Exactly right mcghiey13, and those of us who've shelled out a lot of cash in support of the game have opinions that should be taken seriously if they want continued revenue growth. If in the face of an onslaught of opposition they choose to stick their heads in the sand, that really runs totally counter to their self interests. I'd be embarrassed to be their little corporate stooge in a situation like this.

People compain and still play the game because they are passionate about the game. The changes have not toally destroyed the game. But the changes are ground shaking. The developer are pushing people in the playing the game the way the devs want them to. And play the content the devs want them to play.
The Blog says it all. You spent 3.5 hours a play session. Doing cotent your consider fun. That won't do. The devs want you to have to spent that entire time to earn dilithium if you want any more then mission rewards in terms of equipment. And your meger dilithium have to be split amount gearing up, earning zen for C-Store purchases, fleet projects or embassy projects. Pick one to do quick or spread yourself thin and take forever less a day to do any of it. This for the casual player.

We complain because we're avid players. When I really don't enjoy a game, leaving is very easy.
The lack of dilithium is not a problem for me. The problem is doing something that is rather demanding, and when I am done, there is no sense of gain. Dilithium was good for that, and now it is gone. I play and play and I get.... nothing?
I don't know what reputation gets me yet. I do know that star bases are now going nowhere. I am pretty sure embassies are not going anywhere until we see the grind leading somewhere that we want to go.
I will give it some time, but there are strong tides in the MMO world that are pulling me away from STO. I have spent a ton of money here, and while I may not be missed, if enough people like me lose interest... then that will definitely be missed by Cryptic.
Still, the blatantly contradictory statements of this posting are troubling. "We want people to refine more dilithium, so we're removing the largest sources of it." Excuse me?
Dstahl : "oopppsss , we were hoping you guys would not catch that part ... . Oh well , be quiet an go play some FA's .
Thissss I Command ! "
I play nice. I do my best to defend the Devs from the boneheaded forum-goers.
Good for you . We all simply have to have a pointles jihad in our lives , so glad you have yours . I hope you at least get payed .
But so help me, this Dilithium change has me as close to outright nerd-splosion as I can stand.
Wait ... is this the reason your outdated Galaxy-X "troll the players" sig just went away ?
Totally removing dilithium as a direct reward from STF's is stupid. There is nice way to say it. This is a terrible, terrible idea,
Oh ... I love it when the Cryptic Defense League crumbles .
It always takes that "last straw" , but dammit it always happens .
Now, this is me we're talking about here.
Off course it is ! The Center of the Universe a you know it .
It's just so nice to see that you think that Cryptic (and we all) need to see that "obvious fact" as well .
How could we have missed it for sooo loooong ???
Concern 1 ? Active level 50 players are refining far less Dilithium than we expect them to.
Prior to Season 7, the average amount of Dilithium refined by an active level 50 player was 3100 per session or 13,250 per week. That is far less than the cap of 8000 per day when you consider that most level 50 players play multiple days per week and slightly more than the average hours per session.
-> That is probably because the only effective way to grind dilithium is doing STFs. Those STFs are boring if you have to do them multiple times a day. I for example only play Cure Space Normal or Infected Space Elite. All others are boring or the risk is too high to loose it with a pug. Then you have your 45 minute cooldown or what not and limit us in getting dilithium and you still wonder why lot of players dont reach the cap? We have other things to do instead of wasting hours and hours on the same content. Now you changed something, lets see if its successful. As far as i heard, you removed dilithium from the STFs which means that i probably wont get any dilithium at all anymore (except when i work even more and do some projects which i dont want). I dont play the fleet actions (very rarely) because they are boring. Its always the same. You have to defend XYZ. I dont like to be defender, i am an attacker.
Good for you . We all simply have to have a pointles jihad in our lives , so glad you have yours . I hope you at least get payed .
It's a choice. One can only stand by and see so many idiots sling baseless accusation with only the flimsiest evidence for so long before one feels the need to call them out on their stupidity.
Besides, you forgot the part where I said I tell them what I think is wrong, too (which incidentally was the entire point of the post you cherry-picked from). You're trying to paint me as some apologist by omitting statements. Poor form.
Wait ... is this the reason your outdated Galaxy-X "troll the players" sig just went away ?
No, that went away for something else entirely. The new thing got moderated, and I can't say anything else due to rules.
But I do need a new sig. Might cook up something new. Maybe inflamatory, maybe not, but I certainly have a juicy topic to base it on if I want to be a little nuisance about it.
Oh ... I love it when the Cryptic Defense League crumbles .
It always takes that "last straw" , but dammit it always happens .
Just because I've never been really upset at a choice they've made doesn't make mt an apologist. Calling them out on a decision I think is bad doesn't mean I've crumbled. I'm no different than any sane person voicing their concerns, it just took longer for me to have a concern to start with.
Off course it is ! The Center of the Universe a you know it .
It's just so nice to see that you think that Cryptic (and we all) need to see that "obvious fact" as well .
How could we have missed it for sooo loooong ???
Bad wording on my part, mistake in retrospect. The intent was something akin to "Look man, I'm your friend and I'm trying to give you advice" in a conversational manner, followed by the proposition of a potential middle ground.
Clearly I should have omitted the part you quoted and gotten straight to the proposition. My bad.
I do not play VAs (delete and create new toon after reach RA1) and I for once agree with Sophie.
Why the hell are you all moaning? You can get dilithium faster and easier then before. Fleet Actions, as I get it, are faster and easier then any STF. So, you will play the same content all time - just different content then STFs. And STF can be done from time to time for fun. You grind this, or grind that - what's the difference?
For players with mental disability to play STFs Fleet Actions will be easier way to get dilithium. For fleet grinders it will be easier way to get dilithium.
no longer than 3 days ago, i was running to my computer to start playing STO.
You see, i am one of these long-time Gold Player who fell for it and even commited into buying a LTS 3 weeks ago.
So i was still kinda feeling a "high" with the game because the Veteran ship is great and all, and i was genuinely still having fun doing STFs ( both Space AND ground ). Know why?
I felt that i was ENTERTAINED.
What made the game entertaining and making me coming back for more?
- The STF random loot bags and the extra dilithium reward and extra reward for optional success. Some players have a love/hate relationship with random loot but myself as an avid gambler always felt compelled to come back for always 1 more STF because it could be the "jack pot" one.
This is also why i also fell so often for your Lock Boxes. I am just too curious for my own good and "need" to open them.
In a sense, i am the BEST customer you could ever have.
I bought LTS and i weekly bought Zen with real money to spend on keys and even sometimes to sell for Dilithium.
But THERE IS A LIMIT when i find out that you are charging me alot of extras but are not willing to give me any consideration.
I spend alot of money when i go to casino and i rarely win any. At least, they treat me good, they take care of me and my wallet, they give me free food, free hostel room and often free chips. They know i will come back at THEIR casino.
YOU CRYPTIC are acting like you do not give a damn about your customers fun. You are like vampires that only want to drain as much blood you can and give nothing in exchange.
You devise plans and plans within plans in order to give the bare minimum required to keep your customers but have ceased since long trying to reach beyond that plan.
You do not like your customers. You are seeing them like milk cows.
You do not respect your customers. You lie blatantly to them.
You deceive your customers. You change the house rules on a whim because you suddenly feel you could milk more money with new rules. You add 3 more zeros on the roulette and warn the players only after the bets are off.
So i logged in today. I took a look at my twelve characters like i do everyday.
I noticed the nice yellow box all of them add in their inventory.
I noticed Duty Officers upgrading prices are now higher.
I noticed after a STF that i got no Dilithium and no random blue/purple items...
I joined a Fleet Action. No one was talking, all was chaos. No teamplay. But we still get 1400 Dilithium for doing something INCREDIBLY STUPID AND BORING.
Then i realised that could not be true. That is a nonsense. Stupid Fleet action give more reward than any STF? This is WRONG.
The only "challenging" and "exciting" content as now barely any INSTANT reward but Fleet Actions now give Dilithium AND random gear?
Sorry... I can't and won't accept this. My wallet is now closed.
Now it's time you tell us the real reasons for these changes. Surely it wasn't customer satisfaction. Nor was it exploitation according to you since the average player only refined 3100 dilithum a day. The only reason I see is that you want to turn the Zen ---> dilithium conversion into another cash cow and this is just disgusting!
There are some changes that are understandable:
- The double-dilithium reward for B'tran for example. Even though I doubt many players will still do those boring missions for just 1440 dilithium.
- Or that dilithium costs for reassigning doffs were raised. But the new level is just insolent.
- And maybe that you have to play foundry missions that are longer than just 2min for the officer reports daily. But the fact that you now have to invest at least an hour for this mission just for 1440 dilithium and a few marks are way over the top.
What Stahl forgot to mention is that besides having to spend 4 hours just to get 8000 unrefined dilithium you also have to grind for Omega marks, Romulan marks and all the other stuff necessary to increase your reputation. While untill season 6 you were able to grind for Borg tech, dilithium AND tradable items at the same time. In other words: The value of your time invested has greatly decreased.
Stahl: "Our expectation is that the Season 7 Dilithium changes will have minimal impact once the changes are fully realized and players are understanding of how things have shifted. "
Eh. You don't need STFs for the Omega system. Just do other Borg content for Omega Marks.
Omega rep works just fine without even touching STFs. Which makes STFs all the more irrelevant.
Oh I/we know, but to do the Omega system you need the damn bnp's eventually and elite stf's are the only place to get them. No dilithium in stf's = not doing stf's
Just did SB24 against my better judgement with a few of my fleetmates, took literally 5 minutes for 1440 Dilithium!
Even more reason to stop doing stf's altogether....
Edit: Another thing that now strengthens my resolve against doing stf's anymore. If you stop doing stf's, you wont need the Omega rep anyways as it only applies to the borg. I am sure I wont miss the buffs that you get while levelling.
I'll stick to Romulan Rep me thinks
No , but the countdown to Capt. Gecko making a troll post about "forum rage" on Twitter has most certainly begun . :P

seems pretty obviously youv've been looking at them metrics for far too long and trying to see how much you can not just sqeeze but choke the playbase. this has put you so far out of touch with us. i'm worried for this game with changes like these to dilthium. stfs and doffs. will drive people away and stop people returning. i see the 15th of nov being a bad day in sto. as i think thats the day tor is f2p more people are going to jump ship now.
So i logged in today. I took a look at my twelve characters like i do everyday.

Grinding is boring. I want to feel like a Fed/Klingon spacetraveller. An not like a chinese fabric worker -.-
Starbase 24 is nice, fast and chaotic. But nothing I want to do for 5times in a row just to gain my 8000 Dill.
And Cryptic: F**K Y** over your information politic. Really... I'm glad that I didn't spend any money on the lifetime sale. And I won't spend any money on the vesta until I see what your are doing with Season 8.

be careful what you wish for - if they drive players who were paying off; you won't have this game to play anymore - they'll put it in maintenance mode like their currently failing big time 'Champions Online' MMO.
^^^
And why is that one failing? A lot of unkept promises and outright lies from the Dev team to the playerbase - much like what DStahl did to the STO playerbase whe n you compare what was stated in his latest State of the Game Blog - compared to Season 7 Blog #17 - where he not only contradicts himself multiple times; but also shows he outright LIED in the State of the Game blog.
I've played this game since the second week of closed beta way back in October of 2009 - but after this latest round of 'Daniel Stahl said stuff' which yet again was misleading and untrue' - I'm finally so sick of Cryptic's utter incompetence (especially in what they call their QA dept.) - I'm at the point I think I finally want to move on as well.
I really wish I didn't have to wait 3 years for Chris Robert's 'Star Citizen' at this point.

Oh, we were not meeting our daily dil cap, so you in your inifinte wisdom (or great lack thereof) decide to remove dil rewards from STF's, wich is probably some of the most played content in the game, and move the dil to crappy fleet actions...
Yeah, that makes sense... NOT!!
You do not remove various sources of income, and expect us to play something the majrity does not even like...
these changes dont give the players more chances to get dili - it makes it worse to get it
cryptic want us only to buy zen and then to convert it
time to move on
lol, old Gecko will not be able to resist his trolling ways. He is the Master Troll after all
No ... "master troll" he is not .
Trolling get's more sophisticated with age .
With greater age you learn how / where and when to troll .
Al's not there yet ... despite hitting middle age .
i just can't hide, how much i'm disappointed with the dilithium removal from STF's. now i simply don't feel the need to do them. only 1 or 2 at a time, just to get the omega marks to start projects and that's it... i'ts simply don't worth the time anymore. all the fun has been taken away. whit the retro borg set + MACO shield synergy nerfed, space STF's become harder to me (and i think not just to me), and the reward also decreased at the same time. i just feel the lack of satisfaction at the end of an STF... no dil, no tech/salvage (more dil), and no random blue/purple item, only sh*tty omega mark. i know, that marks and neural proc's can be converted instead, but the conversion ratio is pathetic compared to the base amount of stf dil reward in the old system (480/1100). and it's just not right.
so thanks Cryptic/PWE for totally TRIBBLE the very best part of the game, congrats!
and what's really makes me angry, is when you say, that "players are refining far less Dilithium than we expect them to", and this way you just "want to increase the amount they are refining". how? by taking away the main dil source from the most of the players? forcing them to do crappy, chaotic, mindless DPS-oriented events like starbase 24? be honest, go in front of your playerbase, and say to their faces, you want them to buy more zen and exchange it to dil. don't lie to us! or if you REALLY want us to refine more dil, than make more dil sources to us (start by giving back the STF's), not just sinks. but if you just want us to open our wallets, than say that, and leave this nonsense, because we aren't stupid, and we become angry if you think of us that way.
Defiant
RnD and upgrade needs less RNG. Less lottery. Something has to change.
You don't "convert" Zen to Dilithium. You trade it with other players. Cryptic does not earn anything from that.
Could everyone just lean back and think for a moment... do you play the game for the Dilithium? No, you play it for entertainment. Dilithium is just a tiny part of the game.
Besides, to me it looks as if it will actually be easier to get Dilithium by doing the standard fleet actions.
The rewards are the compensation for the parts of something I don't find entertaining.
Remove them and I'll do what I do find entertaining.
For some people, that's play another game. For me, it's doing other things in this game... for now... as long as I can find things I do get entertainment from.
Oh I/we know, but to do the Omega system you need the damn bnp's eventually and elite stf's are the only place to get them. No dilithium in stf's = not doing stf's

You only need the BNPs for Mk XII gear. You could still do Omega rep for the powers.

Prior to Season 7, the average amount of Dilithium refined by an active level 50 player was 3100 per session or 13,250 per week.
Yeah right.
Note to self:
Don't worry Al , I'm sure Priority One and PodcastUGC will ride to your rescue !
After all ... , Terylynn should be so pleased ... -- you've made these wonderful changes for players just like her (according to your previous P1 interview) .
lol, old Gecko will not be able to resist his trolling ways. He is the Master Troll after all
Grinding is boring.
PWE ARC Drone says: "Your STO forum community as you have known it is ended...Display names are irrelevant...Any further sense of community is irrelevant...Resistance is futile...You will be assimilated..."
To quote the Angry Video Game Nerd: "What the F... were they thinking ???"
I am speechless.
WTG, WTG.....
cryptic want us only to buy zen and then to convert it
time to move on
No ... "master troll" he is not .
Trolling get's more sophisticated with age .
With greater age you learn how / where and when to troll .
Al's not there yet ... despite hitting middle age .
so thanks Cryptic/PWE for totally TRIBBLE the very best part of the game, congrats!
and what's really makes me angry, is when you say, that "players are refining far less Dilithium than we expect them to", and this way you just "want to increase the amount they are refining". how? by taking away the main dil source from the most of the players? forcing them to do crappy, chaotic, mindless DPS-oriented events like starbase 24? be honest, go in front of your playerbase, and say to their faces, you want them to buy more zen and exchange it to dil. don't lie to us! or if you REALLY want us to refine more dil, than make more dil sources to us (start by giving back the STF's), not just sinks. but if you just want us to open our wallets, than say that, and leave this nonsense, because we aren't stupid, and we become angry if you think of us that way.
RnD and upgrade needs less RNG. Less lottery. Something has to change.
in my point of view, to be honest and straight forward about been greedy is still better than to be liar about it.

The rewards are the compensation for the parts of something I don't find entertaining.
Remove them and I'll do what I do find entertaining.
For some people, that's play another game. For me, it's doing other things in this game... for now... as long as I can find things I do get entertainment from.
You only need the BNPs for Mk XII gear. You could still do Omega rep for the powers.
