Did I read correctly that there will be unique an stronger ships at each tier available in the C-Store soon? What happened to 'no game affecting items' in the C-Store Cryptic? What happened to 'only game affecting items that can also be earned in game.' What happened to the later position that 'available in game' really meant 'for an obscene amount of grinding or real world $$$? Seriously, I love your game, but could you please just stick to your word with the C-Store. (KEEP IT FOR NON GAME AFFECTING ITEMS! NO SPECIAL SHIPS!)
I almost quit when I saw the C-Store. I almost quit when I saw game affecting items in the C-Store. I almost quit when I heard STO was going F2P. I almost quit when I read Dev Blog #10. When will the slippery slope of P2W end...after the F2P switch? I have been critical, but tolerant and eventually accepting of each step to place the C-Store in an ever more central role to STO. How far are you expecting fans like myself to go before we give up on your money grab?
Lets see they have been sold to another company that embraces PTW and if you notice the main person to make that statement and could see that it was applied, is not working for Cryptic anymore.

Well, and now Cryptic gets to see if they can make you swallow another thing...
Why should they not try? It worked well so far with them. Some naysayers, sure, slowly growing in numbers with the changes - but not as fast as the income from the C-Store. The are just making a "smart" business choice.
But how many of us really dare to say that they will go? I haven't so far, despite being very disappointed with this. Once all settles down, and the final changes have been made, will I be able to walk away should I still not be able to buy these ships via in-game grind? Or will I just swallow this one as well, because I invested too much time, money and heart into this game as player?
on the plus side there is no real reason to pay for a sub after FTP launches, so you can just spend that 15$ a month on c points. (lifers get the shaft however)

Eh -- 400 points a month stipend seems sufficient to keep me from feeling shafted. And I don't mind shelling out for C-Store stuff when I like the looks of it. But I'm a weird case -- I didn't buy the Venture because of the improvements or the console, I bought it because I wanted to reskin my Dreadnought.
The big thing to remember, as far as the OP's questions go, is that the entire fundamental economic model for the game is changing. They're going from a system where paying into the C-Store paid for some nice flash and grum we wouldn't already get, to the C-Store being the vast majority of where their money comes from. Of course the base premeses of the C-Store are going to change as a result of that.
The question is whether or not the playerbase adapts and adopts said change. Some will, some adamantly won't, as with the other games out there that went FtP.
....I almost quit when .... I almost quit when... I almost quit when... I almost quit .
Practice makes perfect!
Ohh.... ya.... can I almost haz your stuff?
Seriously though.... I do expect more "money grabs" and do not see it as a "bad thing". We are really just trading one "money grab" for another. Business have to grab money somehow or there'd be no product.
I mean think about it, If they are going to loose say 40,000 (and the number has been reported as higher) monthly subscribers at $14.95/mnth then they are loosing $7,176,000 a year. To justify this they have to replace this income in some way..... and that's alot of ship skins!
I know it was not your decision for STO to go f2p, but many things happen in this world that to me that I did not ask for.....
I will likely stay (since I LT Subbed) after F2P, but I suspect the caliber of the players and of forum discussion will drop precipitously. Side Note : Has anyone else noticed that many Posters in these Forums have slowly, in many ways, became the Cryptic Defense Force?
Atari just wanted to make money so they sold Cryptic. Cryptic wanted to make money so they let PWE make some decisions that I am leery of, at best. There is nothing wrong with a company making money, but that must be balanced by servicing customers needs. Increasing the role of the C-Store was not rooted in customer request...it was rooted in greed.
Anything based on greed is very likely to get out of hand as ever increasing profits must be attained. Ever increasing profits in F2P games seem to create a virtual arms race to buy all the best gear. Of course, after buying all the cool toys, the game is too easy and those players leave. The real winner is Cryptic/PWE and guess who the poor suckers are? Us
most of the game changing items are a joke at best ams only effect cannon users, the pdt is just a weaker version of the per-order item with no range limit, the photonic distraction is a joke as well but good if use correctly. the klinks have two but only one so far is the game changer and the most useful than any other "PTW" consuls. So Cry some more on ships that are not op , oh so additional boff slot is op right:rolleyes:, "ptw" items are for weak fool who want to win but still suck.
Well, you say pay to win all the time but if you bother to take a look at it, the actual performance difference between a c store ship and a standard run of the mil ship are pretty slim.
Simply put: placing your TRIBBLE into a c store ship does not make you a winner.
Lets see they have been sold to another company that embraces PTW and if you notice the main person to make that statement and could see that it was applied, is not working for Cryptic anymore.
They were empty words when he said it anyway.
The new management just isn't bothering with the smoke and mirrors anymore.
Don't tell me you never considered this to happen. It will happen, it does happen.
Deal with it. Move along.
in life there is always more than one way of dealing with changes that displease you. The default action is not accept whatever happens and just move along. I prefer to protest in the off chance that I may be heard and stem the tide of STO becoming Star Trek : The C-Store. That being said, perhaps you could take your own advice and deal with my words here and...move along?

Have you noticed how some of the postive and optimstic voices have turned more snarky and disappointed?
I started out cheerfully optimistic 2 years prior to launch. I became warily skeptical. Then I became openly critical. Now I am somewhat bitterly disappointed. The problem is that returning to cheerful optimism at this point would seem to be naive of me at best. So when I see a post saying, everything will be alright...I can think of little else than the poster being overly optimistic and naive given Cryptic's track record with STO. But other posters are always free to ignore the facts and pretend it is all good, their choice. I just think that is silly.

This should be interesting.........
Not allowed to speculate further here though, Forum Guidelines do no permit it.
