I am doing my veno a pure mage build, where I do 5 intel on even and 1 str 4 intel on odd lvls. I get constant critical hits with this build, it's mainly a squishy build but your wood magic is pretty heavy just make sure you have a strong armored pet to keep those high physical enemies at bay.
