Well, I believe it'll be soon and it is based on the following reasons.
    • They turned on pre-patch.
    • The pre-patch is ~3.5GB in size.
    • PWE_Branflakes stickied this thread to the top of the page.

I would think if Season 6 wasn't launching soon, Brandon would have just let this thread go.

The pre-patch is ~3.5GB in size

how did u get that the file size or me 408kb

It patches 3.5GB worth of game files. The download is smaller. If you have Tribble up to date, then it'll just take it from that folder.

If you are already set to go, the patch will be that 408kb total. It's just checking to see if you need to patch or not (which obviously you no longer do, but it'll continue looking until they turn it off).

I think we need to invent a forum game for patch day, to keep everyone busy while the servers do the normal, start -> become overloaded -> crash (loop until Monday) routine.

If the patch wasn't planned for early in the morning, we could turn it into a drinking game. Take a shot every time a new thread is created.

All this "everything screws up to season releases" talk and advice to secure everything has me a little worried.

Mainly about my Mailbox . . . is that something that could possibly be lost as well?
I have quite a lot of "Spare" Doffs stored in there awaiting season 6. There's no where else to put Doff's in storage that I'm aware of. . .

I've been here since the early days...

In all the changes/code merges/patches, I have Never Lost any Emails or Belongings in my Banks (Fleet & Personal).
(there have been items that Cryptic altered in some way, but never lost)

The only variable this time around, is the Account Wide Bank and I'm going to take the four things out of it before hand just in case.

    (Though I doubt it'll be a problem)

BTW: I don't believe that this week will be the Big One.

I agree with the person who earlier said that They are probably doing the ZEN Conversion this week to get it out of the way before the Big One.

    Maybe next week...

From past forum history - if we tried that I think we would end up in A&E with alcohol poisoning  lol

As I said in the other thread, I don't think that would require a pre-patch. The conversion to and from Atari points was barely a footnote. I can't imagine that needing 3.5GB worth of patching.

Plus, I go back to a previous post in this thread: if this is not Season 6 pre-patching, why would Brandon sticky this thread? My OP specifically mentions Season 6 as the reason for the pre-patch. I can't imagine Brandon stickying this thread if Season 6 was still a few weeks off.

A list of where the vendors are who have the cheap commodities may be useful as well. While I;ve got a good sized backroll and don't mind just using the ships replicator to create them, some other players are dirt cheap and may have issues getting what they need for working on the fleetbases.

edit: Also a link to the spreadsheet for fleetbases may be something to consider as well:

I wasn't going to bother mentioning that. Mainly because I don't expect them to autopublish this time. Too much of the Foundry has changed. Even the most simple missions are going to need to be reworked.

True they didn't mention anything about that until this afternoon. From BranFlakes thread today:
    1) At the time Season 6 launches, the editing tool for the Foundry will be disabled as previous missions are republished -- we expect this editing downtime to last only a short while. Republishing will be an automatic process for almost all missions, but there are a few that will need to be manually updated before they can be republished.

Republishing is what broke a bunch of our missions in season 4, thought if I recall it wasn't the sole reason for the blackout.

I hope they learn from mistakes, but I prefer to err on the side of caution and will be temporarily taking down my missions Wednesday night. I'll republish manually thank you very much.

I added that info to the OP shortly after Brandon posted it. I was waiting on official word, and I got it.

As Cryptic has turned on pre-patching, it would appear that Season 6 will be coming to fruition in the coming days. Here are a few tips for some of the new players.

Clear the Exchanges Whether it be the regular exchange or the dilithium exchange, pull off everything. You don't want to lose them or risk the value changing.
First, thank you for posting this great informative thread.

What about the banks? Should we be clearing stuff out of there as well?

Thanks for the advice! :) I'll make sure to force-verify and pre-patch.

"Critics who say that the optimistic utopia Star Trek depicted is now outmoded forget the cultural context that gave birth to it: Star Trek was not a manifestation of optimism when optimism was easy. Star Trek declared a hope for a future that nobody stuck in the present could believe in. For all our struggles today, we haven’t outgrown the need for stories like Star Trek. We need tales of optimism, of heroes, of courage and goodness now as much as we’ve ever needed them."

No. Banks and inventory are fine. I would go ahead and clear out the account bank though in case there is a hiccup with it.

And what about mail? I've got a decent bit of stuff sitting in the mailbox... common DOffs that I don't have room for that I know are used in starbases, for example.

I still think this is the new season. If it wasn't, I think we'd at least see a release date by now. The combination of the pre-patching, the tribble rewards, and the mystery that has shrouded much of season 6's development has me convinced this is it.

If I'm wrong, I wouldn't mind at all. I'd like a few more days to build up my new fleet's membership!

If this is Season 6, then they likely are posting on the Website while the system is down.

But like many, I have to question if this is season 6, because the lack of notes or hype. And of course that blog that they are at Comic-Con. Though it would be a good delay as they can squash the remaining problems on Tribble, like with the Starbases.

If todays maintenance is NOT for Season 6, then that would be a first in regards to "Tribble Test Weekend" and Season updates. Season 1-5 had testing weekends, and the launch of each season to Holodeck happened within a matter of days after the conclusion of the testing weekend.

    Why break with tradition? :P

Still nothing definitive, but it edges me a bit further into the "it's probably coming" camp. I mean if it's not coming there would have been no harm in saying so.

Well it looks like this may no longer be relevant, but while I was reading the thread I couldn't help thinking "They are doing a special Friday 13th event, but do they really expect people to actually be able to complete it the day after season 6 is released?"
  • arcademasterarcademaster Member Posts: 0 Arc User

That Friday the 13th event only takes 10-15 minutes, so I'd wager everyone can squeeze it into their schedule if they want the doff.

Well, that was a nice non-denial denial from Dan. Seems to me to be a waste of time if they didn't go ahead and launch season 6 while the server is down. Hell, that's enough time to shoehorn the patches in if they wanted to.

This thread was made because everything is following a similar pattern that has occurred with all of the Season updates. The fact Brandon stickied it confirms that Cryptic has, at least, the goal of getting up.

I guess what Dan could be saying is "We have alloted enough time to launch Season 6 if we can, but since we never announced anything do not be surprised if we don't have the time to get it in there."

Simple way to determine whether Season 6 is coming or not.

Champions is down too for 7 hours. If Champs DID NOT have a prepatch, then Season 6 should be incoming. If Champs DID have a pre-patch, then Season 6 is likely NOT coming.

I patched... it took 14 seconds or so (take it my files were up to date)... Then i got into the game and rejected, tried to log in again, said version mismatch ^^

Restarted launcher, 140 MB patched in 4 seconds...
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.
