The thread itself is not a complaint thread. But if your someone who can only see in black and white, it could be. The rare times i do make a thread, and such like this, its moreso to ask for a smaller request or an improvement or awareness that actually is within mod/admin capability. I do think my first post was more respectful that some others i see out there, and i have acknowledged the positive and negative. you did word it politely and it did seem like a general question vs. complaint so I am sorry about my last post but these mod have taken over the forums. It is a good thing. These forums had years of lack of moderation. Every post....literally every one that i have seen that has been closed was closed for an obviously good reason. People complaining about nw times or the dq page not being updated. I am also pro necro rule. Why bring back a post from 2009 when the game dynamics have changed so much that any question relating to that thread is mostly null and void. In addition some of the threads have not been closed but moved to the appropriate sub forum. It's a good thing[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -

usually in such posts, a mod/admin would let the posters post what their opinions as long as its within respectable limits. Think about it really, how can that reason alone be a reason to close a tread ? If someone asked something about server maintanance in 2010 yes, then its logical to close it. If there is a more recent (front page) thread about the same topic, sure close it. But if it is a discussion that can still be usefull, where people just want to expand with more questions on the topic, it is so much better to necro an old thread than to start the discussion all over again from scratch and repeating everything that was already said.
Closing only because it is necro is just stupid mindless bureaucratic thinking. And that makes raises my hairs and makes me itch. I have been a mod myself for years on a forum and i know it is tough to always objectively decide when to close a thread and when not. I know it is nice to have some guidelines, but such mindless rigidness is unreasonable. If that were a good method, you'd better have the software to do the job for you.

i think they mean by closed/necro, the old threads that can still be applied to current gameplay. I seen a couple in the last month or so that has been closed purely due to the necro, but the new content posted was something of good use that could have been added on top of an existing thread, thus making the 'search' easier too. You could say its a rare ratio of 10:1 but maybe its been 10:2 as of late.

maybe the mods can discuss between each other a check list of sorts, instead of just a flat out 'necro lock'? That way in the case that an old thread is revived, one thats useful and still can be applied to current gameplay, it wont be closed. Closing such threads could possibly result in a more confusing search result, resulting in a new thread of same topic, and its a never ending circle really. Yea i agree, not that the forums are active anyways.. Sanctuary forums get 1 thread where pk trash talk happens and it gets banned after 2-3 pages, i mean if forums were active sure why not but they are dead anyways let the trash talk happen its fun to watch xD b:laugh0

One thread was having a nice discussion, then it was locked cuz mod said "rules are rules" when it was a nice discussion and relevant, only cuz it was a bit old it was locked? It was "bumped" because it was information ppl wanted.
Mods need too facilitate our discussions not hamper.

If that is so, why don't the trolls get forum-banned and/or their posts deleted instead of closing the thread? Doesn't need to be a perma-ban either, but actions require consequences, and closing threads punishes the discussion, more than the perpetrators of derailment.

Like Man said, sometimes you want to contribute to the actual discussion.
We do have a system in place for monitoring behavior. It's just not cool to start off that way because a thread can always be remade but banning a person for one bad day would result in 90% of the forum getting banned eventually. We are all only human and everyone will make mistakes. Also would like to add that if a thread got too derailed and had to be closed, that does not mean you cannot reopen the thread for actual discussion. There is no reason NOT to continue the discussion sans troll responses. If it was closed because the topic itself was inappropriate that's another story. But things like reposting a video that got derailed with 5 pages of personal insults wouldn't be a problem. Or responding to a necro with a new thread of your own which some posters have done. And finally would like to add that if you feel a thread was closed improperly, don't just sit there and hate the mods. Send the mod in question a message. You'll either get a more detailed explanation of why the thread is to remain closed or the thread may be reopened. Even the mods are only human and you cannot expect perfection from us at all times. That is one of the reasons for the private messaging system in the first place.0 -
