I'm sure its an old question being rehashed, but i'm trying to decide which is better;
the MACO set, or the AEGIS set, thoughts and opinions please?

Wait until someone says: 3Borg+Maco Shield ;)
(which I actually prefer, easy to obtain)

From both selections: Maco, better in every way.

50% of your survival in PvP depends on your mates, the rest is divided on your skill, your opponent's skill and your itemstats.

Depends on your ship, character class, and play style. Most non-Sci captains/ship will want to avoid the full Aegis set. There are interesting exceptions, given that the main proc is a defense amp, so certain Escort captains could make good use of it.

Aegis shield with Borg three-piece is decent until you can afford the MACO shield for tanking.

i like keeping things neat and tidy, you know well organized. i worked hard to get certain sets including the aegis. you can do okay with the aegis set, but as many here will tell you the borg set with maco shields is the way too go. i found it hard to break up sets, but it works better with the mixed set.

i have both the omega and maco II sets and they just don't compare to the borg / maco set up.

i think the reman II set might be different. i will know in a month or 2 since you need 96 datalogs to fully upgrade. 37 to go.....ugh.

survival in pvp need a little more than just good gear. Need a proper skill tree, a good build, and a good captian, and ofc teamwork

(Just to make quoted member happy)

I think you should go with

    Borg Deflector
    Borg Engine
    Borg Console
    MACO Sheild

    Why?

3 Borg pieces = Autonomous Regeneration sequencer (Passive High Powered Hazard Emitters) + Multi Regenerative Shield Array (Passive shield heal)

MACO Shield: Resilient shield, absorbing more than average levels of incoming damage... And Is passively healed by the borg set.
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

For PvE I prefer the borg shield for my setup. I like the higher regen rather than the bigger pool. I consider myself properly tanking if I am almost never at full shields. If there is an enemy out there I want him shooting at me and not the rest of my team. Distribute shields is your bestest friend!

For PvP I could see maybe wanting a bigger pool with more resistance to better survive the alpha strike, but I do not really PvP much at all.

the reward for successfully completing the vault mission is datalogs.....one at a time.

Aegis shield has slightly higher capacity and slightly lower regneration. MACO shield has damage reduction, reduced bleedthrough damage, and the power boosting ability. Only times I'd pick Aegis over MACO is 1) I would rather just pay off the exchange rather than deal with the STF grind, 2) I'm packing other Aegis stuff and want the set bonuses, or 3) I want the Aegis look (admittedly it looks really cool). Otherwise, Aegis is pretty good but MACO is better.

    Edit:
Re-read the original post, realized he's asking about complete sets not just shields. My bad.

I use 2P Reman with the KHG Shield and that works quite well with the enhanced High Yield Plasma Torpedoes hitting very hard. I assume the MACO would work just as well but you really do need the Plasma Torps for it to work. Also I've just upgraded from the default Reman set to the Mk XII Rare (If the research succeeded) but I've yet to put it into play.

MACO Shield is probably the best shield in the game for anything but an Escort. I like 3P Omega for an Escort but I could see 2P/2P Omega/Borg working on it.
I was once DKnight1000, apparently I had taken my own name so now I'm DKnight0001.
If I ask you a question it is not an insult but a genuine attempt to understand why.
When I insult you I won't be discreet about it, I will be precise and to the point stupid.
