    Someone clerverly compiled things with VS6 - use winetricks and get vcrun6 and you will be fine.

    No idea why they did that - game boots up fine once you do that.

    after todays update i cant strat the game...

    im using wine + ubuntu 9.10

    when i press start on the splash screen my wine just close without saying nothing =\

    what can i try?

    So I did what the Page 1 post said to, even added some things into the regedit, and I can start the game, launcher runs very very smoothly, yet when I either click Start, or open elementclient.exe directly, the game runs extremely friggin slowly; I'm talking a frame every 45 seconds or longer. I'm running latest stable wine (1.2.2 I think) with Ubuntu 10.10 x64. Is there something I'm missing, or is my system screwed up somehow?



    Intel Core i5 CPU 650 @ 3.20GHz
    4GB Ram
    ATI Radeon HD 5450 w/ 1GB Dedicated DDR3 vRAM

    [First time posting my specs, lemme know if I screwed it up?]

    Edit: Forgot to mention that I hadn't had any sound. However, I've just used glxinfo | grep rendering, after installing mesa-utils via terminal, and I'm now getting sound, but it's choppy. Playing about .5 seconds of music, then repeating that same .5 sec, then moving on to the next .5 sec of the track, repeating it once more, maybe twice more, then moving on again.

    Edit 2: Okay, I just facepalm'd. Got the Drivers for my ATI card, and it's working basically really well, but the sound is still effing up every now and again. Might be wine?

    Wine 1.3.16(didnt work only autoway) and 1.3.17 work fine(in Arch Linux)

    hi there, im new to a mac and need help please. i have not had PWI working on it yet

    i have crossover games installed and installed PWI through it, and i have having issues when i clicked start it came up with an error message everytime.

    I then seeked help and installed microsoft visual c ++ 6.0. this helped a little, as in when i clicked start it started for around 10 seconds and then the same error came up.

    I have noted comments about vcrun6, but i dont know how or where to get this from and where to install it into.

    will vcrun6 fix my issue? if so, please can i have link/instructions?

    if not, does anyone have any other suggestions?

    I can`t open the game even all the changes i did with your tuto. I did exactly all you told that, but the elementclient.exe is now a corrupt file that only work on Windows i think.

    K, so I got PW to run pretty much perfect, except for sound. Music specifically, but any sound is prone to it. It's like some kind of bad stutter, where it replays the last half second of music, then moves to the next half second (played one second total) then from the new spot, it'll repeat that, giving me a constant two-steps-forward-one-step-back feel for the music, or any sound. The Blacksmith's hammering is especially prone to this, where it'll "machine-gun" the "hit" sound for a few seconds, then move on. I now have to play with all sound turned off because I'll get headaches if I don't. I really enjoy the music of this game, and I don't think it's Perfect World per se, but I don't know, I know that my "Configure Wine" Audio tab says I'm using the ALSA drivers, but if I use another one, then run PW, the audio just up and quits, and I have to reinstall Wine to get it working. Can anyone help, or will I be stuck to listening to other music in the background? b:shocked b:cry

    music in the client easily find.just copy from the catalog and launch them in deadbeef(rhytmbox-...) as background.
    *^^ play above 3 years in PW(2 PWI and 1+ at PWR)...remove all sounds in first week*

    Im trying to figure out how to run PWI without the game shutting down my second monitor.

    I run the game in windowed mode, just to be clear.

    I have tried all the basics. I have manually set the ini file for the game to a larger res and even tried to set the virtual desktop mode to a larger res. I have metamodes enabled. I have also tried to do set another xserver window using a new layout **** to actually give me a new xserver session to allow kde control my monitors but for some reason kde reports missing resourses.

    My Specs:

    The game runs perfect other then a little cursor in the middle of the screen I can live with.

    Is there a setting somewhere that would tell the game not to turn off my second monitor?

    this is an issue with he composting engine and nvidia's "workaround" for dual screens, as far as wine (and linux/ubuntu for that matter) are concerned, you have a single screen that is the dimensions of your two screens combined (or in the case of you running the second screen at a higher or lower res then the main, the size of the largest res screen x2)

    Try this, go into winecfg and add elementclient.exe to the list on the main page, thus makin a "bottle" for the game, then, with the client highlighted, go to the graphics tab and set it to run in a virtual desktop, and set the dimensions to the size you want. load the launcher and set the graphics settings to run in 800x600 windowed, then launch, then while in game, set your screen dimensions and res from there, and make sure to set the fullscreen on, tho while running in a virtual desktop smaller then your screen size it wnt actually fullscreen, it'll prevent the double-titlebar issue you get from runnin things in virtual desktop mode (as the metacity/compiz window managers adds it own window titlebar and controls to the window)

    I had the same issue on mine, dual screens, and this method helped for alot of games/apps that seemed to "misbehave" on me.. the most common issue being programs would attempt to stretch across both screens, resulting in only half a screen that filled my entire screen and a nice black screen on the other

    also, dont know why, but pwi seems to run better in win2k mode, so might wanna add that to the bottle config

    I'm running on Linux Mint, I couldn't get the game to run after patching. The process quits after a minute of stalling upon clicking the play button.

    Please help.

    I have ubuntu 11.04 (kubuntu) and i dont know how to run PW.. i just have installed game from Windows. and i put it to home directory in linux. so, i have wine 1.3, but when i click start in launcher it failed.

    Help me please. I install Ubuntu 10.10 to try PW and everything like in this tutorial. but I have mistakes with installing DirectX. So game dont open - it crached when I started elementclient.exe. Then I delete DirectX and try once again... I have this when I started elementclient:

    take a look at your ~/.xsession-errors right after elementclient crashes; it might give you hints as to what is going wrong. this is really your most powerful diagnostic tool, after the standard error output you'll see in a terminal window when you launch elementclient from the command line.

    look at your wine configuration program, see what libraries you have installed. other than maybe vcrun6, there should not need to be anything there.

    check your registry, see if you've added the directx rendering keys as described earlier.

    without further details such as these, there's nothing any of us can do to figure out what might be going wrong for you.

    edit: oh yes, and also let us know which wine version you're using. recent 1.3.x editions have not worked well for me, and i'm currently on 1.2.x-latest.

    omg.... I really don't understand anything, because my english is not so good.. but I try..
    so, have u see this my post this is from kubuntu... but I couldn't run elementclient from terminal on ubuntu 10.10 like in last post I've written. I will try kubuntu 11.04 (because I like it more). I think it doesn't matter what linux I have.
    my problem is that I have mistakes when I try to install directx9.. (I saw in terminal)
    I have wine 1.2

    I try once again PW on Ubuntu 10.10. so I check regestry and add library, that u talking about. I have wine 1.3.22 (I didnt reinstall it to 1.2.x)

    sounds like a problem with either your game files, or your graphics card driver. run a verify from the launcher, and check that you have the most recent NVidia drivers installed.

    There is no problem with game files, because I run verification and it was successful. After that I try to run PW only from elementclient in terminal. And my system ask me to install NVidia driver.. So I start game after this all.. I dont know what I shall do...

    this part means there's some sort of memory corruption happening in your NVidia graphics card driver. you might want to update it, or re-download it.

    I have Ubuntu 10.10 and i installed PWI but when i click on Start after the launcher checked for updates it just crashes b:cry

    I have wine 1.2, winetricks, i did registry and i installed directX

    By the past i did install PWI with no problem, just like windows, i dunno why today i can't b:cry

    Hi. I understand what promlem I had and now u have this.
    On Ubuntu 10.10 u should install proprietal driver on your video (I dont know am I wright whis this word in english, so its driver not of linux, for example, I install NVidia driver)
    Then u can start game. if u want to use wine 1.2, u can, but graffic is not so good, I recomend u to install the latest wine 1.3. and also u shouls install in winetricks a library VCRUN6

    P.S. But I have promlem with auto-pathin in game. when i click to coordinats of NPC or mobs i should kill, it always run or fly to coordinats near Valley of the Hidden Orchid
    can anybody have this problem and what to do???

    I did sudo apt-get install nvidia-current

    And it says my nvidia driver is the latest available b:surrender

    I'll try to uninstall everything and install wine 1.3 and PWI again

    hey, i read most of the questions on this thread and the answers and saw that meluzina and I have the same problem. I installed the game a few days ago in Ubuntu 10.10 with no problems, i use wine 1.3, NVIDIA settings in the current driver version installed, i marked the patcher.exe , launcher.exe and elementclient.exe as runnable programs the same for the DLLs, i have the directx installed also and still it wont work. I`ĺl try to install the vcrun6 but i really don`t understand why its not working cause the launcher is ok i think it just won`t open the game itself.

    Thanks you guys who have been trying to help, and sorry for grammar errors i am no native speaker.
