Winter event feedback: Red gifts should not drop Blues

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
I think I could stomach the luck-based grab bag a bit better if a Blue gift was not a possible drop for the Red gifts.

Considering how crazy rare it is to get a Red gift from the Winter Wonderland race, imagine the chagrin of a player who finally grinds one out only for it to -- surprise! -- become a Blue instead. As they say in Spaceballs, "FOOOOOOOOLED YOU!"

It's a slap in the face and a huge disapointment.

This is also an issue for the c-store Reds. After the first four, people spent real money on those. As much as I don't like Pay2Win, I find Pay2Lose even worse. It's not as though the Red gift drops don't already have boobieprizes; there's no need to have them downgrade to Blue's too.

[EDIT] ...In fact I would be willing to INCREASE the likelyhood of Blue gift drops by the same rate that the Reds give Blues to make up for it, just to be secure in the knowledge that the Red gift I worked so hard to get will STAY RED.

I can agree with that. I'm one of the lucky souls who got a free red drop from the race, but my gift inside was a bluey. That was kinda upsetting.

I would be willing to spend some of my real money If I knew that every red gift box was going to drop somehting other than a Blue gift.

I had 20 gift vouchers on all my Toons combined and 12 out of the 20 turned into blue boxes

I bought about 10 red gifts off the exchange and got 8 blue gift boxes

100% agreed, blue boxes should never have been added to list of possible drops for red boxes.

If cryptic does anymore of these grab bags in the future and the best possible pick up has the possiblity to drop a lower quality pick up, I'll not even waste my time with it no matter what the grand prize is

Actually, it's not as bad as you think, if you pay attention, it doesn't just drop a blue box, you get the blue box and a stack of the holiday trinkets, inside the blue box you still have a chance at the random gear and more trinkets. So unless you are obsessed with getting the Jemmie ship or those Horta, it isn't that bad, you still get extra trinkets to buy the other stuff, which is still pretty cool.

Oh yea i get a blue box out of my red aaaaand get a useless TRIBBLE too Yehaa. For the Chrismas stuff i get Cakes wohoo .... seriously thats only TRIBBLE u get. Blue Boxes only give u items they dont realy usefull or worth the money u spend for it ... XI Rare for my VA? I want some XII very Rare for my 18000 c i spend ...
oh or the ship ... 180 euro for TRIBBLE is way too many ... and yea im dump to spend so much.
1 positiv that turn in negativ is that they take my idea of giving the TRIBBLE back to a Trader but they dont give u some c (only 1/4 of spended c where enouth to cool down the peoples) for it like i said .... what should i do with crapy gold pressed Latinium... some holoemitters they have timelimit? .... i stop playing dabo after i see that i dont have the holos permanent.. was only waste of Metrits / Energy Credits.
But hey i have a LT so i farm my 400 per month and never spend any money here , good work Cryptic.

and yea i know thats useless to post ... they dont willing to give back digital money or something usefull but i feeling better (my way of cool down)

Thumpbs up for no blue in reds!

I don't have an issue with the items in a blue box. The issue I have is procedural. If you;re going to give us a blue anyway, just give us the blue box the first time and don't jerk us around thinking we might have landed a c-store item instead.

Indeed. Although I bought just 2 boxes it's just stupid that I got 2 blue boxes out of each which spawn just a usual item

actually that sounds exactly as bad as I think it does. if you pay money for a red box you should not be getting worthless 'trinkets' and items you can get in-game for free. thats bordering on a scam

i'll repeat what I said in another thread: customer goodwill is a finite resource that must be used carefully

I bought 2 x-mas boxes, but when I saw the 2nd turn into a useless blue box I immediately stopped doing so. :-s

The ship is really cool, but not *that* cool. One of my fleet mates went through 60 boxes before he got the ship, that kinda drop rate made me wary of even trying.

Agreed. The idea of a random drop bag is fine by itself.

Including blue boxes with the red boxes is outrageous and shameless. :(

These drops aren't random, why are people saying they're random, if there are 10 items that you could win, you have a 1 in 10 chance of getting an item you want, if you go through 50+ boxes and still don't get it then it's not random by any form of maths I know.

If it's a gamble and the item you want has very low odds then I believe it's outragous and illegal, does Crytpic have a gambling license? I think not. Also how many people here are under 18 and gambled with real money to get this ship?

The Doff packs p^&s me off, it says it's random and you'll win 1 rare or better doff, but in all the packs I've purchased I don't think I've ever recieved a better than rare, this isn't random, fair, legal or even honest.

I want to know what the % is of getting this ship, or even a very rare doff. Time to come clean Cryptic before someone issues a law suit against you.

Getting blue boxes inside the red boxes is extremely annoying.
The ship being rare is one thing but getting blue boxes full of useless garbage is really irritating. I sold some of the items to vendors because I had no use for them.

The doff packs I got out of red boxes, and the pets I have no complaints about. Just the blue boxes.

I have yet to get a red from the race, so mine were all cstore.

it's not like the addition of the blue box prizes somehow reduced the chance at a jemmie ship, it's just one of several possibilities. I've probably gotten more geklis and Hortas than blue boxes anyway, I don't see anyone complaining about those, the blue boxes aren't any different. When you play a lottery like this, you've got to think about more than just the bottom line.

Its very different because Gekli's are C-Store items with a monetary value.
Blue boxes give you absolutely zero value for the C-Points you spend.

Most grab bags of this nature always have a guarantee that you will recieve at least something of equal value to what you spent.

Yeah, I never got my stipend, honestly, don't really care, hate this grab bag blue box TRIBBLE to.. ofcourse the race red to blue doesn't bother me, only because I've never gotten a red from the race, 6 races a day from day one, I've gotten a total of 3 blue, the rest were green, atleast you get reds that turn into blues....... yeah, frustrated!

    Yeah, what the hell?

I've had a few red boxes from the event, but all but one have turned into a blue box. What the frick??

Who in their right mind wraps a gift, then puts that in another box and wraps it a second time?

The logic behind it is silly. Just give me a blue box straight out, and don't tease me.

Again, my issue is not the quality of prizes at the blue level. My issue is that the game showed me a red first and then said "Just Kidding! It's a Blue." The odds of gaining a prize are another subject entirely that I am not considering in this complaint. I would be happier simply if the Reds stayed Reds, even if it means seeing them less often.

You do give me an idea, though.

Hey, Cryptic! How about the Red boxes don't Ordinarily drop blues, BUT if it awards you a pet you already own or a XP boost when you're already at max level (et cetera) THEN and ONLY THEN it will generate a Blue. This way, it's more like a favor than a fake out.
