Appearance Request: Accolades (Ribbons)

I think this would be a pretty neat request. The option to display your accolades on your character just as military personnel do on their formal wear.

so instead of having a nickname to display on your character, you can also show off what else you have earned in combat.

What do you guys think?

I'd like to see cosmetic items like accolades, ribbons and medals that I can pin to a toon's chest in game.

It would be neat but not really canon UNLESS on a dress uniform ... if there is such a thing in game?

I think it wouldn't matter. in my fleet we have a uniform code that even makes the sashes seem like an high tier officer rank so i think the ribbons would be a boost to some

As cool as the idea may sound, accolade ribbons on uniforms are more suited to contemporary armed forces rather than Starfleet or KDF - the only example of award ribbons on uniforms in Trek is on Fleet Admiral Bill's TWoK uniform, but even then most actors felt the TWoK uniforms were too militaristic for Starfleet.

I'd much much rather have a medal case in my ship's ready room.

If I pinned every accolade I had on my uniform, you wouldn't see the uniform. I like the idea of wall hangings.

I could make myself an oversized poncho with all the accolades I have.

Diplomacy prize uniform, ToS Dress Uni, TNG Dress uni. 3 "Dress" uniforms right off the top of my head, though one's an unlock and the other two are C-store, and I vaguely think the S1 TNG dress uni is in the C-store too...

Though, of all these uniforms, only the ToS one has any kind of "medals", and even then, "canon" sets of medals (Kirk's, Spock's, McCoy's) are provided as "badges"...

Then there's the case of ribbons on the TWoK unis...

Personally, I'd like to see ribbons and/or an "awards case", but I'd go about it a little differently...

Accolade wise, you'd only get ribbons for certain achievements - Maxing out a commendation tier (11 ribbons), getting 80%+ of the accolades from a story-arc (allows one or two misses of "harder" accolades, and only count player-class, so you don't need to run, say, "Of Bajor" with a trinity team just for the ribbon) - so 6 more ribbons here, and a small handful of medals from "end game" content, so say a "star" from the STFs (choice of, say, the #-many STFs ran, MACO/KHG set completion, Omega set completion), siege/incursion breaker, one related to the new Rommie content, and a PvP medal. At most, this is 18 ribbons and 4 "medals", which wouldn't clutter a uniform but can show massive amounts of dedication to the game...
Detecting big-time "anti-old-school" bias here. NX? Lobi. TOS/TMP Connie? Super-promotion-box. (aka the two hardest ways to get ships) Excelsior & all 3 TNG "big hero" ships? C-Store. Please Equalize...

I think the best way to work this issue is to have an Armory page similar to games like WoW, so people can check out other players and their achivements.

Also you can restrict the ribbons and medals to only dress uniforms and put restriction on X amount of ribbons, medals displayed.

Playing around with uniforms and emblems for our new fleet, i'm all for having the possibility to pin some accolades' ribbons or medals on it, maybe just 3 from the many you have won, below the combadge or on the other side of the chest.

That would definitively be cool... along with an emblem creator allowing us to upload our own design.

Being able to customize our ship's interiors and exteriors more, like the hideouts in Champions, would also be extremely exciting.

Crossing my fingers for this to happen soonish ;)

    Wait?

    We have Uniforms?

    WHERE?

(Uniform, meaning Alike or equal, from latin... Hence there are no Uniforms in STO).
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

    Fair enough.

From my point of view, asking the Devs to allow players to have little icons placed on the charaters suit is neat. But with all the noise about everything else in the game, then I would prefer the request be specialized to the character suit that best represents the Dress Uniform (the character suit NOT worn in a battle environment).

If, in the end, there is no such thing (and some players probably do not care either way), then the accolade medals is still just neat. I'd rather the Devs focus on ... something less cosmetic and more functional.

Don't get me wrong, if they actually put it in place, then I'll go for it.

there also can be a place to place the ribbons on your sash, you can add them to a formal uniform structure or simply disable the ribbons when combat is enabled in some way or in a place where there is literally no combat (ie. ESD)

I don't recall ever seeing decorated uniforms in Star Trek, but my memory is a bit shakey on that, on a dress uniform maybe, but the daily casuals, never.
Maybe an accolades tab on player info would be OK, but the additional graphics of having a rainbow cabbage patch on uniforms themselves I just don't see happening.

This would be perfectly consistent with US uniform policy.

    I like Data's Medal's Case from TNG:

This sort of thing has been brought up in the past, and I've always liked the idea. The closest we got was when they added our Accolade Score to our character's info box.

I would love some way to display my accolades. I mean sure, some of them were just grindfests (score One Zillion Points of Energy Flavor X Damage) that involved no skill, but some (M.A.C.O. Team Commander) required teamwork, significant effort, and none-too-little apptitude. These latter I'm particularlly proud of.

If on-character representation is perhaps too difficult, I would they would at least bring back the character web page that used to exist on the STO site. On the pre-PW assimilation STO web page there existed User Pages. Each user could be looked up via their @handle and you could then view their characters. It was a little buggy, but it did show off that characters Accolades (complete with little "medals" for each).

Hopefully the STO Gateway will have a similar feature.

I feel ya, I'm have an Accolade Score over 14k on my Main. If his were medals/ribbons being worn, I'd epect he wouldn't be able to stand upright without some anti-gravity assistance. :D

Oh, very neat! Yes, having something like this in my ship (in the Captain's Quarters, for instance) would be great. Increasing the number of displayed trophies (As we only have 7 between the mess hall and ready room) would be nice, too.

You can find/contact me in game as @PatricianVetinari. Playing STO since Feb 2010.

It would be awesome to have a medal case in our quarters. There's pretty much no reason to go in there right now.

I like the idea too or a display case similar to data's i rarely ever visit my bridge and perhaps adding some more personal stuff about the character would make it more interactive.
