*R.S.S. Normandy, Lanco III. The Normandy is landed on Lanco III at the so-called 'Alpha Site', while John inspects the newly-completed Gateway Facility elsewhere on the planet.

A Republic lieutenant is showing him around, now in the Gate Room. John walks up to the Gateway as the lieutenant explains the recovery process to him.*

Lieutenant: We've had a fairly rigorous time digging the Gateway back up since it was buried 25 years ago. The Iconians and Synthesisers have been helping. We think we're ready to try dialling out.

John: Lieutenant, you try dialling out with this thing, you'll blow up the whole mountain.

    Lieutenant: Sir?

John: Where are the energy taps?

    Lieutenant: The Iconians didn't mention--

John: Lieutenant, when we discovered this thing, we secured the Romulan Rebels' notes on it. They tried to start the thing up and had to shut down again because of an extreme thermal energy build-up. We installed energy taps to it to siphon all the excess energy off and back into the base's power systems.

Lieutenant: But, according to your reports, the Gateway on the planet you visited had no power taps.

John: That Gateway had a companion device which allowed our people to dial back. It maintained a power transfer beam with the Gateway, taking the excess power away and sending it into the planet surface.

Just... get the power taps installed.

    Lieutenant: Aye, sir.

*The two walk out and into a corridor, passing a couple of worker drones.*

    John: Where's Admiral Hammond?

Lieutenant: Still en-route sir. He thought it would be best if you gave your inspection first, since you're the Galaxy's leading expert on Iconian technology.

    John: Alright.

    Anything else I should know?

Lieutenant: Most of the Iconian teams have left the base and are waiting in orbit to see if it's possible to link this network to their galaxy.

John: That'll be something to see. It'll take a lot of power though.

Lieutenant: I still don't understand why they don't just give us their gateway tech.

John: They did that once with twilight weapons, remember? Look how that turned out. There's a reason we have a low-interference directive, Lieutenant.

But, they're more than happy to let us use the old network. It's a historical study for them as much as it is for us. These gates were ancient even before the Iconians were forced out of our galaxy by the Shedai.

Just imagine what this network could mean. It would connect the farthest reaches of our galaxy - areas of space we still haven't explored - with us via an instantaneous mode of travel.

I've been trying to get the Senate to restart the program for the past 20 years. It took a team of Iconian Studiers, the help of the Synthesisers and about 50 favours, but it's finally going to happen.

Lieutenant: It's just a shame Dr Holtz won't be able to join us...

*John remains silent for a moment.*

    John: Yes, it is.

Have we picked a destination yet?

Lieutenant: No. We're waiting on the Federation Observer. The Romulans and Klingons are already here.

    John: Good.

*Hawk makes his way to the mortars, stealthily closing the distance. He takes cover behind a hovercraft before taking out Weiss' comm chip. He slips it into his wristguard.*

Hawk: Team 3 to mortar team, there's a large group of husks heading towards your position! Fall back to the rally point!

*He watches as the mortar crews abandon their equipment and flee in an orderly manner.*

    Suckers...

*He draws his bow once they're clear before launching photon arrows at each mortar, destroying them.*

I love the smell of burning war machines in the morning.

*Hawk quickly departs before the mortar crews realise what happened.*

While jacob monitors the enemy camp.

    Virgo Galaxy
    Jehrico 7, New Harmony City

UNSC Reporter: its a time of celebration today as we celebrate the Original signing of the UNSC charter. President Zaigo is expected to give his speech within the hour. Meanwhile the 501st has been parading through the city as the 12th airborn flies overhead giving everyone here at the capital today a wonderful display. In more serious news though the 19th battle group commanded by Commodore Mai was dispatched to the Oroco sector where covenant rebels attacked the mining outpost in that area. Also fighting continues in the Milky Way as General Strauss, Fleet Admiral Harper, and Vice Admiral Terrace continue battling there. We expect the president to make his speech within the hour as Honor Guard is now on the stage preparing for his arrival.

Jehrico 7 there is a loud applause as Zaigo appears on the platform flanked by ODST honor guard in the black and gold trimmed armor. The 501st stands in formation as a squad of Broadsword fighters flies overhead.

Zaigo: Everyone! We have been through much these last decades but we have emerged stronger then ever before! We have fought and will continue to fight till our enemy burns or we are no more! On this special day though we must honor those who have fallen and those who made this all reality. The UNSC has grown far beyond what i think the signers of that original charter ever thought it would. We have allies in other galaxies we helped form a new government and are its military strength. We have made strong allies and fought bloddy battles. As I look out to the horizon and what the future has in store for us I know one thing. We will continue to grow and we will not ever go quietly into the night. We will make the galaxy shake with out determination before we go. Let us never forget those though who races into the howling the storm and did not return. Their sacrifice required courage beyond measure. And they will not be forgotten.
