Rear Admiral grindfest = FAIL

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
I decided to give the discount tokens they put in for new ships at rank up a chance, and this is what i arrived at.

New Ship at Commander was tolerable.
New Ship at Captain was annoying.
New Ship at Rear Admiral Lower Half was bloody intolerable and FAIL required me to get 10k more dilithium.

Yay I ranked up to Rear Admiral 1, cool give me my ship so i can continue playing and leveling... wtf? you mean i not only have to grind for HOURS to get enough dilithium? I also have to wait an entire DAY or MORE because i can only refine 8k dilithium a day?
Yeah.... its total BS.

Now when I play casually I usually only do a couple of dailies a day and a few other activities, that means the time it would take me to get a new ship would be anywhere from a few days to a BLOODY WEEK
A week of my time wasted on a grind, no story progression, no leveling, nothing but a grind in a gimped ship!
I also hate being forced to grind, i hate exploration and i hate 75% of the REPETITIVE dailies.
GIVE US BACK OUR FREE SHIP TOKENS ALREADY!

Seriously, this nonsense has to stop already, with this the game is no longer FUN.
Either put back the free ship tokens or drasticly raise the refinement cap and make ALL missions give dilithium.

they wont do that because soon they will have c-store ships at every level. You will be given a choice: grind for a week or spend $ at the c-store:rolleyes:

Yeah, but remember, that does not work, because the C-Store ships don't allow you to complete the promotion missions.

I had zero issue getting my ship at RALH, personally. I even had several thousand dilithium left over too.

Still could do with more dilithium though, obviously.

You guys are wrong I'm sorry to say and not paying attention. I got a Feddy commander sitting on 50k Dilithium right now. Go do your daylies. DO you academy stuff, and do your exploration DOFF missions. .. for that matter, just go do your DOFF missions. Now my Fed VA is Borked because she was my first toon. I want to send all her DOFF's off to the commnader and delete her to restart her. Made a bunch of mistakes when I created her, and made VA before the first patch was out. I have no idea why theres not more VA's running around.

quit grip'n and get to mov'n.. Ya know, it could be worse, you could be playing KDF..

    oh wait..

    I'm being mean..*sigh!*

My KDF is LT General and is flyng the Vorcha retrofit., and all of the ship weapons areMk XI Purples, with Mk XI Blue consoles..And the full Aegis set.... Crafting ya know... Kinda hoping that the next C-store stipernd is nuff to get the Vorcha refit if its made availible next patch.. if its not I'll prolly blow it on the KDF Academy uniform pack and more DOFF packs.
And my ground combat gear is also all Purples.. Just started doing STF's today... now THATS grinding.. gonna puruse the forums and see what the low down is on getting the elite gear.. its NOT obvious and i want the KDF Honor Guard set so bad I can taste it. both space and ground.. Not seeing the right kind of Salvage drop and I want to know why. And if a crummy old non "leet" ROLEPLAYER like me can do it... then it should be aesy mode for you leet types..

I'm calling BS on you, sir.

Have had virtual NO problem getting ships at level up while doing almost NO grinding. So, I'm saying that your full of TRIBBLE.

THAT...and all the options for getting dillitheum is not even in place yet. So, your whining about an 'imagined' issue which will be greatly alleviated by the time the game leaves beta.

Additionally, your "solution" of leaving the token in sucks. I'm sitting on token in holodeck that will never get used. I would much prefer a currency that can actually be used for something should I decide that I would rather have a ship off the c-store.

...AND skill points are rediculously high on Tribble for fast progression for testing purposes. Once, the right amount of skill points are rewarded you will naturally accumulate all the dillitheum you need for ship purchases.

Guy...you want a game with NO grinding, go play solitaire.

Then you are alone, because it seems to me that the vast majority want the Ship tokens back in.

Additionally I'm sure you have dilithium from doing your dailies and your exploration missions like a good little boy.
But i personally do not enjoy doing them, and until now nobody ever "forced" me to.

Like i said, free ship tokens "OR" have ALL missions reward dilithium.

In addition, any system that allows for ANY possibility of getting snagged so you cannot progress normally is horribly flawed, and an 8k dilithium refinement cap does just that.
I shudder to even think of what mess Vice Admiral will be once its fixed.

The problem is that Cryptic has locked down the missions so much, the game is no longer fun. Even exploration missions to get dilithium are locked down to a 24 hour timer which seems to be an intentional push to the CStore to just not have to do the damned things. There are other issues as well but I think that is what the OP is lamenting.

    This ^

I do play several games that have grind elements do them, however STO refreshingly was not one of those games that forced any kind of grinding in order to advance.(Klingon faction excluded).
I also do not mind grinding for the best and most powerful equipment in the game, what I do mind is when it becomes forced upon you in the normal progression of the game.

I just hit RALH half an hour ago, bought the T4 Intrepid, and had enough to get my RALH Trident, and i gotten any Dilithium except what i received in ranking, and one exploration. I still have over 20,000 left.

Not everyone plays on Federation Characters.
Plus Dilithium payouts were much much higher before the discount token.(as was the cost)
I myself have like 70k left on my Fed character after leveling through the DOff system in a Nova and reaching Captain.(because i missed out on the Commander discount token)

My Klingon however is dead in the water because of this failure.

1100 refined dilithium from STF's no limit on repeats, takes less than 10 mins each.
    1100 refined from mirror feature
    1440 for each explore daily
    488 for trailus (sp?)
    488 shamir
    3000 from SFA feature
~edit~ theres also 1440 up for grabs doing 3 foundry missions daily, that I forgot about.

I find it hard to understand why you are having problems getting enough dilithium at max rank.

Everyone knows that getting refined dilithiums for missions is a bug right? According to devs, we are supposed to be getting Dilithium ORE which we can turn into refined dilithium (limit 8,000 per day). Only way in the future to get refined dilithium is to rank up or refine the ore.

I hadn't heard that, but I would not be surprised in the least to find out it was true. I guess we have to see what the silent majority has to say about it, oh that's right, the silent majority is silent 'cause they can't be bothered to take an actual interest.

Unfortunately, they probably can't be arsed to deal with the Dilthium system on Tribble.

The biggest mistake Cryptic is making in this beta is the way it's running. This is a self selecting environment, in research this is a hideously serious methodological flaw. Sometimes you can't avoid it, but it's still a problem.

Basically self selection means individuals opt in to the research, meaning you have no control over who they are, and it indicates they have prior interest in the subject. If you're researching something that only applies to a very narrow group of individuals, then self selection is somewhat acceptable.

Anyway, how this relates to STO is as follows. It's been, what, eight or nine months since we got any new content, so anyone still subbing is either a) very strongly committed to the game, or b) relatively new to the game. Of those, players who are veterans are more likely to participate in the F2P test (I'm guessing here, but it is a reasonable assumption).

Meaning, Cryptic is drawing it's information primarily from a group that is predisposed to accept more of this than a new customer is. We've seen "projections of how a new customer will react" elsewhere on the forums, though to an extent most of us aren't really qualified to make those assessments. At the same time, with this structure, as the game is now, I can't see the appeal for someone to burn time in the game when they could be playing anything else.

Additionally, I'm a little worried that most of the players who are hitting this will be game veterans who already know how most of the parts of the game fit together. How a green player is supposed to be able to find dilithium, when they've never been given any from the episodes they've been run through. And when they're told to go do a cluster mission (at present), they'd be routed to a mission that wouldn't grant dilthium.

    Snip.

Cryptic has also not been notoriously good about explaining things to new players, sometimes that is part of the fun but not in this particular game, in this particular genre. They seem to be forgetting that casual gamers tend to want more explaination than hardcore mmo players and they don't really seem to be catering to either anymore.

Pfft, you guys are lucky. I've got a char who was at VA before this went down. She's got no discount token. She's sitting on 130,000 refined dilithium and is 70k away from a RA level ship. Still flying my cap level defiant getting blown the TRIBBLE up by every enemy under the sun.

mine is too Kerrus, I haven't a shot of getting a VA ship either. Doesn't matter since this testing isn't much fun so i don't really need one to do DOFF stuff.

So, is the complaint about KDF characters specifically, or *all* characters?

Based on my play, I'd have to do 2 Nebula missions (or one nebula and one community) along with the promotion dilithium to get my Cm ship after LC. I'd have to do 2 nebula *and* one community (along with my promotion stock) to get my Cp ship. If experience wasn't accelerated for missions right now, I'd have been doing them as I leveled up anyway for the experience, so I'm not seeing *any* additional grind currently.

Take a look at our join dates boy. We have been in this game since beta and launch. what cryptic is doing now is TRIBBLE over everybody. No free ship token at rank up, dilithium needed for just about everything, no respec token at rank up, grinding needed to get the amount you're screwed out of to get your next ship at rank up, overpriced gear at all ranks when at the old mark/badges prices are more affordable at all ranks, etc.

The 'majority' don't like the changes and your 'majority' is actually the 'minority'. You newbies know nothing about what works and doesn't work in this game. The players that have been here since Beta and launch do. If Cryptic was smart, they'd listen to their older players.

Cool. Clearly we need fewer opportunities for dilithium then, if it's so easy for you! Thanks for bringing that to Cryptic's attention. ;)

I'm a lot less concerned about this than I am about ranking up lower levels. The transition from Captain to RA ship is a lot less of a big deal than it is at Commander or Captain, and STO has a hard enough being compelling enough to retain players. This sure isn't gonna help keep people around.

Yeah, but remember, that does not work, because the C-Store ships don't allow you to complete the promotion missions.

Promotion missions have nothing to do with ranking up. On Holodeck, you rank up with skill point spending. On Tribble, you rank up automatically.

Promotion missions don't gate any content and have nothing to do with being promoted.
