they need to get rid of the increasing respawn timers.. not add more..
as it is now anyone that dies more then 2 or 3 times in a stf becomes a liability.
you cant kick them out. so they become dead weight.

And that can sometimes happen to good players because of the super-crits. I've been super-critted three times in a row playing KASE... and not by the gate either. The cubes are doing it now too.
why not just go hardcore and if and when you Blow up your character is dead unless you abandon ship. then you have to start over. Now would that be realistic enough for ya?
Oh and loss all zen purchases in the process for hat toon.
Everyone makes mistakes,
it's how we correct them that shows our true character....
One thing I thought would be nice (To counter act the long respawn timer for deaths as a penalty) was maybe a drifting and team recover feature. Where instead of just blowing up, your ship is disabled and drifting while giving the option to your teammates to repair you. Almost kind of like ground gameplay where your team mates can rez you instead of respawning. Of course they may never do this, but it's something I personally think would make more sense.

This is another example of something you can already do if you want to. If you get blown up in a fight, you are perfectly free to sit there and pretend you are "drifting" as long as you want, or until you can convince a friend to fly over to you beflore you click the respawn button. My point being, if you want some kind of penalty imposed upon yourself...do it yourself. But dont ask that it be done to everyone just because you want it.

Well my suggestion isn't so you can pretend to be drifting, but to actually repair or rez team mates who have died a lot so they don't have to wait 30+ seconds to respawn. lol
If I blast your weapons to smitheriens, how do you get them back? It would be nice to have a like permanant injury, which can only be healed by visting ESD etc? What do you think? And what about if I "burn" your hull it stays burnt until you get to ESD etc? Your comments please
Hopefully I'll come back from my break; this break is fun; I play intellectual games.
The penalty for ship destruction is so mild
That it is virtually ignored , the player repairs the
Minor damage and charges headlong right back into
The unrealistic position he just left, a lot of the time
Just getting destroyed again.
I propose the following
Upon ship destruction
Shields stay at 25% gradually returning to normal I'n 5 minutes
Provided crew at 100% a graduated fraction of that amount if they
Are out of action as well
Hull same formula
Upon respawning
Crit component needed. 1 to 3
Major component needed. 1 to 5
Minor component needed. 1to 12
It would drastically change the way people play
The way they build there ships
The ships they choose to use
The same formula could be used on characters on
The ground
This could be a Elite only setting too but it should met
The player using it a much greater reward
I think the system currently I'n use is way too easy it's
Almost no penalty at all and encourages zerging
I think it would add a tremendously amount of replayability
To missions if the reward for using it was just to the
Extra risk
Good idea, please apply it just to yourself for a few weeks (via roleplaying maybe?) and then report back to us how 'fun' you found the whole experience. I look forward to your report.

Are you talking visible damage or debuff style damage? At higher levels, getting your ship destroyed applies debuffs representing permanent damage that requires putting into space dock. Of course, you can also get parts to carry with you that allow you to heal these debuffs.

Visuals-wise Bridge Commander (I think it was that game) had a different damage system where if you fired at a bare hull it left real hull damage. Enough hits at that point and it would tear through the hull or cut through a pylon leaving a nacelle to float away. With half a nacelle you'd have to limp away to a starbase to get it fixed.
Since we already have injuries that occur in Elite STFs how about making it so if Sickbay is damaged, for example, then that area on the ship would show a whole in the hull where sickbay used to be or even just something venting.
This is quite an unrealistic suggestion. I am not sure how many times have you played STFs but even the best of the best players die from critical hit, and if they are unlucky then it may happen to them repeatedly in the same STF.
However, the community would be grateful to you if you volunteer yourself for an experiment for the findings. For example, deleting some stuff from your inventory as a punishment every time you die in space
Grinding for MkIV epic gear?
Ain't Nobody Got Time for That
Kirk got the Enterprise destroyed and was busted down from Admiral back to Captain.
Perhaps that's what should happen, you get busted down and have to fly a captain ship for a while...
Picard wrecked the Stargazer and several other ships, and yet he was given command of the Flagship of the federation, then he wrecked that one too, and ... was given command of the NEW flagship of the federation... Witch he then wrecked too (granted it was repaired).
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
I dont get it..If that is the experience you want playing a game, go play EvE..This game will never be what you want. I dont understand why people play a game, that obviously isnt for them.
Furthermore..i dont understand why people think that they can go change a game mechanic like that so far into a game..People need to understand that this game isnt in BETA anymore, yet everyone treats it like it is..
well first of all I did not describe an experience like EVE. I suggested your ship NOT blowing up. Also, the injuries we get from elite diffuculty already debuff ships stats, so no thats not a game changing mechanic. Adding a graphic to the ships to make it visable? last I checked some missing hull plating is already in game.
as for the ships not blowing up, I can see how that might be thought of as changing a mechanic. how ever, why not change that respawn button to a oh...repair button? then your ship is repaired, and you continue on your way. if it really is something that would completely change the game, then either way ill take the respawn timer.
I was not trying to make it harder, I was trying to make it maybe a little more fun. right now ill admit i do not play on elite, why? because all it is, is anoying. ok so I got a dubuff? big deal, 2 clicks its fixed.
playing on elite for a challenge, I can see that, but are the ships injuries really that big a deal? I mean come on, your playing on elite for a challenge I thought, now that someone suggests making injuries matter all you do is tell them to play EVE. remember, im saying make them matter, not make them worse.

This would make a lot of people happy, being able to help a disabled ship, rather than have them wait 30 sec, or more, to respawn?
lets say you get 1 shot three times in a row on an STF, would you rather wait all that time to respawn? or have the option for a team mate to rez you, like on ground.

Kirk was busted to Captain because he STOLE the Enterprise and disobeyed orders.
Picard never wrecked anything, it was when he handed the 'keys' to Riker that the sh*t hit the fan.

Oh my God, I'd love to see the whining this would produce by the PvPers.

And Riker wasn't aboard the Stargazer... that one is all Jean Luc's fault.
Why come up with a flawed plan then.
