" Now the gate has been unlatched headstones pushed aside; corpses shift and offer room ,a fate you must abide."
Hanson would find himself in a room with a transparent wall looking into space. He would see Maelstrom gazing out at all the traffic around the gateway and the nearby Columbia. "Welcome aboard. You have a nice vessel. I was aware this may happen when I made the second exploratory jump. I guess we didn't have enough power to make it all the way back to our time. I suppose that's the reason this timline looks the way it does. There'd probably be a great many more warbird variants about if I had successfully made the return trip." He spoke softly, growls and hisses vanishing beneath the translated words chimed by the computer. In his hand was a glass of Gorn home-world 'slarg', a green swampy mixture that had partial algae content, to non reptilians it was typically very unappetizing and had the same kick as Romulan Ale. There was even a rumor at one point the Gorn had plasma torpedoes that were fueled by the stuff.
"What happened to the Federation.. the Empire? Where are the borg?" Maelstrom would turn to ask.
The ship chimed in her soft female voice, "I would like to know what happened to the Borg as well. I have a slight affection for them given a good chunk of my intelligence is derived on their algorithms."
"Oh, sorry.. That's the Emperor, she's self aware and a functional part of her crew." Maelstrom would explain.
The room was hot, humid.. like an everglade swamp.
Hanson: An artificial intelligence? The Republic experimented with that around 30 years ago.
*He gestures out the window, at the Synthesiser Cruisers circling Lanco II - their new homeworld.*
The Synthesisers were the result. They tried to wipe out the Republic and then, after we thought them dead, the Iconians too.
A shadow group in our government kidnapped a cadet, Samantha Allington.
*30 years ago, Palos VII. Samantha Allington is lying on a biobed, a tube pumping chemicals into her neck as a scientist takes a blood sample from her wrist.*
Hanson *narration*: They changed her, physically and mentally. They had no idea what they were creating, so they made sure they had a backup of her mind - her memories, personality, emotions, all inside a machine the size of your fist.
*They attach equipment to her temples, with opti-cable running into a small pedestal where an AISD (Artificial Intelligence Storage Drone) is waiting.*
Morrison: Neural upload complete. Start repressing her mind.

Hanson *narration*: What they didn't realise was that they weren't just creating an assassin to use against their enemies - they were also creating an enemy.
*Hanson looks out the window.*
Hanson: Now, we're their protectors, as ironic as that is. Even more ironic, the Synthesisers are part of the galaxy's last hope.
A little under a year ago, an armada of cybernetic alien machine ships attacked. They hit Earth first, and the Federation is barely holding itself together. The Klingon Empire is fighting fiercely, but they won't hold forever. The Romulans haven't been hit yet, but they're getting ready. As for the Republic... we're keeping the Eblisi contained every way we can. Even if we have to destroy subspace to do it.
*He remembers the battle at Bastion.*
The Borg... Well... we don't know about the Borg.
*He turns back to Maelstrom.*
A few years after the end of the Klingon-Federation War, an alliance of Alpha Quadrant powers destroyed the Collective. But, 25 years ago, a former drone took control over what little was left.
We stopped her before she could destroy Earth, in revenge for the Federation betraying her in the past. Then, we protected her people, and tried to help her.
Oddly enough, just before the Eblisi appeared, they vanished...
"Eblisi.. that's the group of sentient ships making a mess of things. Sounds like a new borg. I think you'll find the Emperor slightly ahead of her time. We had been working with the Remans before we left, so she is now a patchwork of different technology. Her crew is also diverse. My chief science officer is B'etara, a Klingon... My chief Tactical officer, is a Lethean, named Horin. My head engineer is an android. My security officer is a Reman we picked up while dealing with them and integrating some of their technology. The head of ops is a liberated borg. Before I left I was a Brigadier General in the KDF, this was my flagship.. but I was plotting the restoration of the Gorn Monarchy without their knowledge. I guess that fight is irrelevant now given the time and the situation." He took a long drink of his Slarg and resumed gazing out at the surrounding ships. "And what is this Republic.. are you just the grouping of the Federation, the Romulans, the Klingon Empire.. these.. Synthesisers... in some form of larger government? If so.. I bet the political discourse and infighting would be reminiscent of bar-room brawling." He chortled, coming out as a series of sharp, short hisses.
"All the same.. Where are we? The planet you are taking us to.. what's the purpose in going there? You have been open with me, I intend on remaining open with you so long as you continue to do the same." He tapped his jaw.. "Also, you said this gate is only between two points. I believe you are probably incorrect.. and I think the Iconians may be holding out on you. If they aren't, then they may own the gates now, but it wouldn't explain why you are not already aware of our findings because they should have told you. What are the fates of the Iconian Dyson Spheres?"

Hanson: The Republic isn't an alliance of the Federation and other powers. In 2410, the Federation was split by a civil war. By the war's end, several Federation worlds and starbases had seceded. A few years later, they banded together with the Dalos Star Group to form the Republic.
Lanco III is the site of an ancient Iconian Gateway - older than any ever encountered before, part of the first ever Iconian Gateway network.
*He gestures to the colossal ring outside.*
After the fall of the Iconian Empire, they fled our Galaxy and started anew. They only recently redeveloped the technology to build Gateways again, so our discovery on Lanco II is as important to them as it is to us. Lanco III is the closest Republic Military Base, shared between us, the Federation, the Klingon Empire, the Iconians and the Romulans.
You should know, General, that your people are free. At the end of the Federation-Klingon War, one of our conditions was the release of the Gorn Hegemony. Your people are a member of the United Galactic Convention. 20 years ago, it was an attempt by the major powers to create a forum and, hopefully a united galactic government. But, when the Eblisi attacked, corrupt politicians in the UGC made it so the UNSC and Republic couldn't remain there in good conscience. When we pulled out, the Federation and Klingon Empire did the same. Now, the Dominion is the only major power still a part of it, and they're coordinating the U.G.C. to prepare for when the Eblisi eventually come for them.
As for Iconian Dyson Spheres... I'm sorry, but I'm not aware of any.
"It's good to hear my people govern themselves again. Not so good to hear I had no part of it.." Amused, he again hissed in a soft chortling pattern.
He scratched his jaw, turning his left eye upon Hanson again. "We had assumed the spheres were of Iconian origins. But maybe we were wrong. The last sphere we encountered was only accessible through a gateway in the Tau Dewa sector block. We found another gateway inside the sphere.. in the core if its star. It behaved differently than the others. We had to initiate transwarp to activate it. When we activated it, we found ourselves at a gateway outside of normal space and time. It was 1000000000000066600000000000001 light years away from the sphere, a number associate with what the humans called, 'Belphegor's prime'. We had discovered a gateway network based on prime number intervals. The Iconians.. never mentioned anything about it?" He canted his head to the side in inquiry, seeming somewhat confused.
"Hrmm.. maybe we're more than just in a different time..." He would have to have astrometrics check for the chroniton and tacyhon flux variants once he was done with this conversation.

Hanson: We never even knew there was a Gateway in Tau Dewa.
"I think we have a fascinating puzzle on our hands then. I don't think we're from this timeline.. perhaps not even the same universe. Belphegor's gate operates on a palindromic prime location in the gate sequence from where it sent us here. It's possible that the nature of the prime number selected was critical in key equations for its builder. It may be connected to gates in different dimensions, universes, times and the palindromic nature of the prime number used may mean that it's a two way gate. If.. my analysis so far.. is correct. While you perceive this gate to only go to one other point.. we may be able to configure it and any other gate to go to Belphegor's gate.. question is.. who made that gate? The writing was Iconian, but.. whose Iconians? What a puzzle."
He looked back to Hanson, "We'll go with you, but I want to request time with whoever is now administratively responsible for this gate to examine it, we may be able to get a safe configuration that may prove useful to ourselves.. and possibly you as well. We'll share with you our current data on what we learned. For now. I think my crew needs some kind of shore leave... when you've no stars.. and are afraid if you make a single error you'll end up starved and frozen outside of time.. it's quite stressing. The best warriors crack when staring at the void."

He nodded to Hanson and returned to the bridge after the Captains departure. "Horin, lay in a course following the Columbia. We're in a very unusual situation." The Dragon Emperor followed the Columbia.
Strauss walks into the conference center on reach. Where a group of officers are waiting.
Strauss: well then shall we get started.
Commodore parson: we can't keep this up general. The defense line won't hold with what we have and we can't make a major offensive without more ships.
Strauss: I am well aware of that parsons but with the conflict escalating in Virgo more ships aren't coming.
Terrace: Strauss be honest how long has this battle in Virgo been going on really.
Strauss sighs before sitting down.
Strauss: it's been going on now for almost 15 years. We have had minor skirmishes but nothing big ever happened.
Parson: until fleet comm sends in a battle group to scout out the area because ONI hasn't told them.
Strauss: things needed to be kept quite while we where fighting the elbisi. We had hoped to finish this battle before fully engaging the papal mainframe.
Terrace: well that worked out well so far Jacob is dead and we lost a whole battle group to one of there ships.
" Now the gate has been unlatched headstones pushed aside; corpses shift and offer room ,a fate you must abide."
*OOC: Busy day today had to go and restock the refrigerator. *
Terry: We sign in to the hotel set up by the agency, the card game is going to be the following night... so we will have an evening when we have to watch ourselves and settle in. As there is plenty of things to do in the Hotel...
Not to mention a beach..
Now the card game is Texas Hold'em which I am familiar with.
Fali: More temporally displaced peoples. Funny how that happens. Admiral Hammond. I apologize for that close call my curiosity was inquisitive.. As for the others they do listen to me but I will have to tell you that we not been able to find Waff. It seems that he only wants to come out when he wants to come out. His army is sizable.
