I purchased the Lifetime Subscription. I have played many MMO over the years and the lifetime is the best way to go because I don't have a ton of time to play. With the lifetime I don't have to feel like I am not getting my money worth if I can only play a few hours a month. Sometimes I go a whole month without having time. Then other times I play for many hours in a single week.
Anyway, I have 6 kids. 3 of them would love to play STO. I would like to get lifetime subscriptions for them as well, but almost $900 is just too much.
What are the chances of getting a family pack lifetime subscription for a lot cheaper?
I'd say, "Zero." You have to consider that you are only paying for about two years of gametime, but after that two years is up you don't have to pay again.
There is no real reason to give a discount. I have two lifetime accounts, and I gladly paid full price for them both.
You get what you pay for, lifetime access to the game for a single price. You will never have to pay a monthly fee again, ever, for as long as the game is online. If that is five years, you are getting a major discount already. Even at three years it's a nice discount.
There is no logical reaon to give another discount. I honestly was very surprised they even put the lifetime accounts on sale like they do.
If you kids are like mine...they wouldn't play enough to even warrant paying that price in the first place. Get them 3 months of playtime, see how much time they spend on it. If they are like most kids I know, when they hit max level and run out of new stuff to do, they will quit playing anyway and you wasted all that money for nothing. They shouldn't have any trouble hitting max level on a full roster of characters in three months.
If they do...are they even old enough to be playing?
I am somewhat in favor of having a family account. My recommendation to cryptic is for a primary account "head of household" and paying a nominal fee to have subordinate accounts tagged to it. The fee would be for each subordinate account attached. The primary account would be responsible for all c-store transactions. The subordinate accounts would get access to uniforms, items and the like gained from the primary, but could not make c-store purchaces on its own. Any purchaces for extra character/ship/costume/BOFF slots would be allocated by the primary account. Just an idea.
Basically, you are asking for a lot more for free then. If you had, say 3 accounts, they are linked like you suggested. You buy an item in the C-Store, but all three acounts get it. That means you are getting 3 for 1 on each purchase. Also, you get more character slots, which everyone else has had to pay for.
You can have those three accounts now, as you'd still have to pay a monthly fee for them, so I don't understand why you'd need them parented like you suggest.
You would be getting tons of stuff for free from the C-Store this way, when you break it down, and that just isn't going to come out fair in any way.
