Why is the point defense console ship class specific?

I was extremely excited about the new Akria refit mainly because of the new point defense console, but as soon as I look at it it says escort only.

I have but one question....WHY???????

Other than this console the only other one I know of that is ship specific is the MVAM for obvious reasons.
Why would you do this? A lot of Captains of Cruiser and Science Vessels would love to have this in our ships.
Also historically point defense systems have mainly been associated with larger slower ships because they need them to their inability to maneuver. Even if you never change it which would make me very sad and disappointed can you at least explain why you chose to do this?

Edit: Looked and found out the anti-matter console is crusier specific, but my orginal question still stands. Why are you making ship class specific consoles? I would much rather have a PDS then anti matter spread.

The RI console is science ship specific. The devs have said that there will be more of these ship class specific consoles. They exist to provide some kind of balance, a counter to other specific classes or 'uber consoles' to coin a term. I like the fact that there will exist some kind of restriction on the C-Store consoles, I hope to see more of this type than the scramble TRIBBLE that is going on now.

The Nova console only goes on science ships, as pointed out, and I believe the antimatter spread on the Venture variant is cruisers only, so this is not a new development by any means.

I think only the Oberth so far has a console that can be used by any class, as it's basically just a glorified battery.

They keep saying all ships that have special abilities are going to have those turned into consoles. I do have to wonder what the restrictions will be for the Defiant-R's cloaking device. And whether we'll be seeing saucer-sepping Constitutions around Sirius.

Yeah, I'm all for balance. I wish the Nova console was able to be used on my Defiant, but oh well.

    Greetings from tribble,

the Cloaking Device's restriction is "Tac Escort Retrofit and Dreadnougth Cruiser"

So they're just going to gimp ships with special abilities by making them give up a console slot.

What was the logic behind that?

No, they are going to overpower them by adding console slots and turning them into Tier 5.5 ships.

Because they think "kewl" consoles will actually make ships squishy because escorts will give up sci consoles all day for special things, cruisers will give up tac or sci consoles all day for cool things, sci will give up tac consoles all day to have cool things that for the most part pay2win and they couldn't balance skills if you gave them Russian Gymnast and balance beam.
