To be honest, I think it'd have been much better if they just went with the mirror ships, and made something else the main lockbox ship. I could have swallowed a Reman bird of prey much more easily, and I was kind of hoping for it this time around.
The Tholians are aggressive, territorial, and are xenophobic, which is something mentioned in the first line of their memory alpha article. I find it really, really unlikely they'd chose to serve on a Federation or Klingon vessel as a doff, and I doubt the biological differences would make it worth rebuilding the interior to suit humanoids even if Tholian vessels could be obtained.
I'm really curious as to what the "cover story" for this ship will be. The Cardassian one was a little shakey, the Ferengi and Jem'Hadar ones seemed solid enough. A Reman one would most likely have been far easier to come up with than anything relating to the Tholians. I mean what, did they leave the keys in the ignition? Are they friendly mirror Tholians who totally aren't douches like their prime universe and Ent: "In a Mirror Darkly" counterparts? It was Q wasn't it?
I'm not a trek nerd (not a good one anyway), so I know jack and squat about tholian canon.
But from what I've seen In game on the tholian 5 man instances, their ships would be so alien to us, and vice versa that you could not simply Refit them.
You would have to completely dismantle the ship, and rebuild it to be useful for humanoids.
And that's more expensive and time consuming, than simply reverse engineering tech from the highlight reel, and going forward from there (such as the Tholian web etc). There's no reason either starfleet or the KDF would rebuild the ship, when they could simply reverse engineer the tech.
And yes they could reverse engineer it. If you have the ability to dismantle a ship and rebuild it completely to the point it's only tholian in aesthetics, weapon and propulsion, you could much more easily reverse engineer whatever tech in it, is so desirable.
They have no Hands. Infact as far as I can tell, everything they do, they do internally. How do they operate controls? Maybe telepathically, or through phereomone ques. Which means, their displays probably make little to 0 sense to us, if there even any displays that we could perceive. The entire operating system the computers in the tholian ship would change. plus do we know if they use electric power? Maybe it's all chemical driven, on the internals of the ship, which means that's yet something else we would have to change.
Oh lets not forget Storage, sleeping quarters, etc. Tholians do not wear clothes or armor. So you'd have to find space for that too.
Ever take your space suit off in the tholian five man? Notice you you almost instantly fry? You couldn't simply "convert" that environmental system into something that would work for us. You would have to completely gut it as well, along with any climate related controls.
Then their's the issue of tholians frankly not giving a damn about the Z axis. So the interior would now also have to be completely gut and rebuilt.
The Ferengi excuse is also equally weak, as it is again far cheaper to sell the tech rather than spend an exhorbitant amount of funds to Build a Replica Tholian Ship, out of an existing one.
And we know Ferengi, they do it all on the cheap cheap cheap.
It's just more Stupid done by a Stupid Dev, and marketing team.
Thought the same thing. I have been cracking up at this thread.
Most of us just don't care enough anymore. That or we're trying teh rper logiczzz. Maybe RPness will get through to them where our Opness has not before.
this thing is scary. not only does it have 2 LTC stations, 1 of them is universal! this is bug ship levels of better then the alternatives, no other science vessel maters as of now. depending on how you set it up, most cruisers no longer mater too. its turn rate is beter then any fed cruiser for 1.
you could have 2 TLC eng stations for nearly max cruiser healing, plus the COM sci. the ENS tactical is all you need for TT1. best healer in game bar none.
a tactical captain with a LTC tac in the universal would be twice as dangerous as all those tac/recon sci ships are now.
and if you made the universal LTC science, you would basically have an intrepid with a LTC eng.
sure, it has no LT level stations, but thats because 1 was bumped to LTC status AND made universal, and the other was just reduced to ensign. that is NOT an even trade at all.
if i were to make this more balanced, i would make the LTC eng just an LT station, and make the tac ENS a LT station. it would be kinda like a science ship version of the free/fleet odyssey
Recluse Carrier
COM uni LTC sci LTC eng ENS sci ENS tac
universal. commander. holy. TRIBBLE. its allready got decent sci and eng covered with a LTC station each, if you were extra crazy you could give it a comander tac for the lulz, i know at least i person who would jump at that.
all something like this needs is TT1 from tactical, and its got that. with a COM eng and the LTC sci its healing will he huge, even better then the sci ship, as long as people stayed close to it. shooting through a COM, LTC eng and LTC sci will prove difficult, thats gives you access to every heal in the game. i don't know why you would want a COM sci in this, most of those high end sci skills need you being maneuverable, a COM eng is the obvious choice.
this also makes the other 2 big fat carriers irreverent, this is heads and shoulders better. the cost will likely be so prohibitive that it would be ludicrous to try gathering that much lobi. im sure when the store price is posted people will figure it out to be ~$300+ if you get mostly only 4 lobi per box or something.

You think that your beta test was bad?
Think about this: American Football has been in open beta for 144 years. ~Kotaku
One would expect that they would make some nice OP ships for the lockboxes. . .my issue is when they make them TOO OP, to the point where they leave all other ships in their class in the effing dust. . .sorta like the Jem'Hadar did with all other escorts, performance-wise.
My PvP toon is Krov, of The House of Snoo. Beware of my Hegh'ta of doom.
So...the idiotic ORB has the setup that would be great for nebula ? Disgusting.

The Recluse Carrier can equip dual cannons but not the Orb weaver
I was able to get both on the exchange plus a smokin deal on a Galor and was planning to give all 3 to one of my alts so I can use both Tholian consoles (on the Recluse) with the sprial wave disruptors.
So which of my Captain's should these go to? TAC, ENG or SCI? (KDF or FED)?
Humor my concern, why are new ships being released when basic functions of the game are still not working correctly after the premature season 6 release?? These include daily missions, the exchange and pvp maps... all key elements in the DAY to DAY game play. The patch did not correctly fix any of these yet new ships are coming out??

the thoilian ships? its hard to tell being so new and different. the carrier should be pared with an engineering captain and use the universal for engineering.
the orb ship with 2 LTC eng would be the best healer in game, ideally with an engineering captain. focusing on it being more science heavy and it should have a sci cpatain, or if you wanted to deal a ton of bleed damage with things like repulsers and feedback pulse, a tac captain.

Because these things were already made and scheduled for release before these bugs were overly apparent and alot of bug fixing takes time and finding out exactly how to fix it (barring simple mistakes code wise).
I mean do you seriously think they went "hooray season6!" and then a week or two later go "hooray tholian boxes!" and they just decided that that day they would actually do something and did that and the rest of the day they just sit around reading reddit or something (though truthfully they probably do that some too).

Wrong, providing excellent service to the paying customer, ensures a happy customer that is willing to spend even more for a well executed and presented finished product. You would not buy a brad new car for the full price if the paint was scratched, no engine and it was missing a wheel now would you?? o.O

Considering there is a test server that had several of these bugs on it for approximately 1 month and considering that the release of season 6 was rushed into place to the extent that the STO servers caught on fire and both game and site were shut down for over 8 hours, yes. The executives are after the dollar and a rash choice to publish an unfinished product results in loss of quality (bugs).
Trouble shooting is part of the profession of the coders and developers. It is their job to find and fix these bugs. At your work, if you did not do your job and customers were being turned off your product by sloppy work, what happens?? Fired.
Can we not lose perspective here? This is a game, therefore it is fiction, therefore it is flexible. "Cannon" limitations in the sense that "only feds can fly fed ships built at Utopia Planetia 30 years ago" are clearly nothing but nonsense.

its not bad enough for you to stop logging in and complaining about it. half the players seem to have a gambling addiction so they will go for anything they release, regardless of these issues that have you so bent.
your analogy is TRIBBLE. you arent describing a new car in a show room your describing a stolen car. this game is a car you already bought, your dealing with upkeep issues for it now.

Look friend, I'm not here to argue with you on understanding of analogy or proper etiquette of of complacency. I am here to voice my discouragement in the lack of support and customer service that Perfect World seems to not be providing. If you enjoy nit picking feel free, this will be my final response to posts from you.
Btw, where do you find the tetryon phased weaponry ? Had not much time to log in few days.

Well, let's be honest. The paint is shiny and all of the wheels are there. One of the wheels is bald and needs replaced, but it's functional. The engine has a few kinks in it, shakes the car a lot when idling at a stoplight and leaks brake fluid on the highway. That is the state of STO if it were a car.
If it didn't have an engine, it'd crash on start up or whenever you tried to change maps.
