I ask this because if a person decides to go lifer status, it should mean that everything is open to them, past, present, and future item/s. No more hidden whatevers!
Someone on here mentioned about raising the subscription fees by a buck and open everything to everyone in the game, well, ok, that's not going to happen.
However, my idea is, raise the subscription fee 2 bucks max, and allow the players to have the ability to earn Atari tokens by completing missions, based upon the rank and type/s of mission/s. (Ex.10-50 Atari tokens for patroling a sector of space in addition to whatever's awarded.) That way, Cryptic gets their money from everyone across the spectrum, not just those players who gotta have it now, because like the players who gotta have it now, there are those who will not spend money on one single Atari token.
Of course, Cryptic could still allow Atari tokens to be purchased by anyone who wants to buy them.
Ok, that's my 25 Atari-, I mean, 25 cents.:D:cool:
I understand the annoyance of the lifetime thing but prices should not go up in any way since we shouldn't have to pay more for content that we didn't ask for but regardless of if we wanted or not it should have been free for those who are regular subscribers

Have to agree, this makes no sense to do. The C-Store is (obviously) showing profit across the gambit. Besides the nightmare that'd come by raising subscription costs, which basically screws everyone but lifetimers in your idea mind you, it does nothing for the bottom line over the long term. Why? Because you'd lose a TON of subscribers just by raising costs.
As for lifetimers not having to pay for atari tokens, a stipend is one thing. Outright full free access? yeah no. How else would they make any money off life timers after 16-18 months
When I purchased a lifetime subscription, I purchased a subscription that meant I would not have to pay a subscription fee again.
Anything beyond the subscription is not included in what I purchased. Atari tokens are not part of the subscription but a means to purchase extra things the company is putting into the game. Micro transactions are a growing trend in MMOs.
I don't expect Atari Tokens to be given to me those are not part of the subscription.

What he said, just because you bought a life time sub does not mean you get everything for free now were in that agreement does it say that?????
I;m actually planning on going Lifer after being here one wholesome year and I don't want anything that is NOT subscription for Free, if I was lifer in the get go I would have still payed for my Excelsior Class, 7 of mine, enterprise pack, my bridge packs, and the TOS and mirror uniforms still.
Fixed it for you, because frankly, your whole premise makes no sense. Their subscription is free (well, technically, their subscription cost them three hundred bucks - or whatever it was when it was on sale, if they bought it then - but let's not bandy semantics), so everything should be free?
That would get everyone trying to find some way to get the lifetime sub, and while that may sound like a good thing, it would kill the revenue - you'd get all this money coming it at once, and then diddly squat after that. It would be tantamount to financial suicide, and the folks at Cryptic - despite whatever mistakes they've made recently - are not that stupid.

Personally, I feel when a player goes lifer status, they are paying for everything in the game upfront, why pay more when you shouldn't have to. There would be more incintive to go lifer, so Cryptic gets their cash outright.
BTW, I'm not a lifer myself, at least not yet. So I have nothing to gain by this, or with the non-lifer subscription fees going up. Cryptic can confirm this as fact!

My incentives are I got in prelaunch so I got a discounted price, I received two character slots, I can play the liberated Borg, and I don't have to worry about the subscription fee every month.
About June of this year, I will be playing for free.

again your logic isn't adding up here chief
Sure, they most likely (like with the lifetime sale recently) would see a MASSIVE boost upfront in lifetime sales.
But, as that sputters out... that takes out the long term benefits (where lifetimers do on occasion buy from the c-store), so in the end they lose cash.
Lifetime accounts are more so for the players than the service from a business perspective. They're taking a chance that even after you plop down the 250-300 USD you'll still buy from their microtransaction store.
If ya don't then after 16-18 months you're free riding at that point and (bluntly) a drain on resources
dont get me wrong I think people who shell out big bucks for this game should get some form of concideration other than just no more subs, but I am tired of seeing people who have life time subscriptions demanding they be treated like royalty. I know you shelled out money in a large lump sum but I pay a subscription which will provide continuous revenue over the long haul, and if anything I should get to be treated like royalty too.
The Atari Store should remain expensive to everyone. Perhaps the price should come down a bit to make it more affordable, but lifers should in no way get better treatment than those who still pay monthly in the Atari store, i am sorry.

The people who are lifetimes in this thread and the people who said they are planning on become lifetimes are not the ones asking to be treated like royalty. It is a non lifetime person who is demanding this and I assume it is so he can talk himself into it.
I havent run into too many lifetimes that say what you are saying so not sure where you are getting this from. The lifetimes I have spoken with have only seen the lifetime as a sub that a means of not having to pay a subscription again. Those lifetimers, who want to be treated like royalty, are in the minority.
I don't know. Sure they could do that. "Lifetime Subscription now for sale - no more subscription costs! Everything in C-Store for free".
Then they could stop all development for the game and in 2 years announce that the last STO server will be turned off and that Startrek Online II is going into open beta and early birds get the super special free lifetime subscription with free C-Store access 20 % off!
Another 3 years later, Startrek Online III launches...
nah.
99 percent of what is in the c store is junk and or cosmetic.
that 1 percent (the BO and the administration stuff) should be free for lifers.
Cryptic should want to make money wherever it can. They aren't doing this for the good of thier health.
Look at MMO sub fees. They haven't went up in 10 years. 10 years!!!
10 years ago my house doubled in price and that is during two recessions.
going to a movie in a theater has went up 5 dollars and that is during a time of piracy

Correct me if I am wrong but purchasing a Lifetime sub is purchasing a sub that means I will not have to pay another sub fee as long as the server is live not I would not have to pay for other things that are put in the game.

I bought a 2010 crv last year. Turn out it didn't include upgrades like the trunk organizer so now I have things flying around like a TRIBBLE.
I have to pay extra.
i'm a lifer and happy to buy the C store stuff as i know that it is a source of income from myself after i have no more fees to pay. i may be wrong but more life timers know that the micro transactions are needed to keep Cryptic alive
Lifers never pay subscription fees ever again. Plus they get a few nice extras (character slots, liberated Borg). For the rest they have to pay like everyone else. That's fair. There's nothing vital in the C-Store, we have the same access to all content as everyone else. If we want something extra from the C-Store we have to pay like everyone else. Concerning the administrative options like renames etc it's exactly the same. We want something special we pay for it. It's a deal with Cryptic where both parties want to make a profit. Why the heck should lifers be showered with gifts?

Go back and read my other post I am not saying I should not have to pay. I am saying I should. I used a double negative and it makes perfect sense to me let me translate.
The sub fee I purchased does not say that I will not have to pay for anything else that is added to the game.
Basically I am saying I only paid for a subscription not anything else. But if you look at your previous post you are saying it should be free to Lifetimes and then you use an example that contradicts what you posted in your post I quoted.

Cryptic is a business and not a charity. Lets put this into context shall we? Just because I purchase season tickets to the baseball stadium doesn't mean i'm entitled to free hot dogs and beer does it? The same goes for cryptic points being given to lifetime subscribers. Our lifetime subscription is our season pass and everything in the c-store are concession items simply put.

If this does not get the point across, I don't know what will. Well played.
Without having read a single post apart from the OP:
We (the lifers) have payed for full access to the game in it's basic form, meaning that we pay for full acces to the default ship, missions and uniforms/weapons/kits.
When I got my lifer sup a year ago, I was fully aware that this mean only to the basic game, not the C-Store and not possible expansions in the future.
The fact that we have payed a great deal more than others, initially, only means that in the long run, we will be come an expence to Cryptic. Basically we will at some point become people who don't contribute to the games developing funds, and as such we become leeches (ya... its what i belive).
So why would you give a leech on your leg, a blood transfusion...? This is the ONLY way Cryptic will ever be able to gain money from us in the future, so there is absolutely no reason for us to be treated any diffrently than the normal player, apart from the benefits we were promised... thats it.
Dispite what alot of people think, the fact that we are lifetimers, dosen't entitle us to special treatment... The ones who are really doing somthing for the game are the ones paying the monthly sup each month for the past 12 months... They are the ones ensuring that we (the lifers) have somthing out of our investment.
When I purchased a lifetime subscription, I purchased a subscription that meant I would not have to pay a subscription fee again.

and for the Cstore not every thing come's out for this game sould be put on a Cstore if wow had dun something like this it would not be the king of mmo's btw and i say this for lifers and not lifers
New lifer here (sorry to post in a month + old thread now but I want to add my opinion)
I missed out on the lifetime sub sale that recently happened due to lack of funds, a couple of weeks before payday (great timing Cryptic) but here's the thing, I have still gone lifer, why?
Not because I want any extra features or bonuses but because I don't want the hassle of paying out monthly for a sub when I could pay in bulk for the equivalent of about 20 months play and have it free there after so that's it, no more subs to worry about and another monthly bill off my back.
As a long term subscriber before going life I see the benefit of the monthly sub and also appreciate the C-Store being there, sure as a subscriber I wasn't interested in buying from the C-Store, however, now that I am a lifer I see that I am saving that £10 or so a month which I can put into buying items which mean very little except for cosmetics, it is in a sense my way as a lifer of saying thankyou to Cryptic for bringing out and maintaining a relatively great game that they're improving on all the time.
I will not and do not expect anything extra for free as a lifer except those bonuses that you are promised as a lifer, after all you pay for something, you expect to get it, that's economics from a customer point and if a customer pays for something you make sure they get what they want and are promised or you lose that customer, economics for the business.
As a previous poster said, if you buy a season ticket to a game the confectionary isn't going to be free because they have to make their money somehow from those that buy the season ticket.
So you're point (OP) is invalid, we are not royalty and should not be treated as such just because we are lifers, if anything it is the subscribers that get treated like royalty, say a free but small amount of Atari Tokens each time their sub is renewed as a thankyou for being an on going subscriber and making Cryptic more money by paying monthly or how ever their sub is paid (in my case it was a 3 monthly).

- Lifetime subscriptions are a good deal for the customer, but come with a risk.*
- After a set length of time, Lifetime subscriptions generate less total revenue than normal pay-by-period subscriptions.
- The C-Store items are one way that Cryptic intends to continue receiving income from Lifers once they are, effectively, playing for free.
