And it finally works again, yay! Just copied the directory on my old PWI Wine installation. Thanks a lot for your help r0ottm b:victory Rehdon

PM sent :) I have a working PWI install on a Windows box, do you think that it would be enough to copy that under Wine? or just the Model/Players files? (which, btw, I can't find anywhere here ...). Thank you again, Rehdon

Hi there, and thanks a lot for your reply! Knowing that you managed to have it working is comforting already, here are a few more details about what happens when I launch elementclient.exe: - first of all, the patch was applied with no problems afaik, just to be sure I verified several times; - the patcher is invoked now,…

As it often happens, the latest update messed up PWI under Wine/Linux: any other Linux user who managed to update and run PWI with no problem? Worked great before the update, using Wine 1.5.31 on Linux Mint 14 (Cinnamon desktop), GeForce GT220 graphics. Thanks in advance! Rehdon

Wine 1.5.17 and Linux Mint 13 (Cinnamon edition) definitely work fine here, the only problem I had so far is that the game font now looks incredibly ugly. Rehdon

Goodbye, and best of luck for whatever you'll be doing after PWE :) Rehdon

Upgrading to Wine 1.5 fixed the messed up icons, thx for the tip! :) Rehdon

The latest update broke PWI for me too, the client crashed soon after launch. To have it start again under wine I installed Internet Explorer 7 and that seemed to work. Unfortunately not everything is actually working: the icons are all messed up, the map is not working, and there's probably more just waiting to bite me:…

A couple of alts to contact in case you're not able to PM some of the above: SariaLuna (for Aviadawn) Zaurus (for Navara) CU in game! ;)

Actually the message seems to imply that a file that's supposed to be a JPEG image, it's not. Can you confirm that installing Directx9c is now necessary for the game to run? Thank you in advance. Rehdon
-
I managed to install the patch just fine downloading it from the link posted on the forum, but now the game won't run anymore :( It starts loading but stops almost immediately and the window disappears. The last error message says something like "Not a JPEG image". Any ideas? I don't think that it is necessary to install…

Actually switching from XUbuntu 11.10 to my old Ubuntu 10.10 install fixed the problem. Weird, since it didn't seem to be Wine- or graphics-related, but I won't complain too much :) Dex

You can always download the patch and apply it yourself. Dex

It seems I spoke too soon ... b:surrender There are two problems making the game unplayable: - all skill/item icons have changed in a random way, it is impossible to tell which is which; - the map isn't shown correctly when pressing M, I see only a fragment repeated several times, no alt-clik possible to set auto-path. Any…

To my great surprise, installing IE7 fixed the issue on my nVidia desktop box, will try to apply it to my AMD-based laptop. Thank you everybody! b:victory Dex

I have exactly the same problem on my Ubuntu 10.10 (AMD graphics) laptop, I've tried everything that has been posted here to no avail, except for the IE6 thing ... but I doubt that could be the fix since I usually run PWI bypassing the launcher that shows IE frames. It's unfortunate that the PWI devs won't participate to…

Meh, me feelz stupid, had totally forgotten about that b:surrender

I checked the log and it seems that the update failed to actually update a good number of files. I'm doing a Verify right at this moment, scores of files are being downloaded. I suggest that you do the same and then try again to launch the game. Rehdon EDIT: Well, it's as if it's downloading the whole game again! I'm not…

@Yukkuri: I'm glad that you can do without auto-path, but since I usually do all of my quests you can imagine how having to manually look for coords on PWDB and then applying them inside the game for NPCs, mobs, locations etc. may make things difficult for me. @Alasan: I'm afraid that your suggestions about reinstalling…

Bebo! How are you faring, man??? Nice to hear from you! Hope to meet you again in PWI ;) Dextar

Unfortunately I have exactly the same problem: let me guess, do you have an ATI video card? The game is nearly unplayable because the proprietary ATI drivers have messed up things in Ubuntu 10.04, while they worked perfectly in the previous version (9.10). See the WineHQ page for more information…

Like others, I use Ubuntu too, but driver installation is the same in nearly all Linux distros: basically, and unless you've got exotic stuff, you don't have to go chasing drivers on manufacturers site, the distro takes care of that for you. Be sure to have the distro updates enabled (again, that should be done…
