It's been over 20 years since David was first given command of the Republic. Granted, it effectively amounted to a battlefield promotion and he was replaced by someone 'more experienced' as soon as the war ended while he was sent to command the R.S.S. Intrepid, Matt saw to it that he was sent back to the Republic 5 years later.
That makes 16 years in total that he's spent in command of the Republic since then, and he wasn't exactly pleased at the possibility of being superseded by a superior officer - especially not when that officer only defected 2 days ago.*
Petrarch: So, if our plan is to eventually make a straight-line attack on the Dalos Star Group, we need to know what to expect. That means we need to split into 2 groups with a recon group that has a fully operational command ship - the Republic.
David: In other words, you're taking command.
*Petrarch raises an eyebrow.*
Petrarch: You misunderstand. I want you to command the recon group. I need to stay here to prepare for the attack with Northman and to await Admiral Forrester's return. However, you commanded the Republic response force at Eris II. You know the logistic needs for this operation as well as I.
David: What do I need to do?
Petrarch: You'll take the R.S.S. Echo and 4 other ships of your choice and find out the state of the Home Fleet. You'll also need to assess the situation the attacking forces will face trying to reach Dalos Alpha Prime. After that, I need to be informed of what you found and then I need you to remain undetected. Harass Clark's supply lines if you can.
David: Understood.

Petrarch: Who do you want? You can't have the Dreadnought or Yamato. *Smirks.*

Slade has remained on dalos since his attack on gage and sinclaire. He has been watching republic military and Jeeping an eye on Clark. He doesn't have an actual job here he right now simply wants to see what happens and how things play out.

Merc1: kal we found a sealed door going to make an entrance and see what's inside.

They set some charges on the door and blast through. They find the room is empty save for a single massive cryo tube in the center. They slowly walk up to it weapons drawn.
Merc1: that thing is big.
Merc2: let's run a scan and see what's inside.
Before they can scan it the door blasts open. And the figure walks out. It is large and muscular as it let's out a heavy blast of energy killing the two instantly.

Metran: it worked my thoughts are clear. Now it is time to exact revenge and then I can return to rule my empire.
