Just thought I'd hop in here for a second.

I am quite gratified to see this get off the ground. When I started my little Tournament thing I was hoping to encourage PvP participation, so it's nice to see someone else doing something toward that end as well.

One thing I should mention is that we'd want to get at least some of the better if not best PvPers still around to act as guest lecturers, because there's nothing quite like learning from the best. Guys like Thales, Yoda, Kedric, and MT are really good at what they do, and if we could get them to show up even every once in a while that'll be a huge boost to this "Academy".

I'd volunteer as an instructor, although I'm nowhere near an expert. Ideally instructors should be on the level of Thales and company, but the problem with players like them is that they are typically too busy to do a regular thing like this so the most they'll be is guest lecturers.

I'm fairly competent in most areas; I can hold my own as an escort, I've had some experience running science ships (although at the moment it's my weakest point), and I started out as a healer so I know a thing or two about it.

I also agree that the boot camp should have its own site, that we can link to, in order to keep everything clean. I'm a programmer by trade so I'd be happy to draft up a site but unfortunately I'm also a dirt-poor programmer who can't afford to maintain web-space. Maybe I'll make it a Google Site, at least they're free...

I could host a amazon instance for it. I can give you my e-mail and we can collaborate if you would like. I too, am a programmer by trade. Not a huge fan of web design but I'm pretty good with javascript/php and the likes.

The website is up and ready for your first round of UAT :)

Don't want to post the link here yet - drop me a mail ok. I mailed your forum email with the link.

What do you think about the idea posted just below yours, drkfrontiers? Would it very difficult to use the site you are building as a centralized hub for PvP resources? So that people wouldn't have to transfer large amounts of text to the forum, perhaps we could just have a page of links or a place where people could upload docs. I am not sure about the mechanics required for such a site.

I will send you an in-game email about the logo and video. Again, thanks for your lending the PvP community your talents?

When you see it you will be astounded at the functionality it caters for :)

    @drkfrontiers is correct.

I would like to be a teacher but for Spanish speakers and maybe I can if is needed be a substitute for other english teacher. I can handle english with no problems whatsoever.

If interested you can see my spanish translated guides for pvp here and here.

I'm the main pvp teacher in my spanish fleet and I have Eng, Sci and Tact for Space and Ground.

I'm excited to be a part of this project and am very much looking forward to working with all of you :)

    PvP FTW.

    Cheers,

The only issue I see is simple; I believed pvp could mount some kind of comeback with F2P. Moreover I wished the day would come when the glory of pvp returned in full force. However this is not the case what we see is a lot of untested mechanics and pushed out development that affect the balances of pvp. Now I don?t know if its unqualified developers or they just are not giving the time to properly balances for pvp new or updated mechanics. I believe those in the mainstream of the development team don?t have a priority to improve pvp. Their focus seems to be more on pushing as much content and z-store merchandise out as possible, instead of focusing on the quality of their product. If it isn?t TBR one month it?s scramble or something else. Then when you get a que pop there are 8 out of 10 people in the arena using it. It?s a hard thing to enjoy pvp in this game because there is no real motive for the developer to improve the way it?s played. Trust me it is not your marketing or advertisement of pvp that is failing the community it?s cryptic?s failure to properly execute pvp content and decade a team to that. Failure to balance before release or to quickly respond to issue after release.
    Some word of advice
    Hirer a pvp team! Already

    To the op on the matter;
I have been here a long time now seen many others who wanted to help fix the pvp in this game, but us as a community can?t fix it cryptic has to show the community their serious and have to do this in a meaningful way. No one can say that cryptic as done any meaningful reform to pvp sense the games release?.they haven?t even dropped a map. Sorry I am referring to space pvp as ground pvper are even less then us. The community doesn?t need a new form of tournament, a training program, or to get organized oddly we have had all of these in the place to no avail. What we need is a reason to be exited again something big enough to draw in new and old pvpers. Unfortunately no matter how many times a community actives tries to stir thing up it will fail because cryptic is not behind it. Yes, Brandon supports your idea?s hell I support your idea but it?s not going to bring back or draw in new players because the simple fact that cryptic has no real development plans for pvp and it is transparent.

    Other issues include ....

    1. Seasoned players forming groups and spamming all the broken **** against pugs.
    2. Seasoned players justifying their use because XX counters but the use of XX negates viable survivability on ship XX.
    3. Outright chain of all broken mechanics.

I guess that's with any game. So while PWE and their money making scheme of PVE tested items is a issue, the blame comes back to the players that exploit these mechanics knowing it's borked. But those idiots will always do that, and when you do it back to them they will QQ. So I guess that's win.

That said, Brandon, talk to the devs about making teams get more hits in the queues. It's silly when I have a group of 4 or 5 and see/know another group of 4-5 is in the queues but the pugs get them. It would seem more practical that pugs get pugs and teams get teams.

    In reply to
    1. Sometimes seasoned vets are justified to implement said tactics say against a 5 man pug with 4 TBRs. Or AMS, some KDF siphon teams, or whatever a public que may produce. Yes this may not and in most cases is not needed to win anyhow.
    2. I could discusses a 4 man oddy team and argue some consoles are justified, but I leave that open for interpretation.
    3. As I argued earlier if the mechanic were properly tested or they even cared how they would affect pvp before going live your 3rd issue would be solved for the most part.
It would be nice to have a community govern itself, but the unfortunately the fact is there is no way to hold a player accountable for a violation of any community rules. Even if there were there is no way anyone can enforce illegitimate rules upon the community? So if cryptic had even a small team for pvp they could organize a large group of testers from the player base. These testers would have to be public and open to the entire community and all feedback would have to be looked into prior to release of a patch. Only problem I see with this approach is all the feedback will amount to nothing. I say this because I have seen over the past few years.

Thanks for your perspective on the matter. You have obviously been with the game a while and have seen both the highs and the lows. Nevertheless, I remain willing to more forward with Boot Camp, in spite of the challenges. This morning I was chatting with one of the regular and highly respected PvP forum posters and s/he told me that s/he had not seen this much energy around a PvP project before. I think this is a positive sign. A number of podcasts have indicated their willingness to help in this matter. In addition, Cryptic/PWE has given us its support and we know that the devs are working on a PvP reputation system. Changes, it seems, are on the way. And the project has support on a number of fronts.

If Boot Camp is able, over the next 6 months, to bring in 50, 75, 100, even 200 regular, new PvP players that would certainly have an impact on the game and would be a great success. I hope for more but am also a realist.

For my part, and for the sake of a more vibrant PvP, I am willing to take the risk before writing the obituary.

lol I'm more shooting for 5
I have to agree, Brandon being there is great, but unless Cryptic puts a PvP Dev team together, and those Devs learn how to play in a team, nothing we do can compensate for the neglect, and poor QnA we are confronted with patch after patch after patch after patch....

As it stands, its PvD, so lets go and fill the ranks with more players. So much untapped potential for STO pvp, such a long time of cryptic doing squat about it

I agree, Havam, not with your hopes (5!), but with your general assessment of the PvP situation. What we are trying to do here is not a panacea but it is a single, grass-roots way that we as players can help raise the level of PvP. As I said before, I have submitted a semi-formal proposal that not only Brandon has seen but also the devs whose work overlaps with PvP related matters. Our voice is being heard. How the devs decide to act on our demand for better PvP is out of our hands.

We cannot change the game on the programming side, but we can show players the ins and outs of PvP, increase the PvP player base, and thereby generate "demand." Let's hope that the new PvP reputation system will also help to bring in some fresh players.

I'll make a bet with you, Havam. I bet for the first event alone (late December/early January), we will get at least 20 players (not counting the some 15 coaches who have volunteered) to participate. If I win, you will give me 5 million ecs. If fewer than 20 show up, I will give you 5 million. Deal? :)

THIS is AWESOME! I would be happy to assist this project in any way possible. I have been a corporate trainer for two different companies so that my be the best way I can help is contributing to tutorial efforts. I am also a veteran of PWI territory wars and BSGO who turned to Star Trek because I prefer Sci Fi to Fantasy (PWI) and I absolutely LOVE the Space Mechanics of STO.

My dream for STO would be for it to somehow have the possibly of the dynamic PvP that takes place in BSGO but with the extremely superior everything else that STO has.

    Count me in!
