Now that I think more about the Oberth Class as a complete vessel; wasnt its reason for being added to the MMO to help fill the gaps that were found in the variety of vessels that were available to us in the early game?
Why now is the T2 vessel being sold in the C-Store?
Will there be an in-game method for new player or those rolling alts to acquire the Oberth?
In reflection perhaps a better rout to take with the Oberth would be to add the vessel itself in-game as a free ship like the Miranda without the Special console.
The console itself can be added to the C-Store has part of some kind of energy boosting pack that includes the Red Matter Capacitor and some other type of short term power boosting item that only adds power to weapons and engines.
Everything... EVERYTHING is a potential c-store item now. You do realize that with the exception of releasing the Foundry on holodeck, everything that has been released/talked in the past two months about is a c-store item. Take a look at the calender if you want confirmation.

That's the worst possible suggestion - literally buying power in the C-store.
Which this is, anyway, and it disgusts me, especially given the long, grueling fight to get the max-tier ships off C-store only status and hold Cryptic to their word.

Yep, so much for the statement that only none beneficial items will ever be in the c-store.
Of course it will probably be available in game for a stupid ammount of grind time.
I guess the point behind the Oberth is the same as the NX and Connie...to allow people to have another "vanity" ship that's fairly useless at upper tiers, but nifty to fly around in. It might be slightly more useful at tier 1 in PvP vs. Klingons, because it has the cloak detection abilities. The Miranda and Connie are useless against a tier 1 BoP.
The console, on the other hand...would be useful if you had it, but not worth the money if you don't want the ship.
I understand T5 tiers being in the C-store, but not T1 - T3. The whole point of new ships was to beef up the already stagante line of ships available. Oh well, I guess they do that through the c-store

To be honest the only ships that should be in the c-store are costumes. I am a lifer, but I would be incredibly peed off if I paid a monthly sub and whole new SHIPS where added to the c-store.
And to those who are going to tell me they can be earnt in game, please dont bother, the grind time is so long as to make it pointless. And considering the lack of content the game currentyly suffers from, new ships should have been added for free as a THANK YOU to a loyal playerbase.
Well that can of worms has already been opened and chewed over, but I have to say my bit

Ive got no real problems with any item besides vessels being added to the C-Store.
I think Cryptic shot themselves in the foot when they made the statement that no real game play altering items would ever find its way into the C-Store.
Id love for all new vessels to be added to STO has free in-game items without the need to grind emblems for 60+ straight days to get them.
It would be nice if there was someway for Cryptic to show us how the additional revenue that the C-Store is generating is being funneled, if at all, back into STO.
Hate it or love it, Micro Transactions and MMOs now go hand in hand.
In the past year Ive spent about $40.00 in the C-Store, I pickup up the Galaxy X, a Star Cruiser skin, a bunch of new costume packs and the Tribble of Borg.
I do agree that no new vessel should ever end up in the C-Store (the X included), all vessels should be obtainable in-game and I should not need to grind 60+ days to get them.
Part of me wishes that Cryptic had never made that statement about never adding game changing items to the C-Store because I knew it would be impossible to avoid.
Nearly every item in the C-Store now is game changing.
I must state that I felt bad about admitting that I bought the X from the C-Store, 1st because I felt that I should not have had to pay extra to it and 2nd because I knew that I was buying a game play altering item that Cryptic stated would never be found In the C-Store.
A person or in this case a company is only has good has their word; I live by this.
I understand the money is money and it does make the world go round and the C-Store is a great source of additional revenue for Cryptic and Atari.
I dont view the C-Store has the root of all evil; I see it has a necessity.
Id love it if Cryptic released a statement somewhere along these lines:
From now on no new Vessel, Space or Ground, will ever be made available via the C-Store; however, we will be periodically adding various new items to the C-Store for purchase.
Outside of the C-store selling Vessels, I never really had any problems with it.
My real problem is that no one from Cryptic ever came out and apologized for misinforming many of us about the types of items that would be made available to us via the C-Store.
If a future item that I want becomes available in the C-Store, Ill most likely buy it; however, if Cryptic would admit that they were wrong about what items would be available in the C-Store, Id buy it guilt free.
Yeah, I gotta be honest, I am quite underwhelmed by the console from what I've experienced on Tribble. It seems like something that would just take up space, in place of a console that will actually give me a boost 100% of the time. 4 minute cooldown? Pffff!
I really think it should be a device, much like the Red Matter Capacitor. But really, between the 2, I'd stick with the Capacitor anyways.
I also do completely share the disgust of seeing T1 ships in the Cstore. I mean really, what an awful introduction experience to a new player. If you want any variety in the beginning of the game, you have to pay more for it already, oh and if you use it beyond the first 6 or so levels beyond the intro, you're really limiting yourself. This just screams F2P, but it's not. P2P2P, more like it.

Even before they started that particular BS, the C-store was one of the things that kept me from being able to recruit anyone to this game. I know, I know, supposedly the population has been increasing - but how much more could there be without driving people away with this TRIBBLE?
If you dont want it, dont buy it.. i could care less what is free and what isnt, if i want it, ill buy it.. it doesnt change the game, and you could play anything in STO without buying 1 cstore item.. ill buy things that entertain me, because in the end, thats what im here for. To me i got my lifetime membership fee's moneys worth the first month when i played non stop to make it to admiral.. if i had spent that money out at a bar, in a movie, going to dinner, etc, i wouldn't have had as many hours of enjoyment as i have already had in the past year, and i would have probably seen a bunch of bad movies that would have wasted my time. STO lifetime was the best game purchase ive ever made, its the gift that just keepz on getting better.
So im more than happy to throw down some more bucks for something that i think will let me enjoy it that much more..
The only pre-order items I don't have are: the Neodynium Deflector, The Radiometric Shields, the EMH Console and the Del Taco Shuttle. If these are included in the C-Store, I'll be buying them. As for the Oberth, I collect ships, so I'm getting it as well. The only thing I don't agree with as far as the Oberth is concerned is that the console is universal. I'm of the opinion that it should be for Science Ships only. The reason I have for this is, if the KDF can't have this console...then the Federation should be limited to how many can use it that the very least.
If the Oberth/Console sells for 800 Atari Points (NX-class sells for this amount) that is, roughly, $8.00? So until the last of the Collector's Editions sell out (which we can assume will happen eventually) it's roughly the same price to access the Red Matter Capacitor.
Release Notes: "Please note that just like the constitution and the NX, there is no in game way to unlock this ship. We are working towards an in game solution for the Oberth and the other starter ships for season 4." If it is really the Oberth that the player cares about I'd be more inclined to wait until Season 4 to see how that unfolds.
This is one ugly ship can't think that anyone would buy it unless you could earn it and even then you would have to be board with the other ships!
I think if they wanted to bring out these older ships they sould have started the game out in an earlier time line... and had it pregress through the timeline cuz then it would fit more....
But I guess the war is going baddly for the Federation cuz were flying around in 50 - 100 year old ships!
Don't get me wrong more ships are great but for some of us we would like to get one ship and have it upgrade able which to me would make more sence... Also so be able to asign b.o. to the stations as we see fit.
It would be awesome to see something that fits the TIME LINE.... and more than one ship!
well as long as im wishing it would be cool to see like three ships released at a time so everyone in not in the same ship on release day!
Don't get me wrong, i love the game but whos at the helm and why do we keep going back in time?
- not everybody has the red matter capacitor (and what is wrong with a little variety anyway?)
- Cryptic wants to add MORE lower tier ships with "special abilities" that you *can* use at Endgame (you dont have to), "console" is their way of doing that.
- TOS connie has blue (scaling) phasers as special abilitiy -> you can take those with you allready
- NX-01 has the grappling hook, which they said might be changed into a console... maybe... later... if at all... but they said that this was the plan so... hmm yeah... whatever
- MVAM Prometheus has a "MVAM Console" that you can do absolutely nothing with outside of your Prometheus, but it was the first step for that TECH.
so the point is... that this is the way they want do things now.
There is no evil plan to make everybody buy the latest C-Store item by giving them an OP ability for Endgame...
honestly it probably is going to suck for endgame if i can't put it in the device slot like the batteries.

You know,
I never thought of that
Cryptic might want to make sure that the new console is made avaiable to the KDF at the same time it goes live for the Feds.
I'm not a big fan of this console; however 6 0f 31 of the KDF better have access to it has well
The Oberth will be available as a C-Store transaction at 10:30am on 4/21. Please note that just like the constitution and the NX, there is no in game way to unlock this ship. We are working towards an in game solution for the Oberth and the other starter ships for season 4.
not everyone got the RMC device you know? ^^ for some this console will be a nice and useful addition. esp for healbuilds where you can leave out a tac console for this.
think its a nice addition. im waiting for a t5 oberth though.

So, it will be pay for power, or grind for power. Not sure if that is more to your liking or not.
But I do not think that either the Oberth or the Red Matter Capacitator are real "power". They are a different option. But do they really beat regular Batteries? When you're full impulsing into a battle to help your team and need auxillary power quickly for healing or weapon power for your damage, the dedicated batteries are simply better.
A much more difficult discussion are the ships. Is the MVAM more powerful then a regular AE, or other Escorts? Is it so because it has inherent benefits over other ships or is it just because it happens to be with the current version of existing powers, that the combination has advantages? Are these advantages really absolute, or not situational after all?

Yes...
You have to buy it with ATARI Tokens....
