Anyway, after patching does anyone else's launcher say:
I assume this will change tomorrow when they start sending out the emails.
Yes. You need to activate the launch code that you'll get via email. The time you pre-order determines when you'll start early access / get the launch code.

I think I preordered on day 2 so hopefully I'll get in tomorrow
I don't think it's fair...but whatever...I pre-ordered when I could afford it...so I more then likely won't see early access until like the 19th.....heheh
I can understand their reasoning for it. Star Wars is very popular, and Bioware is extremely popular, so they dont want half the planet trying to login to their severs several days early. lol I dont really want a repeat of Aion's preorder launch.
Btw.... several 10ites are planning to be in the Pride of the Empire TOR guild. I'll be playing sometime in a couple months I think; I'm avoiding the launch.

LOL. You think "first come first serve" isnt fair only because you werent first. Again, LOL I say!
LOL. You think "first come first serve" isnt fair only because you werent first. Again, LOL I say!
No. Honestly I found out about the first come first served before I pre-ordered. I know the whole time I'd get less time to play "early" hehe
In truth it really doesn't bother me. I don't have a problem with staggering...I just don't agree with rewarding the earlier pre-orders that much....Makes them "elitist" in some people's eyes. "I was here first...I deserve more then you" kind of TRIBBLE always appears...but meh. Whatever. I'll still be giving it a chance....It's something to do while STO has started to bore the snot out of me lately.
Still, upon first glance you wouldnt know it was set in the distant past unless you already knew the backstory. Because it doesnt look it. [...] The above ship was a great design, and is no where to be seen in SWTOR. They should have evolved around this design.
While I personally would have loved to have seen more designs like the image you posted, I also understand that BioWare had a certain aesthetic that had to be maintained. They were already locked into a general idea of what ships looked like around this time period, and since everything in SW is canon unless contradicted by the movies or television series, they were bound by precedent.
I think Bioware is one of the most over rated companies in the gaming industry. They released KOTOR 1 and ME 1, but thats 2.. 5 star games, the rest were hit/miss.
My first BioWare game was KOTOR, which I consider to be one of my favorite games of all time. I also loved Jade Empire, Mass Effect 1 and 2 (and thought Mass Effect Galaxy was pretty fun), and Dragon Age: Origins. So far the only game that's been a slight disappointment for me was Dragon Age II, but even that I enjoyed quite a bit.
I think it's pretty clear that the entire dev process was about creating a game that spoke to the traditional Star Wars mythos and environments. Trying to reinvent everything to be "brand new" and significantly altered in look and feel from the original trilogy and the prequels would just be a recipe for disaster.
Exactly, and the dev blogs that have been posted on the official site going back to 2008 make this very clear. There are certain aesthetics that are clearly associated with the Star Wars brand, which BioWare had to stay true to. Over the course of two weekends I spent about 28 or so hours testing out SWTOR, and it's going to be a fantastic game. It really is what BioWare has been saying it is - KOTORs 3 through 8.
I think the game has a lot of potential... but two things are currently putting me off.
#1: No 3D space combat.
With the legacy of excellent SW space combat sims they really REALLY dropped the ball by implementing the system they currently have instead.
#2: Cost
IMO $50 plus $15/mo is a bit excessive. I pay $50 for a new 360 game and it doesn't cost me a dime to play. I'm really having trouble swallowing $50 up front on top of the subscription cost.
If I end up with a decent x-mas bonus this year I'll probably run right out and buy it... otherwise I'll probably be waiting 3-6 months to see how things develop. Sad that STO has really ruined my desire to play PC games anymore.

While I understand the sentiments, I think it should be recognized how incredibly difficult it is to design a game that involves both a compelling space component and an equally compelling ground component.
X-Wing and TIE Fighter, for instance, had ZERO ground game elements. EVE Online, widely considered to be a great space game (although I've never played it) had no ground components at all until just recently.
And we all know the story with STO. Space combat is superb in almost every respect for the type of game, yet the ground game suffers tremendously.
For the majority of purposes in gaming, and in the Star Wars movies, the action was really what was going on around the people as they interacted on planets, and occasionally on ships. Space itself (apart from a few specific climactic battles) was really just part of the travel sequence from planet A to planet B.
In that respect, I can accept SWTOR for what it is at launch, a superb ground game, with what is actually an entertaining space minigame. That said, I expect BioWare will be increasing the space game over time, and they've already said they have a team already working on a "big" space project, but that it will be down the line before it is brought into the game.

And I do understand the cost factor, but when you think about it, for that $50 you are getting essentially 8 different story lines that you can play. Most of those 360 games you buy, you're going to pay $50 for just ONE of those stories.
There has been a LOT of effort that has gone into building these environments and systems, and I believe it readily shows over competitor games and their efforts. And while the subscription is a lot to ask for, I am pretty confident BioWare will be adding new content into the game at a pace quickly enough to make that monthly subscription worthwhile.
You all have fun. I will not be going to the SW: The Kids Republic again.
and STO is not for kids, the way things are going here i get the impression with season 6 they will add flying mounts that you can use on planets to bypass the combat because they are bleeding subs atm, F2P will save this game for a while, but then pretty much all new content will have to be bought.
I'm thinking each new season will end up costing the price of a full game by the time you have everything needed (content wise) from the cstore.
I would rather give EA/Bioware my cash than support a game that puts more effort in a cash shop than adding new content to a game that desperately needs it.
Season 6: all the content we have promised you since launch, but it will cost you an arm and a lag.......

I have been hoping for flying mounts from the beginning like many others have too. Rocket Boots!
But you still couldn't bypass the mission objectives using them.
As for "bleeding subs", no. that is totally untrue. have you even seen the sector space populations??
I have even had the pleasure of reuniting with several old friends who have returned to the game.
All content will indeed have to be bought thou... Just like with a subscription!! So nothing new there.

So... $10 then? Well that's cheaper than the $15 subscription! (you have to deal with VAT don't you?... ouch...)

Sorry you feal that way, but the development times are proof to the contrary.

I won't/can't disagree with you that several things that were "promised" did not hit the timeframe they had origanally gave us.
Hey guys, I took the liberty of starting us a thread over there for STO players in the community section. Since I am sure linking would be frowned upon, I will leave it to you fine folks to find it, but it is on the forums over there in the community area under local check-ins.
Its a great game, theres no doubt about that. And I'll definitely be playing it for the foreseeable future. But that doesnt change the fact that I also enjoy this game and will be playing it too
I was not able to preorder the game, but come the 20th, I should be in there or pretty darn close. I plan on running all 8 classes but will be starting with the Consular. I was able to beta test the game and I really enjoyed it. Can't wait to get in.
I'm still waiting for my invite on teh pre-start start, but until then, let's dig up the buried hatchet between Star Trek and Star Wars types and go after them Twilight types

I'll probably get in tomorrow or Thursday at the latest, thank the gods of Skyrim for a pleasant diversion in the meantime

Ohhh you mean deviantart. What was your ID again? ... Aha! I found it! Yes, I remember criticizing one of your submissions....
*awkward silence* :-|
I fix it! I make good comment to make up for it!

I want to play a togruta smuggler.
i expect ill play it casually. sto is still more fun to me.
The story starts off slow--at least on my Bounty Hunter. It picks up when you leave the starter planet though.
I wish I were included today.
