Dunno if it's reached the STO website yet, but it seems you can now buy Atari Tokens for other players.
What are Virtual Atari Token Cards?

Virtual Atari Token Cards allow you to purchase Atari Tokens - the currency used across Atari's online game catalogue, including Champions Online: Free for All and Star Trek Online - for yourself or for your friends. When you purchase a Virtual Atari Token Card, you'll receive a special code you can redeem. Just redeem this code to collect your Tokens, or send it to a friend for him to redeem!
How do I share my Virtual Atari Token Cards?

After you purchase a Virtual Atari Token Card, you'll receive a special code in your user dashboard. Just send this code to a friend to redeem, and he will have those Tokens credited to his account. Simple as that!

I wonder if players in one region will be able to buy them for players in another, thus skipping all that unpleasant tax business?

If so, I'll be happy to act as an interim trust broker. ;)

Bravo, Bravo! I've been wanting this for a year now as it would make wonderful Birthday Gifts for a few friends. :)

And sure enough, you can now buy them through the STO website:

I wonder if you can redeem them on the same account they were purchased? (Just to test the redemption procedure.)

I've already gifted a friend, but yes. The interface needs a slight change to it, what it does is gives you an Atari Token key above your current C-Store points as a link. That link sends the key to the key activation thing they have on the front page, so if you click it, it will go to you. (Thus, yes, you can use them yourself)

What I did was copy and pasted the key (not the URL) to my friend's IM window. They went to the homepage and used the Redeem Key feature and it gave them the points.

Thanks for trying this out on our behalf! ;)

Can the key be confirmed as valid without redeeming it? Or does entering it on the Activate Key page and pressing Submit automatically cash it in?

I wouldn't call it a confirmation screen, but you are brought to an agreement for Cryptic's Terms of Services. You have to check "I agree" then click next.

    Gotcha!

Thanks again. As someone who's been bitten by the taxman a few too many times; it'll be nice if codes can be purchased from a more liberated region and gifted for face value compensation.

Has anyone verified if this is possible yet please?
