overcharged?

Ok, today I decided to buy lifetime subscription because it is -20% according to the advertisement. Before clicking pay, I was shown the price of 174€. However, as soon as I payed, I noticed that 215,24 € has been deducted from my account.

Would someone tell me the reason of huge difference between advertised price and charged price?

    Is it possible that the final price includes the VAT? I don't believe that the VAT is calculated in the listed price (and I believe the 23-24% range would be about right for most countries in the EU, where the VAT would apply).

    it called VAT tax.

    from the STO site:
    Prices displayed are not inclusive of VAT and/or other applicable local taxes. Purchases from European Union (EU). VAT is charged in accordance with the local legislation in each member state and varies from 15%-25%.

    The Cryptic Trap has sprung again. I only mentioned it for UK players as I don't keep appraised of other countries' tax regulations. I would presume it's the same for all European countries.

    You have my sincerest sympathies as it's a lousy trick. However, other posters may not be so humane. Expect this thread to be deluged with the usual attacks on your intelligence and character with comments such as "Don't you know about Tax?" and "That's how it's done, now stop whining!"

    All the attacks will, of course, gloss over the fact you agreed to pay one price but were charged another after the agreement without the vendor informing you of the new amount.

    Or as I explained elsewhere:
    Customer: "I'd like a widget please!"
    Vendor: "Certainly. That will be 1 pound."
    Customer: "What an excellent deal! I will buy the widget for 1 pound."
    Vendor: "Thank you. Please give me your debit card."
    Customer: "Here you go!"
    Vendor: "That'll do nicely! The money has been debited from your account. Here is your receipt for one widget at 1 pound."
    Customer: "Thank you very much!"

    Customer leaves shop. Later they check their bank balance, and return to the shop in righteous fury:

    Customer: "Hey Vendor! You charged me £1.20 instead of £1 for this widget, even though you gave me a receipt for £1 and at no point in the transaction process informed me there would be a hidden cost."
    Vendor: "lol VAT!"

    Vendor points to printout of Trollface.jpg on counter with the caption "Prices are not inclusive of VAT and/or other applicable local taxes." stenciled along the bottom.

    Other customers then point at original customer and laugh, stating that it serves the customer right for not reading the small print. The Vendor encourages the laughter by not throwing the other customers out of the shop.

    outch. That explains.
    39€ is one helluva VAT. I can buy food for a week in this price :D

    Yep, just checked it. For Finnish users (probably for all Nordic users). The price is:

    Order details:
    Star Trek Online Lifetime Subscription€174.99
    Tax €38.50

    Total: 213.49€


    Honestly, while writing my first post, I felt like I was being offered candy by the funny looking man on corner in the raincoat with no trousers

    Taxes in European countries must suck. No wonder us Americans decided we were sick of it a few hundred years ago. :\

    Ahh the ol' bait and switch trick :)

    If the game was hosted in the UK i'm pretty sure this would be illegal, as the complete and total sum of the ammount billed must be clearly shown before any transaction can take place.

    Of course cryptic is not making money of the tax, but they should make it absolutley clear from start to finish what the full price will be, this is not a hard thing to do.

    Don't get me started about comparatively low salaries, high taxes and high prices in Finland. :mad:
