Why do meleers shard their weapons with garnets?

    the dmg from blazing arrow is based on ur weapon attack, and it does have use. the stronger ur bow is the more extra fire dmg u deal with regular attacks. a barb also gets extra elemental dmg from poison fang. and a wiz with frostblade.

    Putting citrines in a weapon won't make a bit of difference. 50-100 hp is not a determining factor in the majority of fights. Besides, pure vit insinuates they have a high vit, which means the cits don't matter even more. At 10k hp and up, the hp from a single citrine is negligible.

    pretty sure the description at least for frost blade is incorrect. 
    breathe an icy breath onto a squad member's weapon allowing giving their normal attacks
extra Water damage equal to 40% of your base magic attack. Lasts 30 minutes

    40% extra water damage from some of the higher wizards would give in the neighborhood of +5000 water damage per hit. which is not the case, idk if the same is true for the archer/barb self buffs.

    Monsters take full damage from the element they beat. They have increased armour for their element, and reduced to the element which beats them.

    There are still arguments over how exactly frost blade works. General opinion is that it seems to be based on the recipients weapon damage, given that it adds jack all extra damage.

    the only time i can see elemental shards being at all useful would be if you have an otherwise very good piece of armor that's missing one elemental resistance, and you want to compensate for that. elemental shards in a weapon are purely a waste of sockets that might be much better used otherwise. but elemental-damage buffs don't take up sockets, and so are a pure bonus.

    edit: not that i haven't made the same mistake myself, sharding elementals in a pataka thinking it'd change my magic attacks. i learned better before i could repeat the mistake, fortunately, and the shards were mob-drop trash anyway, so no loss.

    For me elemental shard on weapon only use full at following times :
    1. Farm certain elemental mobs or instance as melee class
    2. Sometimes when fighting melee class with very low elemental defense or when bm change sutra to phy def

    Simple explaination and all technicality stuff aside ?

    Elemental shards = 4 elements to represent IF it's deemed usefull, at all, a little.
    Garnets = Melee damage + the damage they already do.

    A weapon can only have 2 sockets.

    2 sockets/4 elements = .. nuh-uh... does not compute

    2 sockets/more damage = Yah-uh ! Let's go...
