being the Chesty Puller of Section 31
