As you can see in the link above, they will remove some items including the Vendors on the 24th. I know they added the new ram/ewe vendor but why removing the old ones?

Lucky Snake (Green, Pink)
Cow Vendor Shop
Bunny Vendor Shop
Mermaid Vendor Shop
Lighter Vendor Shop

So they can add other items to the boutique.

The Boutique actually uses up quite a bit of resources and has to run on it's own physical server. They aren't able to offer all of the items available in there all the time.

OK, have you ever edited the boutique files? I have. I've also had discussions with the PWE team. Your local data for the shop may only be about 2MB, but there's a LOT more that happens with it on the server.

Remember a while back when we had some really heinous teleport lag? That was because the boutique was using too many resources. They resolved it by moving it out to it's own server. If you do some intelligent searching you can find threads where myself and the CM at the time discussed it in the forum.

Not putting more money from the boatloads of cash they make into better or newer servers and equipment to prevent lag from putting stuff in the boutique is no excuse though......

You talk about it like it's easier said than done. That's not the case.

70% of the time when users even whine about lag it's not even PWI's servers. It's their OWN ISP. ISPs don't go straight to the server location and back again, they bounce around the world/country to and from the server location. if it gets stuck somewhere thats when lag happens.

PWI have upgraded the server hardware, but there is only so much the game itself can do. Lag is not always the game's fault and people need to stop just blaming PWI for it. No game ever has a direct connection for ISPs to go straight to the servers and back. One is currently being developed by a MOBA developer, but it's the first of it's kind.

More importantly, we don't even know if PWI gets to keep all that money or how much they have to give to china, etc. They're a subsidiary not an independent business.

@Poopinpanto - the Event Boutique is still the boutique and is housed on the boutique's server.... Moving it from Gold to Event Gold shop won't change anything.

As the game has been decreasing in population, I'm sure the revenue from it is decreasing. While it clearly hasn't been the lowest (Rusty Hearts, HoTK, and ESO say Hi), I bet it's far from their highest grossing game.

Most companies are going to dedicate their resources to their moneymakers - games like Neverwinter, which is seeing huge success following its Xbox release. PWI isn't exactly high on their list for future hardware upgrades.

Also, remember that this game is super-old, and the coding is pretty ancient. That's going to add a lot of limitations as to what they can do with the game, since you can't do things that code doesn't allow.

    This^

Also the game has been making quite a few strides forward, including things people said couldn't/wouldn't happen. They even updated the games engine about a year ago with some of their newer models. (angelica 3 engine if i remember right) that took some serious coding and work arounds. while the game's population is dying out, all mmo's suffer that in the long run. I expect some new life to be breathed into it before to long, tho PWI is only part of the problem.

When was the last time you Helped that random in WC asking for BH 39 or 59?, when was the last time you helped randoms with TT or other farming instances? the community has become a lot more closed, where finding someone to solo is the norm and expected. i know i wouldn't stay in a game like that at low levels. anyone happen to remember how insane their first FBs were? back before it was just solo'ed by a lvl 100+ character? its rather daunting for a newer player that might not know many players. kudo's to those of you who actually lend a hand out there. [/endrant]

Back on topic, will they be cycled thru sales like the packs? it would be a pity to see them gone completely. i personaly am quite attached to the mermaid. qq

Interesting O__o Never knew that. And would never suspect this since private servers have way more items in their boutiques and handle it fine.

Its difficult to find actual figures for US/EU subsidiaries in the way of population/revenue but if you read the PWE latest trading statement which was updated just before the move to take the company private (May) it still lists PWI as in the top 3 grossing PWE games - i know this is the Chinese Version which is subscription based but I suspect given some of the other empty server games it has in the US/EU side PWI would still be one of its most profitable this side of the world also.

There is also a more dated space MMO that is around 13 years old that works off a single server cluster in London that can handle 360,000 concurrent users with no noticable lag. This space MMO has a vast array of information, including an extensive boutique/shop

Server Stats for Space MMO which is considered to be one of the most powerful gaming server set ups in the world.

    Location: London
    Hardware Vendor: IBM
    Storage Capacity: 4.7TB
CPU Cores: 294 (plus 1 core for developer workloads.)
    CPU GHZ: 2,574
    RAM: 4,071GB
    Network Ports: 8gb/s Fiber Chan x 4
    Transfer Speed 32gb/s Local SAN
    CPU Type: x5260 @ 3.33 GH
    Main “Workers”: HS-21 x5260 @ 3.33 GHz blades, dual-CPU / dual-core 4 cores
Disk Storage system: Storwize v700 (Running Enterprise SSDs since 2007)

And this company makes significantly less than PWE a year.

I think PWE/I could do a bit better given they have greater resources, i do appreciate a part of the issue seems to be the proprietary game engine. Instead of trying to release more and more games, fix the issues that exist in current games, close the games that have empty servers, communicate better with your customer base.

Consider that PWE is just a publisher though. They don't actually develop anything except Arc and the websites.

... probably has something to do with the fact that new players have a solid 2 years of grinding ahead of them to be able to compete in PvP. Or need to shell out a few hundred bucks to fasttrack their toon gearwise (but will still need to grind for morai/primal/meridian etc)

I'd love to be able to help newbies with low instances. But if I'd do that, my own toons would not be making any progress. It's hard enough to finish the dailies as is, especially with the events that are going on.

In my case: 30 minutes ago. People just need to stop worrying about items that will be removed and start having fun by playing PWI again (hint)
