C-Store Sale Mechanic Fail

Right, so I'm not opposed to spending extra money for items in a game that I already paid for, and pay monthly for.

Highest level and only character is a Commander 8, so I log in today to find a sale in the store. Alas! 20% off, good time to snach up the ships that I'll eventually use, buy them all now while I got some extra cash and give me something to look forward to once I get the right levels to use them.

Log in, drop $64 on 5000 c-points, goto click buy on the dreadnought... err. wait a second! Unable to unlock the ship cause the character isn't high enough level yet?

So the only way to really get any value out of the sale on the high ticket items is to already have a leveled character, no "lay-away" option, and no warning for those who are new, and admittedly ignorant of how that store works.

And no refunds apparently. So none the less, Monday I'll just dispute the charges with my bank and see how it washes out, but I did need to vent that a sale which not everyone can participate in, or at least any clear statements of which, is a little silly and/or shady.

This is nothing new. It has always been this way.

Yeah despite some new UI changes to it, the c-store still needs quite a bit of work.

I shouldn't really need to logon to my VA in order to buy stuff i'm going to use for my current cpt level toon. Heck, half the ships i've bought still tell me i need to buy them until my current toon is actually eligable to use them.

Yeah I disagree with this aswell, I think you should be able to buy the items whenever you want but just keep them locked till your character attains sufficient rank. This really needs changed...

This should apply to anything, including purchase of ships with ship tokens and higher marks of gear than you are capable of equipping (which you can do in the exchange and crafting but not from emblem vendors).

Agreed ! Cryptic you need to make it so that we can buy all items regardless of level. Then it should be level bound after the purchase. It is convenient and just makes sense.

You have to pick a character on the website C-store and if that character is eligible then you can buy it if the character is not eligible then you are unable to purchase the item.

So I'm not understanding your complaint here.

You purchased c-store points without looking at the store..

You went to purchase a ship and found out that the system which has been in place for well over a year and a half now won't let you do it?

I can understand when it wasn't on the website so people blindly purchased points then to their surprise in game they couldn't get it but come on now.

I agree they should just be purchasable at any level but I've always looked before I bought any amount of c-store points. This way I know how many I will need and for what.

Just wait for the next sale when you get to that level. There might be one for Thanksgiving and there will almost definitely be one for Christmas.

Black Friday is indeed probably the next one if they follow the old routine.

I think his complaint is that it is not universally known nor clearly stated anywhere (I was not aware of this limitation either until I read this) that you cannot even buy/unlock via the C-store items for which your character is not qualified.

I looked at the (web) C-store just now, and nothing in the descriptions for various ships say that you cannot buy this ship until you are X level. If there is such limitation (which is a pretty stupid limitation IMO) then it should be clearly spelled out in the item description, and even clearly spelled out on the front page of the c-store.

This kind of thing gets Cryptic dangerously close to bait and switch territory.

You need to file a complaint with Cryptic and wait a reasonable amount of time for them to resolve the issue. Your bank is a lot more likely to settle the dispute in your favor if you can show that you tried to work with the merchant to resolve the issue.
