With the year of hell and the utter incompetence of Dan Stahl to execute any kind of project that involved KDF despite the numerous claims of "Hey guys, trust me, i am a lover of KDF.". One wonders if its time to pack up and get more enjoyment from watching Startrek instead of playing STO.
Are we going to see an "Klingon Flagship" only for the next month a revised or otherwise rehashed Enterprise F to show up with the exact same stat line as the KDF Flagship?
I'll get down to the point.
My brothers and sisters, sons and daughters of Kahless; What are your visions of KDF in 2012?
ADDENDUM:
I apologize for laying it at Stahl's feet, he was not the only one that has caused our hardships.
I agree that 2011 was monumentally difficult for the KDF community but I think laying the blame at DStahl's door is a little unfair. Not that I'm an apologist, but 2011 was a turbulent year for Cryptic as well. But, with the "year of hell" behind us it truly does seem that things are on the mend.
Recent improvements and announcements give a flavour of the positive things yet to come for the KDF.
Expansion of Klingon Fleet Roster - Let's face it, the effort that's gone into the art of the new ships is impressive. Yes, they may be C-Store but after months of nothing, as a predominantly KDF player, I'll take whatever I can get. The consoles...that's a different story that I know some PVP players aren't best pleased with but to be honest, for the predominently PVE players it shouldn't really be that big a deal. Plus, Klingon Flagship - BRING IT ON!!!
STFs - Yes, while a grind, the changes have undoubtedly improved KDF opportunities for STF play. As one of the long-suffering KDF players forced to sit in Gamma Orionis and scout either zone chat or the KDF STF channel until faction-specific team was available pre-S5, I for one am grateful for the enhanced opportunity for playability that the new cross-faction teaming and queue system has granted the playerbase. The cooldown does seem a tad too long, especially for those with tight time constraints on their play time, and the leaver penalty should ideally be addressed in relation to penalising those who have been bailed-out-on by the first couple of leavers. But all in all, it's progress in the right direction. I just wish there was the option to run the old-style STFs via the queue system as well as the bitesize versions seem to have largely lost their narrative experience.
Remastering Fed Missions for KDF Play - As far as I can recall, this has been a goal even during DStahl's time in office, and is a goal that I believe resurfaced recently in one of those blog posts. Whilst not here yet, the addition of more PVE content for KDF is ALWAYS a plus.
DOFF System - Despite being a neutral, cross-faction update, I have yet to meet a single player who does not like the sheer awesomeness of the DOFF system. It's the first update in as long as I can remember that actually lets you feel like a proper starship captain. An expansion is slated to appear near or around summer according to another of the recent blog posts, and with the planned enhancements for department heads and First Officer functionality (not sure if this is the expansion or not?), it seems that this will go from strength-to-strength.
But, to reply to the OP's closing statement, here is my wishlist for the KDF in 2012:
Territory Control / Border Disputes - TRIBBLE the Borg Invasion of Defera, where the hell is the Klingon Invasion of Defera? The Empire came to their aid during the Breen FE and have received sweet nothing for the trouble! Outrageous! LOL :P It would be fun if, somehow, the Deferi could be the subject of a territory expansion stand-off between the Feds and KDF - with each fighting for some mineral resource or tactical advantage somehow indigineous to Deferi space. The stand-off could potentially go-on indefinately and give the PVP players some love with territory control, whilst also progressing the backstory post Breen FE.
Rura Penthe "Prison Break" Daily - Come on now, what KDF captain can honestly say that surpressing or responding to an outbreak on Rura Penthe wouldn't be fun? The zone is already there, prime for utilisation. It could bring Feds into it (with them actively trying to recover specific prisoners). Again, this could be PVE or PVP...or (wait for it....)...BOTH! It would give all players, regardless of faction, something to do (when they're not busy scouting sector and system space for DOFF assignments!).
Homeworld Additions - It's been said before by players more seasoned than myself, but the KDF just isn't what it should be without some political intrigue and back-biting between the Great Houses. Deposing Jm'pok - hell yeah, I'm all for that. No High Chancellor can hold so much as a Dk'Tagh to the sheer awesomeness of Martok. How about if a system was put in place where the player could do certain daily missions for increase faction points for a specific house, similar to other MMOs - (am thinking the two clans in GW:Factions)? Also, with the courthouse building already there effectively on First City, and with the Judge sitting outside randomly insulting passers-by, it would be cool for some kind of repeatable / daily mission whereby the player could defend a BOFF on court-martial or even be on the prosecution against an NPC? Those episodes of Trek were always fun and this would be a great way to add a flavour of the TV series into what it means to be a ST captain on STO. Kind of like a Fed and KDF version of JAG.
Klingon vs. Romulan PVE Story-Arc - Let's face it, Trek just isn't Trek without these two legendary factions stabbing each other in the back at some inconvinient juncture in time, usually with the Feds raising an eyebrow on the sidelines! The Reman FE was fantastic and opens the door to all manner of opportunities for KDF/Rommie confrontation.
To be honest, there is so much potential both for this faction and game that it would be an endless feat to try listing all possiblities here but it is the duty of all loyal KDF (and Fed) players to ensure that our voice is heard in helping to keep this game at the top of its game for as long as possible.
Common all at DStahl's feet? Really? I blame Atari for not supporting this game during the decision to sell. I blame Jakalope for making even bigger pie in the sky promises and not delivering. Stahl was nothing more than a victim of too little resources, a bit too much ambition and a honest urge to make this game as good as he could. OK he made pie in the sky promises, but the dude tried. Under Stahl we saw the KDF get far more than it did under Zink, (after launch).
NX89 hit the good ones already, (by the way man your suggestions... Duh. Winning).
Racking my brain here...
Seriously NX89 got the really good ones.
Targ breeding.
A-10 Warthog style teeth for our forward torpedo launchers.
More KDF stories/missions.
18% patches for all who got a KDF to LtG over a year ago.
God these are so basic.
I would like to see house intrigue and territory control tied into KvK PvP. That way we could get marading points the way that Fedies get diplo from non-combat missions doing what Kingons do when they are not fighting others. Besides we should still be encouraged to PvP.
I want the same thing I've been preaching for almost 2 years.
A complete KDF faction with PvE gameplay to allow immersion into what it is to be in the KDF.
We have very little, though what we have is awesome in design and function, but we need full faction gameplay if F2P sto is to draw in any Klingon fans and get them to stay
the entire game got very little in 2011, not just the klingons. its not like there was hundreds of missions added and klingons got jack all.
the klingon faction is in a massively better state that its ever been but 2011 is hardly a good year to judge on klingon improvement for multiple reasons to do with atari/pw and f2p.
now in terms of going forward;
i would like to see those first 20 levels all get an episode (probably wont all happen in 2012 but 10 would be a decent start).
i would like to see a couple of unique klingon locations like rura penthe and ty'gokor added with something to do there.
more tier 5 kdf ships and skins.
a new playable species.
more sorties.
improvements to pvp which would benefit both factions.
The Klingon faction could be so much more than what it is.
Cryptic needs to add meaningfull PVE KDF missions that tells a Star Trek story from the Klingons perspective.
Federation built FE that Klingons will be able to play will not be enough and it never will be.
Hell at this point I'm willing to pay for a KDF expansion if it gives me a much better Klingon experience.
Indepth story driven PVE Klingon missions that depict stories of Honor, Betrayal, Revenge and Klingon Politics.
Throughout Trek it seemed that the Klingons were always dealing with some internal Political power struggles and the threat of Civil War was always looming; the Klingons in STO feel nothing like this.
The Romulan Star Empire is ripe for conquest! Why are we not seizing this opportunity to deal with one of our most hated Blood Enemies Once and For All!!
The Undine, these cowards mock us from the shadows; they seek to sow the seeds of fear and distrust throughout the Alpha Quadrant! Why do we not continue the Hunt for these Honorless DenIb Qatlh !!
The Federation, if these P'Tok are truly our enemies then why has J'mpok not ordered a full Offensive strike on the Sol system so we can rip out the very Hart of the Federation!!!
I think it may be time for New Leadership in the Klingon Council!
Yes! we need a new Leader! a Leader that does not Fear conflict!!
Leader that shows no Mercy to the Enemies of the Empire!!
I'd love if the KDF storyline had some of the epic's that the federation storyline has. Like the Overcharged Plasma Sniper Rifle. Polarized Tetryons. even a mission that gives all purple Polarons. Yes I'm looking at you "The Long Night". It seems kind of unfair that the federation has access to this sort of thing. I can probably name each mission with Federation Only Epics. but that would just prove a lack of care in the developers. I mean it could easily be done with the foundry for storyline missions. A fed can spend a few days making them. but we need SOMETHING to be able to get them.
yeah.
For some reason in the US now, there is 7.5 percent unemployement yet nobody wants to work at cryptic.
They have had those job openings on their site for months and no takers.
OR, they just aren't hiring. PWE put a stop to it.
Cryptic saying sorry for last year, and improvements for this year (but no plan) isn't real.

The difference is KDF got ever little since launch and not just 2011. I The difference is once again much was promised for KDF for 2011 but never happen.
Let see Season 4 where supposed to get
1. Klingons toturial and playing starting at level 1. Instead we got move to level 25.
2. We supposed to get Federation mission that were remaster for KDF play.. IE fed klingon mission redone to play for KDF side.. We got Zip while federation got 3 remaster missions.
3. We got 1 c-store uniform and several -store ship. Not ONE free shipping dispute having less ships then federation.
yeah.

That a little miss leading. My company been looking for Additions service that for steel measuring gauges since 2005 when I was hired. Today they hired 3 and we still looking. Probleme is people are not willing to do the job. Just because there people unemployed those not mean there skill or want to do that job
I would like a gorn colony in the omega leonis sector block because of the undine takeover of the gorn most of the gorn had to settle on a colony either space station or ground.
Gorn Bridge
Rura Penthe missions to stop prisoners escaping and by following tracks across the snow to find the prisoners insted of a big circle saying where they are and then you can explore the dilithium mines.
The Klingon faction could be so much more than what it is.
Cryptic needs to add meaningfull PVE KDF missions that tells a Star Trek story from the Klingons perspective.
Too true, if they wish to see those fans return in force to power the F2P engine, the KDF faction needs substance from level 1 to level 50+.
Federation built FE that Klingons will be able to play will not be enough and it never will be.
The FE's are fun and I enjoy them but some FE's from a primarily KDF point of view would be nice too. Then some from the Rommies PoV and then just some Agnostic FE's as well.
Hell at this point I'm willing to pay for a KDF expansion if it gives me a much better Klingon experience.
Too true. Two years is a long time to wait for PvE gameplay.
House intrique, High Council Intrique, The threat of Civil war, the return of the Hurq (w/ Iconian backing), The Undine hunt, the Orion induction into the KDF alliance, The Gorn and the nausicain and the Flipside to some of the Fed vs KDF missions would be great.
The Romulan Star Empire is ripe for conquest! Why are we not seizing this opportunity to deal with one of our most hated Blood Enemies Once and For All!!
They could do a series alone just on how this exploded into the current KDF versus Fed conflict and what we Klingons have learned about the destruction of the Romulan homeworld.
The Undine, these cowards mock us from the shadows; they seek to sow the seeds of fear and distrust throughout the Alpha Quadrant! Why do we not continue the Hunt for these Honorless DenIb Qatlh !!
same here.
The Federation, if these P'Tok are truly our enemies then why has J'mpok not ordered a full Offensive strike on the Sol system so we can rip out the very Hart of the Federation!!!
Intrique and specualtion could abound
I think it may be time for New Leadership in the Klingon Council!
Yes! we need a new Leader! a Leader that does not Fear conflict!!
Leader that shows no Mercy to the Enemies of the Empire!!
J'mPok may well be a tripod, and I don't mean becuase his ridges hang low.
A real queue system with the full runs of STF's and not these quick mash ups that get boring real fast. I was looking forward to doing the full Cure runs but I am 99% a KDF player
LG only BoP, raptor, carrier, and battle cruiser
(both sides) captured Romulan ships (would be store items)
(both side) a real battle ship class for captain and higher (would be store items)
A real PvP war zone based on PoTBS model in the Pi Canis, Regulas, Psi Velorum blocks - or two or three systems per map -especially since travel is almost obsolete.
A PvP flag so I can jump, and get jumped by feddies
A LOT MORE content. I love the KDF missions, but they are so few and so lowered level.
Remove that daft trans warp every where, and give us a bridge view or allow us to run around the ship when flying with stuff to do like crafting/replicating weapons, kits, and consumables. (I know old grip, and the fix of click and instant fligh takes away from the game - but then again, I expected PvP flags by now.)
Above all else, for the love of god, stop listening so much to the lifers - whose money are you trying to get?
Two years and still no Romulans? Hell, no real KDF either. What have you been doing? Besides caving to lifers that have not helped this game grow.
Basically, the changes might appear plenty, but, especially from the KDF side and PvPer side, they are not. This game has had two years to become so much more and still fails. Please do not get me wrong, I love this game, but when I left about 20 months ago, it was because devs - really management - listened to lifers and not us who subbed.
Before Lifers scream foul - the game would not have gone F2P if you were contributing enough finacally, and ideas that increased population. Not saying you caused this, but you really didn't help. I bet if I searched I would find tonnes of post saying F2P is fine, but I yadda yadda, and I want yadda yadda - basically sounding like bankers on Wall Street. BTW, 90% of the lifers in my KDF and SF clans have not been on since 2010.
the entire game got very little in 2011, not just the klingons. its not like there was hundreds of missions added and klingons got jack all.
But they kept saying more klingon stuff was on the way and how they have an entire team (of 1?) working on KDF content yet what happened? 2012 better be an amazing year for KDF.
Didn't we just get a bunch on new ships with some very powerful consoles? And the Klingon academy? And faction unique sets for both ground and space?
C-Store ships are not content. What the frak do I do with ships that are 20 levels below me that have no useful consoles either? Give me new content to level in and maybe I'll roll an alt and actually buy one. KA having DOFF missions is the only reaon I visit it. Gear is not content either.
At least I can grind DOFFs and STFs with my KDF characters. My short (for now) wishlist:
Orion, Gorn and Nausicaan bridges (even if only few).
Exploration revamp (not just for KDF).
Expanded Klingon Empire (why are we stuck in OL?)
Missions, missions and missions.
I'm with you Roach.
All Cryptic did was to hammer in C-Store ships and stuff.

I don't scream foul but I'd like you to actually give examples.
When?
Where?
To what extend?
And why are ideas from lifers supposedly less sophisticated and helpful than those from subbers?
Otherwise this is just unfounded bogus.
And I very much resent your generalizations and comparisons.

I'm a lifer and I've done only one constant screaming in the two years, Give us Klingon fans a fully fleshed faction so we might enjoy our aspect of the Star Trek genre that we Klingions fans have supported faithfully over the decades.
In the mean time I've spent plenty of money in those two years on STO, waiting against hope that teh Devs would strop following the fedfans like a lost puppy wanting a treat.
How did that bringing the game down?
Thankfully after such a long wait it appears that a light is at the end of the tunnel for us.
Here are some things I would like to see: On the Home Front:
Story arcs that show us better what it means to be klingon. Klingons are a dangerous species, and other posters have said it better: We need to not only see, but, become involved in the intrigues, politics, threats of civil war, and more!
The Gorn Homeworld, complete with a few story arcs to open our eyes to the lumbering, insightful, and decisive Gorn Hegemony. The Gorn are known for their slow and methodical method of decision making. Once they gird for war, they are 100% convinced that there is no other alternative, and then they commit to total war. This is something that we need to see in the game. Right now, the gorn are really kinda mythological in lore, when they should be solvent and solidly defined.
Ter'jas Mor, and the intrigues (and possiblly the depravities) of the Orion Syndicate. Melani D'ian went to alot of trouble to have Ramius killed and all of the non-orions either liquidated or shooed off. Theirs is an ancient culture whose knowledge of medicine and engineering extend into antiquity. In the TV lore, we saw how an archeologist made tremendous scientific breakthoughs for the Federation, based on what he found on Orion. Having some stary ars here would do much to sharpen the focus of exactly how the Orions and their Syndicate fit into the Klingon Empire.
Naussicans, and Lethians, and Trills! Oh, my! We know these species from the series, and we've played them in the game, but, really. Why are they here? Let's see some story arcs that bring these three species back into the gaze of our minds, and help us understand the value they represent to the Empire.
The Romulan Front The Federation has it, and we see it in the new opening movie with dialogue from Ambassador Spock that the KDF has it. Now, give it to us, with both barrels and a good dose of tenacious and treacherous entrenchment from those filthy romulans!
These things are what I would like to see this year.

Good list.
I'd like to add
Federation Front
"For some time now our war with the Federation has ground to a stalemate.
End this with a few decisive victories so our forces can gain momentum and we can finally establish a foothold in their space"
We need Breathing Room!
"Due to our protracted conflicts with the Federation and the Romulans and the reappearance of the Borg, we need new resources to sustain the war effort.
The [insert klingon sounding name] Sector is currently unexplored.
We must change that.
So you will be sent to map its available resources
-asteroids for minerals
-nebulae for energy production
-planets for both the above as well as living space and food production
Should you come across worlds that are populated you must subjugate them.
Bring those worlds under the heel of the Empire, make their population jeghpu'wI' so
they may serve us as an effective labour force.
Due to continued fighting on the other fronts we will only be able to send a limited number of ships into the [insert klingon sounding name] Sector so if you get into trouble you will be on your own for quite a while.
2012 will be just like 2011, 2010 and before.... little small additions to placate our fanbase and not much real PvE content.
We will continue to be blasted as being Op by the fed playerbase while they chew us apart in PvP and while the Devs explain to us that the KDF just doesn't have the numbers to justify its completion as a faction just yet, but they really want too.

Sad...but probably true....
I sure hope you're proved wrong, tho.

I sure hope you're proved wrong, tho.
As do I.
I do not like having to go through the game with the constant thought of being the redheaded child of the family that is STO. Unfortunately 2 years of this slow as targ snot progress ahs made me imbittered to the point of looking for a bench on Qo'nos so I can sit around like a sour old man and say thing like, " This chaffs my tuckus" and " Rot rot rot" while smoking a hand-rolled cigar.
I mean no offense I only wanted to point this out on the other foot.
Sad really. All the Fed explanations of Star Trek is Fed centric and KDF are bad guys and no one wants to play bad guys, oh and the 18% theory it all just goes out the window when you consider that other space MMO where the traditional, non-centric, but fully fleshed out, (content wise), baddie faction out populate the good guys on almost all of the PvP servers.
One speculative figure I read was that Reps are about 20% of the functional player base.
Make KDF content, make it right, and more than 18% of the players will play it.

That a little miss leading. My company been looking for Additions service that for steel measuring gauges since 2005 when I was hired. Today they hired 3 and we still looking. Probleme is people are not willing to do the job. Just because there people unemployed those not mean there skill or want to do that job
Gorn Bridge
Rura Penthe missions to stop prisoners escaping and by following tracks across the snow to find the prisoners insted of a big circle saying where they are and then you can explore the dilithium mines.
That sums up the whole employement issue in one sentence. The modern American worker no longer wants to work, they just want to be paid.
But they kept saying more klingon stuff was on the way and how they have an entire team (of 1?) working on KDF content yet what happened? 2012 better be an amazing year for KDF.
And anyone who doesn't believe this simply needs to spend 6 months in any other country and observe the natives to confirm it.
On the Home Front:
Quapla!"
We will continue to be blasted as being Op by the fed playerbase while they chew us apart in PvP and while the Devs explain to us that the KDF just doesn't have the numbers to justify its completion as a faction just yet, but they really want too.
/sigend. I'm with you Roach. Cryptic will frow us the one or the other bone and C-Store ship and that's it.
Sad...but probably true....
I sure hope you're proved wrong, tho.
They will also fix pvp.
The rest is cstore.
There will be no kdf/fed equality.
