So how do we get our first batch of Duty Officers? Do they just appear at a certain level, is there a mission?

You get a mission, sort of like how you occasionally get bridge officers, but you get 15 all at once.

You get your first batch of duty officers at LC2, a set of 15 of white and green quality.
I'm not sure if it's a random selection or a fixed starter deck of sorts, but there you are.
You can get additional duty officers by doing recruitment assignments on earth spacedock or the academy, for example.

So far I really like the system. The passive bonuses the active roster grants are funky and interesting,
and while the assignments have all the excitement of watching paint dry, every time the countdown reaches zero
    you get a little something-something ^^
And the duty officers really have a slight feeling of trading cards. Just too bad that we won't be able to
    collect a full set....
(all, what? six thousand of them... yeahyeah i'll stop right there...)

    Hi.
Since i have no idea where the apropriate Tribble Feedback Thread is, ill just dump this here.

I just got my first rank up in Diplomacy on the F2P Testserver.

The moment that happened a Caitian remote Contact window appeared and had a Buy/Sell window for duty officers, specifically KDF races (Gorn, Nausican etc).

Since at this very moment several windows popped up simultaneously, i accidentally closed that window.

And that appears to have been a great mistake. I cant find this contact anywhere anymore. I checked Ambassador Sugihara and just about any other contact.

It appears this contact hasnt been implemented yet, so if u do not interact with it, the moment u rank up, u rare officialy screwed -.-

This has to be fixed. If for example i rank up to ambassador on holodeck but do not want my exchange officer that very moment, i can claim it at a later date.

This should be implemented here too, before this goes to holodeck.

It does seem insanely slow, and on the whole people dont have patience for heavy grinding, but the problem with the grind is prevalent with many of the new changes. Dilithium? Now its a huge grind as well to buy anything, people are STILL using low level ships at commander and above because of the grind.

The NGE ruined SWG, and this is smelling an awful lot like a NGE, these changes are sweeping and substantial, and will change the way the entire game is played, and not for the good. Appearances are important, and the fact is the hardcore type of player who loves grinding is in the MINORITY.

it is slow because its meant to be played over many months, maybe years. im not even sure id call it a grind as its stuff that happens in the background to improve your ship. all you do to do is click some buttons and let them go about their business. it only adds stuff and does not take anything away and is not required to play the game. people who like micromanagement will probably be quite happy with a system that takes a long time, if people dont they can totally ignore it or use it sparingly.

when you start off you get like 8 or 10 duty officers. you can get up to 100 and more assignments unlock as you go so it will get quicker and quicker as play it more.

same with dilithium, the system is not fully there. most missions are not giving the correct rewards yet so you cant base an opinion that its a grind or that its bad when its not fully working yet and the leveling process has been increased to get people to higher ranks faster for testing purposes. its too early and we dont have all the facts.

How come duty officers are allowed to go on solo away missions? I thought that was against Starfleet regulations.

i dont think its a law, just a guideline, like captains cant go on away mission but they often do.

although for this its really just for game means, so you can have more duty assignments going at once.

Safety plays a role, too. The one officer assignments I've seen are mostly very low risk ones deep in friendly territory, and a lot are worded like they're joining or being joined by other teams.

Edit: Going to add a couple interface suggestions:

Drop the Common/Uncommon designations. It adds a bit of confusion, since it's separate from the color, and aside from the difficulty of getting specific races aside from Human it doesn't play a role in the system. Having rarity and quality not strictly linked isn't bad, I actually like the way the system does it, but I don't think the player really needs to see it.

Put rank pips in the small doff boxes when you're setting up assignments. As far as I can tell, rank is at least loosely tied to quality, and it'd be consistent with the way most other characters are identified for rank to show up in there somewhere.

Another suggestion: Put a countdown or at least the time for the next assignment change somewhere in the system.

I also encountered this problem. YOU ARE NOT ALONE. Though when I tried to collect my uncommon DOff it said I had no room. What? It says I have a compliment of 9/100 available. I hadn't yet figured out how to dismiss a crewmember but I'm guessing at LC you're only allowed to have 15 DOffs total?

No, you can have more. It should be noted though that when you claim the DiploDOff that it goes directly into your active roster instead of reserves, which is a little weird, but it's there. Did you already have all (5) of your space active roster filled?

I did but I removed him and it still wouldn't let me collect it.

I just hit LtC last night and started messing with the DOff system. I barely touched on it and I can tell right away that I'm gonna love playing micromanagement. As a big fan of strategy games and CCGs, this adds a depth to the game that I have been waiting for, and it's something unique that I have yet to see in any MMOs that I've played to date.

Noticing that many assignments aren't give commendation exp at all. Is this intended or is there a bug in the system?

When assigning doffs to a mission, it would be nice if it was easier to see which of the traits they have that would affect the outcome better, as It is I've been moving them over to the slot to see what shows up as green/red to see if they're good for the mission.

There's an at the lower right (I think) of the individual DOff box that you can click on. It expands the selected DOff so you can see their traits.

The Duty Officer Store that pops up when you reach a Tie doesn't show what the diffrent Duty Officers are, when I were holding the arrow over them they showed the same thing so I thought I was picking a Tac or Securtiy DOff and I got a Doctor, it would be an idea to take a look ad it.

I know about that, and I do believe right clicking on them opens it up as well.

The main traits are listed as icons on the upper right, but if those were colored on the doff lists like they are in the places you can slot them it would be a bit easier to see which doffs fit the missions better.

Heretic I have some questions for you.

    1. What is the Request Duty Officers window meant to be used for, ad the moment it seems like it's just empty space.

    2. How do you get the prisoners, I know I read somewhere that you get them in missions, but is it Captain missions or Duty Officer Assignment missions, and if it's Duty Officer Assignment missions which once, Espionage or Military would be my guess but it would be nice to be 100% sure.

And please lower the Sickbay time, 3 days is way to much time, I have never seen a Starfleet officer stay more then a day max (Except in very special cases and then it's mostly BOs).

It also seems that recruitment takes a long time, any specific reason for that?

Heretic posted down in the tribble forums that an upcoming patch is reducing sickbay time (as well as a lot of assignment durations apparently).

The recruitment delay is probably a gating mechanism, but I really hope it's one of the assignments being lowered.

Happerned to me. I didn't choose the officer while in the store. Instead I windowed out of game to check the web and when I windowed back in Ithe store tab had vanished without me chooseing my reward.

The Request Duty Officers window will be a C-Store gateway for duty officer packs.

Recruitment does take a while; it is a gating mechanic to avoid the market (since these will be available on the Exchange and the C-Store) from being completely glutted with homeless would-be candidates. Right now, since both of those avenues are unavailable, it makes the overall availability on the tight side of things.

Prisoners can be gained on critical successes for some Military assignments (mostly military offensives, if I recall correctly) and Klingon Marauding assignments. There are a couple of Espionage assignments that also provide prisoners as well, I believe.

Hmm it seems that I'm not able to use my Colonists in Any Officer slots, they just don't show up in the window where you choose Doffs.

It seems that it's the Science amd Explore Assignments that won't let me ad Civilians/Colonists.

that sounds like its working as intended to me as they are not any officers of your ship they are just people who are tagging along. sometimes you need a colonist or a diplomat for specific missions but they should not be going on standard missions on their own.

You are able to use colonists for the "any officer" slots on trading missions, and some diplomatic review whatever missions.

The next data push will be closing a lot of those loopholes. It was never intended that you could use Colonists for non-Colonial assignments.

That will make alot of my Doff useless as almost over 50% of my Doffs are colonists, well I guess I could always reassign them to HQ.

Btw should you be able to use colonists for Trade assignments?
