I'm not so sure that's true. I've had the same DOFF layout since maybe rank 35 at most (Rank 50 now, been so for about a month and a half), and since then I've changed ships 3 or so times, and weapons/shields much more than that. I can honestly say the weapons/shields of my ship and the power layout made for a MUCH larger impact on gameplay than any DOFF ability I had.
maybe in pve when your opponents are brainless hit point sponges. in pvp someone with a crummy active roster doesn't stand a chance.
"Critics who say that the optimistic utopia Star Trek depicted is now outmoded forget the cultural context that gave birth to it: Star Trek was not a manifestation of optimism when optimism was easy. Star Trek declared a hope for a future that nobody stuck in the present could believe in. For all our struggles today, we haven’t outgrown the need for stories like Star Trek. We need tales of optimism, of heroes, of courage and goodness now as much as we’ve ever needed them." -Thomas Marrone
Y'know i really wouldn't mind more ships... but your drop rates for people getting them is silly... some people can get 3-4 ships then some others will open twice as many boxes than that other person and not get anything but junk, same with the Doff packs, needs to be evened out i'd say

Just because a 1% chance means one out of one hundred is a win doesn't mean your hundred tries is going to include a winner. It's even over all players, just not necessarily over just one player.

From what I've heard, in PVP even little armament/skill mistakes are nigh unforgivable, so it's entirely possible something that small could give another person an advantage. However, from what else I've heard, PVP really isn't a big part of the game, given that PVP sucks ATM, and it's being reworked at some point by Cryptic. Hopefully Active Rosters will have a more fair place on your win chances.
I find it strange that the Tuffli is in a "lockbox".
AFAIK freighters are quite common in Trek. So why must these be gambled on to be obtained? I thought the gambling aspect of getting ships was for those that are rare or shouldn't be that obtainable by Star Fleet or that CBS doesn't want commonly available.
No no, CBS has instisted these ships be rare. It's not about gouging the player base. Not at all.
<eyeroll>
I think the whole "When in doubt, blame CBS" thing may have officially become a staple for both sides of the coin.
On-topic, I never mind a new ship, as long as it isn't simply for cosmetic reasons, which this one certainly isn't.
I love the Doff system and hope to see more expansion upon it in the coming seasons. If adding a new ship is the next step forward, so be it. That being said, I honestly don't care about it being a random drop, since I've given up on that noise.
Because it makes perfect sense that some old freighter can craft anything it wants on board, but the newest Federation carrier escort cant...
If they want to monetize the extra features, fine. Add it to the interior packages. Make a new one that's not from a canon show and maybe even an assimilated one. I think it's silly having to go to a freighter to do things that you should be able to do on a starship.
I find this blog to be a bit humorous... a non-combat ship, possibly OP new Doff powers (are we going to get them in random assignments as well, or only in the Reinforcements pack?), and a chance to "pay-to-win" on getting a Mk XII VR Console (though honestly it's only marginal improvement, PvPers are always trying to squeeze the last drop of performance out of their ships). I prefer this over the prizes from the lockboxes.
I agree. Having the rare ships and other prizes come with the DOFF packs feels much more like getting a toy prize in your box of cracker jacks instead of like buying lottery tickets. I am pleased to see them continuing this trend instead of tossing the new freighter into the lockboxes.

Failed statistics? If something has say a 1% chance then someone might try a 100 or a thousand times and never win. Someone might try once and win. With the probable outcome being 1 in 100. Think of it as rolling percentile dice.
I somehow doubt CBS would have any reservations about stock freighters being released into the game, more so than antique Federation ships. In any sensible universe, poorly or completely unarmed freighters would outnumber cruisers with the firepower to depopulate several planets by at least two to one. I'd hope.
I don't know. I liked the change over with the gamma cadres, and I'm going to need some Federation flight deck officers anyway, but seeing as I'm much disinclined to turn over any more information to PWE than I already have been forced to, and buying Cryptic points therefor being out of the question for the foreseeable future, I may just have to give it a few days and see what the Exchange does.

There is no choice in the matter. Did you really expect PW to keep paying for 2 separate web teams? They are merging all of their game forums.
Well it's good to see things released in a way that is not going to fill my game screen with litter.
The DOff pack sounds like fun. Power creep is inevitable, but I do not think it is too bad here. I think that the DOffs do a great job of allowing us to really focus our build beyond the vanilla skills that we already have.
I had a nice chuckle at the name of the ship. Congrats Heretic. I am slightly disappointed to see crafting coming only to another very expensive lottery ship. Existing interiors are in a sorry state for many reasons. Crafting, if available via ships, should be available to all.
If anyone is wondering about their odds of winning a ship, assuming they treat it as buying 2.2 keys for normal boxes, would be about 1.097%. Remember it is a geometric distribution so you do not multiply the normal 0.5% by 2.2.
See the links in my signature if you are interested in more details. The Jem'Hadar drop rates are particularly pertinent.

It's not in a lockbox. It's a possible reward for buying a Doff pack.
It's still lotto. You could spend hundreds of dollars and never get the "reward". No, it's not a lockbox (they've just repackaged the lotto/lockbox system). People who want to buy the ship will still get reamed trying.
Great Job on designing how this works unfortunately there is a core problem I see in regards to how the game is going with these kinds of changes.
Its seemingly going back to text based gaming and not really much of any game play going in although its something nice in the game on the side its oddly the biggest money maker in the c-store and the direction this game is going to so I wouldn't be interested in grinding up dilithium for this.
In conclusion I want more of gameplay rather than grinding 24/7 just to get the next trading card LOL.
Oh here we go another useless ship we didn't ask for, not like we have been asking for a Sovy Refit, Ambassador Class, 2409 skin for the Excelsior, shall I go on. They keep making these ship and not the ones we ask for that we all would buy. Just another nail in the coffin. I wont be buying this with a chance of maybe getting that ship.

Can you ONLY find the new Doff powers in this pack? Or can they randomly show up on in game acquired Doffs?
And THAT'S what I want to know.
... and no, the Exchange doesn't count...
And yeah, I'd also like to know when we're getting more functionality in our interiors like crafting, banking, Exchanging, mailing, etc.. We've been told that was coming for ages, and now it's being added to all the "big ticket" ships. So when do the rest of us get it? Since we've been teased with this for about two years now.
While I do approve of adding value to purchases, all the DOff ship options should be available in our regular ships like they were promised to be over a year ago.
I'll probably buy a couple packs just out of curiosity but that about it.
It's not a costume it's a ship so I would think it unlikely
Correct. The Merchantman is an original freighter in Star Trek. As is the Tuffli. I'm merely suggesting that I would enjoy the skin/costume of this Merchantman as an alternate costume option for the Tuffli. Rather than offering both as separate freighters. They needn't have interchangeable parts. Just swap out the costume entirely.
Before fully decked out Starfleet starships were offered in the C-Store, they sold inexpensive starship costumes. Imperial and Nimbus class, as examples. Which, at this point, really should be sold through the GPL store.

Brandon, does the "Energy Credit Discount" apply to exchange purchases too, or is it only for NPC vendors?

Also, no engineering related new ground doff?
