I'll reign in my unending torrent for bile for gallant and vigilant class starships, and move straight on to some ideas I'd like to see.
I've never seen a fan design for a refit Defiant... Ever. So the only thing I can do is point to a few pretty neat pieces of concept art they pumped out while conceptualizing the vessel originally.

I'm sure you can see at least one vessel design there that was drawn on to design a ship or two already in STO.
Anyone else have any ideas of what they'd like to see?

Now you have! Mind you, I never really finished it because the files became corrupted... dissapointing.
The others look almost Star Wars / BSG - like.

I hope the costume they release is somewhat better...

I've got a copy of Starship Creator Deluxe sitting on the shelf here. I'd gladly send it in if it lead to some of the designs being published.
The same reason components from Star Trek Armada, Fleet Command, etc didn't make it in. Legal reasons. Copyright, trademark, whatever the case may be. It's much more trouble and money to get something from those games than it is to make a new design.
I agree that is would be nice if these were added. To bad copyright infringement issues prevent it.
Unfortunatly, copyrights last for 50+ years, and the heirs of some classic novel authors are trying to extend that so as to continue to profit. Pathetic, really. After all, immitation is the sincereist form of flattery.
Copyright in the U.S.A. for works created since 1978 currently last for 70 years following the death of the individual author. If a corporation is the author it's 95 to 120 years from publication or creation.
While heirs of authors are certainly interested in continuing to profit, Disney Inc. is the #1 copyright lobbyist last time I checked. The day the mouse becomes public domain is the day the world changes. And you can bet it won't all be flattering.
You are correct on both accounts(after the author's death and that darn mouse). I may have got my numbers crossed. With some things in the world, there is a point where copyright and patent protection actually kills development. While I am not going to discuss the merits of copyrights, patents and trademarks, I will agree that not all countries feel the same way.
I love the Defiant more than anyone. But I'll tell ya, check out how it looks. Keep everything Defiant, but change the hull to Gallant. BAM! 3rd impulse engine. I think it looks awesome. That's what I keep mine as.
Awesome, don't you concur?
