Scheduled Maintenance (July 6, 2012)

pwebranflakespwebranflakes Member Posts: 7,741
Hi Captains,

We will be bringing down Star Trek Online (Holodeck, Tribble and Redshirt) this Friday, July 6th, at midnight PDT (click here to view in your timezone) for maintenance. This is just shard maintenance, so there will be no patch or patch notes, and we expect this maintenance to only last for 2 hours.

Thanks for your patience and understanding,

- The Star Trek Online Team

any idea when the fixes for the interpid 900 day reward skin will be patched in?

its sad to think that people (like me) who are 900+ day vets cant use a reward item for them on a ship that was included with the game at launch.

    so... any eta?

The AI pathfinding in the fire caves have been bugged since launch and they still haven't fixed that yet either.

How about fixing the latest game launcher that was broken by the July 5th patch. I can't force verify and it hangs up when I get past the login page.

The launcher draws it's info from a web page rather than actual local software.

As you may have noticed there is no patch today, but try this:

Open iexplore, and clean your history. This sometimes takes care of launcher related issues.
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

I lost all but 18mins of my before work playtime, then come home after a long nightshift just wanting to relax on games for a bit, n yay a giant chunk of my after work time is taken too.

Well get some sleep in then hope that i might actually be able to play instead of cramming stuff into a short period yet again. Patch times are fun when your a uk player.

Well, it is a free to play game now. At least they are doing maintenance and patches. I'm really looking forward to Season 6 with the fleet stations, Tholian series etc. I keep trying other MMOs and keep coming back here since Sony shutdown Star Wars Galaxies last December. Star Wars: The Old Republic was a huge letdown, especially with the limited space options like their rail system, where you fly a predetermined route through the zone with only control of your ship in the Y and X 2 dimensional directions. There were times I wished I could have turned around and flew back to areas I went through previously. And, even though TOR had a good story the PVP sucked. Plus it had no space PVP. I really miss Galaxies with all the ship part reengineering and freedom in the space zones. Oh well, Lucasarts and Sony really gutted that game when they went to the NGE. If not for that I think SWG would still be going today.

The servers are down for maintenance atm. And I can't figure out why my avatar lost it's career officer tag. Oh well, I'll figure it out later.

Haha, server is really messed up. Says I last visited the page December 31 1969. I'm pretty sure the internet wasn't around then, much less Perfect World and Star Trek Online. Been playing since Beta and I guess when I connected my acct to Perfect World I lost all the data on my old posts and time played. Oh well.

Hhmmm I hope there isn't a more serious problem,

I too were getting that "unable to authenticate" message when trying to launch the launcher and when I signed into my account on the forum I was met by this -

As I recall the original Cryptic forums had the same problem whenever they were working on the account servers.

    Same for me.

It might be an idea for someone to change the "Server Up" message on the main hompe page to "Server Down" ;)

Uggg not again! Lost most of yesterdays play time too.

It would be nice if just ONCE these where scheduled not to TRIBBLE people in the UK.

Why not do them at rolling time intervals like some of the in game events, then everyone in inconvenienced equally? Crazy idea, eh?

The server does appear to be up, I'm in game playing it just now, must have been a quick patching session.

Actually yes... that is crazy. You dont always shift server maintenance times, makes it hard to schedule the people that need to be there, and you dont generally do it during office hours, you do it when it will inconvenience the least amount of people. Since Cryptic is based in the US, they will do it during the night in the US, since they are closed and there are less people on.

Its not actually uncommon for an MMO to have more than one server. . usually segregated by geographical area to maximise connection speed and minimise these kind of disruptions. Guess cryptic is too cheap.

As for the "don't want to work at 2am" argument, speaking as someone who often works silly hours in the name of customer service. . . Well Boo Hoo, not much sympathy here.

I've tried to be good and suck it up thus far, but 2 days in a row is taking the TRIBBLE. Do it right the first time.

It's just tough. Majority of the players live in the states, they choose the time that inconveniences the smallest number of players. I'm sure the Cryptic staff would rather not be in the office at midnight for 2 hours but they are in order to minimise population disruption. If you live in other timezones like the UK suck it up or get more UK players so that we are the largest player base, then they would change the times to suite.

you say the majority lives in the US really funny how 90% of the ppl i see talking are foreign like German for example
