It has been officially revealed that Ferengi, Tellarites, and Pakled will become free-to-play species when Free-To-Play launches.
Those three species are still offered on the C-Store at present after this announcement and there is no visible disclaimer in the C-Store to alert customers that these races will be freely available in the future.
It is my belief that Cryptic needs to notify C-Store customers that they do not need to purchase these races unless they want them right now.
I believe that there is an ethical obligation to make this disclaimer at the point of purchase rather than burying the information in a forum post or news item that the customer might not read. Otherwise, these races should be pulled from the C-Store until such time as they are free or a disclaimer is possible.
What is Cryptic's plan to resolve this situation in the immediate future?
Cryptic is a company. As such the only obligation they have is to make profit.
Consider yourself dealing with a good Ferengi. Want to win? You've gotta pay for it. Want something special? You've gotta pay for that too. The special might become free later down the road, but if you want it now you've gotta pay for it now.

Fine. Make your witty comments. Boost the post count, by all means. I'd love to see this topic floated to the top.
This is not Ferenginar and "Caveat Emptor" is not a business plan.
EVERYONE is morally accountable for their decisions in how they treat people, businesses included.
When you're on the other end of that "Buyer Beware" sale, see how you feel about accountability then.
No, this is Earth and "There's a sucker born every minute."
Nobody is morally accountable for anything if they don't want to be... and Buyer Beware is called that for a reason.
Make your own decision, you have the right to do that. If you don't like Cryptic's business practices then vote with your wallet and move along.
If you learn anything from watching all those seasons of Trek it should be that nobody has the right to go around imposing their moral and ethical standards on anyone else.
I find it sad that people think a company has no ethical obligations.
To the OP, I agree with you and find it disappointing that this has yet to be fixed. But on the optimistic side, I'm hopping Cryptic is keeping track of these purchases and plans to give full refunds in Cryptic Points to those who bought them after the announcement.

That's because any company that wants to make money doesn't have time for ethical obligations. Don't believe me? Two words: Medical industry. I rest my case.

Sad as it is, most of these "supercorporations" have come to the understanding that they can make more money by not giving two .... about their customers.
We're changing the C-store descriptions of these items to reflect the upcoming changes. As far as I know, this should be done VERY soon. In the mean time, what we're doing is making sure it's communicated as best we can.
Thanks,
Stormshade
So it looks like Cryptic is going to do the right, ethical thing.
N/M, apparently you noticed it too while I was posting this.

Remember, nice guys finish last.
I think you learned the wrong lesson from Trek. The real lesson from Trek is that all decisions have moral implications. Remaining silent in the face of injustice is a moral decision with bad consequences.
A thief may choose to reject accountability and still wind up in jail.
"Buyer Beware" is not a license to do whatever you want to sell something. It is a word of wisdom to remind people to know who they're dealing with when they part with their money.
And I did vote with my wallet. End of Sub is ticking off the days as I type. Now I am exercising what freedom of speech remains to me.

yes but you do realize even the medical industry understand the TERM "you cant collect pay from a dead man!"
I have not bought anything from the C store since I was ripped off on the Intrepid Bridge pack, they are free to act as they so wish, but I am also free to never buy anything from the C store again. Should they practice good business ethics? Not for me to say, but their actions will have an effect on people they depend on to keep those profits rolling in.

makes me wonder if the Rules of Acquisition were made by Doctors.
Rule 111, Treat people in your debt like family ... exploit them.
Rule 125, You can't make a deal if you're dead.
Rule 74, Knowledge equals profit.
if they died in order to avoid paying, what makes you even think their families could afford much less care enough to pay you instead. even a fgeringi realizes profit cant overpower the finality of death.

You didn't pay a lot of attention if you somehow missed all those Starfleet captains imposing their moral and ethical standards on every lifeform that they happened across...
I hope they plain to use some kind of unlocking format like a quest, accolade, Leveling you ambasder rank etc. for the new races but felt the should have noted that the Hotra all have the same cooldown and that you BOFF cant use them.
Seems the C-Store is still selling these species without a disclaimer. They had time to put in the Venture Class into the C-Store but didn't have any time to change the description for the species. I am rather disappointed Cryptic, not surprised, but still disappointed.

This is the internet. Welcome. Please leave your ethics by the door on your way in. You may pick them up when you leave.

Me, I never bought any of them. I have no vested interest, except in judging whether this company is worth giving more money to.

I'll add a few, if I may.

While I will wait to see when it actually happens, it does go a little way toward restoring my faith in the company.
