Dear Mr Stahl - Let`s have a Dev-on-Line event day!

levi3levi3 Member Posts: 1,663 Arc User
I am sure that everyone is pretty busy making season 7 but may I suggest a special event for the season 7 launch:

A day when everyone at Cryptic from you on down plays the game with the players for the day.

So you could name your Fleet`Team Cryptic` and every dev and employee would have there name in pink or some flashy color that makes you stand out - same for a uniform.

And just don`t hang around ESD or DS9 - actually get in on the Q`s with the players and play on their teams. It does not matter if you kick butt or have your butt kicked - just being out there should be a real treat for the players.

I am sure that this kind of all-day Dev-on-Line event would be quite a moral booster for the player base.

Any comments you have would be appreciated.

Thanks

Ya know they would have to turn off all in-game chatting including mail during this event.

Other than that, OP's suggestion is a good idea, IMHO.

Why would that be - you would not like to see them in game?

The devs playing on holodeck? Well...I would enjoy crushing their little dev egos in ground PvP :D

No I think they should avoid any pvp - but of course that would be up to them.

Fat chance of this, maybe 2 of them actually play STO...if any of them played, I believe we'd see much more progress of our wish list items.

And before you jump in, "having a non-dev account" is different from "actually playing the game".
Delta Rising is the best expansion ever and the players love it! No, seriously! ...Why are you laughing so hard? :(

I agree with you here. I remember reading an article about the failed MMO Auto Assault that said all the Devs at the company did not like playing the game. I am kinda wondering if that is going on with STO.

Confidence in ones own skill, limited as it may be,isn't the same as 'ego'....win or lose,I don't care as long as the match was fun.

I too play regularly, be it just DOFFing, the occasional STF, or playing the exchange, swelling up my fortune of ECs.

In fact, I'm online at this very moment, lurking in a variety of channels.

Great to hear but I am hoping that Mr Stahl can make it a Formal Day long event! You will get paid for too! (I hope!!)

The point is for players to `see` the team out in the game - so you have to be noticed by some identifiers

I know it will be a pain for you guys because of the massive attention you will draw but it would just be for 1 day - i am sure you guys could handle it:D

I keep hearing (in game and here on the forums, even in a podcast recently) that most of the dev team don't actually play the game.

Where is the source on this tidbit?

I see two at least in this thread saying they play regularly, and would assume this holds true for most of them in general.

    Is there something I missed?

Edit: On topic, I would love to see some devstypepeople flying around in game from time to time, helps foster a sense of community I believe.

Devs used to do this in earlier seasons. They would also do things like spawn a random Borg assault at Wolf 359 and other such activities.

It added spice to the game when done infrequently and randomly.

Then you are doing it wrong. Orions can be very good at the ground STFs. Use your charms on the right borg does wonders...

I am talking about a publizied event where even Mr Stahl joins in the game for the day - so pretty much everyone they can spare.

It mat cause a little chaos in some places but overall it would be a gret way to kick off Season 7

A couple of the devs from the art dept. used to do these "dancing with the devs' events on ESD,but that was before season 2.Back then there was a whole different atmosphere at Cryptic and the players were more optimistic about the game. The player/dev relationship has definitely changed since then, and not for the better.

To be honest, with all the bitterness caused by unpopular changes to the game,I'm not sure if the player/dev interaction in game will be all that friendly. There is a lot of discontent amongst players and resentment towards the devs. For me it would be very hard not to act angry at Stahl if I were to meet him,in real life or in game,I lost all respect for this man due to his past actions and comments.

While I'm sure that more personel interaction between players and devs can help restore relations, the question is: are the devs willing to do what needs to be done to accomplish that, and is the STO community prepared to look beyond past mistakes?

Cryptic used to think that a good player/dev relation made for better games....

Errr, where have you been during S5?

I was on ESD one day, and suddenly, Tumerboy pops in. After some chatting, I make my way into his instance, go to Club 47. Some people are asking questions, but I'm jokingly challenging him to a duel because "you killed me with Earl Grey shrimp", which was a direct and very intentional reference to his post "Shrimp, Earl Grey, hot." in a thread congratulating him for being so responsive or something.

I am afraid i have to agree with you. Unless they are turning their buisness model about 180? their STO day won't be very friendly IMO.
I don't want to list what went wrong, but personall i have been dissapointed over and over again since February 2010. I have lost any enthusiasm or anticipation for their work or goals.

Even if that day would go peacefully i don't get the point of it anyway.

No matter what They do, They are ALWAYS going to pizz SOMEBODY off...

Would you really be rude to DStahl in person, if you happened across him in the real world... ?

    ...over a game...??

Perhaps a reevaluation of ones priorities is due... ???

I realize that on the internetz, being 'rude' has apparently become the norm, but are we so involved in our own self-worth and self-importance that we'd allow it to carry across to our 'real-world' lives...?

I'm not all that crazy about many of the things that have happened with the game from its inception either...,

...but I most certainly will not let my frustrations and disappointment over a video game dictate how I behave toward another person in my daily life.

Especially someone whom I've never had the pleasure to have actually met.

Perhaps I'm too 'old world' in that regard, but God helps us if that truly does become the 'Norm'.

It happens a lot during social events BranFlakes plans from time to time. Sometimes there's no party but just a Q&A session and some whinning about minor features of the game, but it's not always te case. Yesterday we had a dev during the BST time tribble event and it's been very civil and polite. There was no dev bashing, just a few questions some other players answered.

So I think such an event would be possible, but I don't think the devs should make a "social" event if they don't want to get involved in what you described. A day where they play with the rest of us or just pop undines or borg drones on EDS and qonos might be enough. If they want they can try to socialize but it's at the risk of their mental sanity.
