But tbh, EQ's attitude. these it the steps:
1) EQ is currently the udnerdog, ppl wants to help udnerdog
2) so Underdog makes Server think they want colorful map) maybe some do, not all
3) so they get Server trust it will be different
4) they use the server to help gank #x
5) then suddently 50/50 map split
6) oh u know what, u guys was jsut tools in our evil plan, sry!
7) profit XD
no seriously, ppl who know EQ's overall attitude should know. commonly used across games also, nothign new. dont let them fool ya lolz.
but either way it seems with new TW system it wont matter with number of TW land rly. only ones benefitting form it will be ppl alrdy with Rank 8 to go Rank 9. so getting closer to careless lol.

@Yorkin, I LOL'd when I read your signature. I like it, but I don't believe total destruction is necessary.
@Heartstone, you're entitled to whatever opinion you want, but it won't change the reality of the situation. EQ is not like Calamity in this regard. Still, it was good for a laugh, so thanks b:thanks You must understand that Equinox is not like every other faction on every other server. It would not only be pretentious to think that one faction could hold all the land, but completely unfeasible, either. If EQ becomes the oppressive top dog, I would hope other factions would band together to put it in its place. Many of the people in Equinox are not defined by the TW map color. I myself have participated in the vast majority of every one of Equinox' victories and defeats, before they were even on the map. I'm not a history buff when it comes to other servers, but I don't believe any server has been pushed to the brink of TW extinction and come back. Lesser factions would have vanished entirely. Armagedon is another faction that is still kicking, even with its most recent breath of life. It is the perspective that I have and share with others that is unique to EQ. We know what it is like to be hunted down ruthlessly, weekend after weekend. Dynasty and Vanquish know, too. Without making too much of a generalization here, the only people that this isn't apparent to are some Calamity members. I had a talk with Shadowfire over PM last night... even he can see (or in the very least, appreciate) this perspective. It was a lesson that Calamity taught to us. Thank you for that hard lesson.
@Chazze & Lieal No matter how hard you try, you cannot get a bonified set of rules for TW. There are specific GMs that interpret conduct specifically pertaining to TW; one was so kind once to visit EQ once during a TW a long time ago, inquiring as to the legitimacy of the battle. I contacted Eatwithspoons via PM a long while back seeking clarification, but none was given other than "I don't handle it, submit a ticket".
Historically speaking, we know it is not ok to sham bid. That is, it is not ok to pay another faction in either coin or in-game items to attack with the specific intentions of breaking a gank or to engage in TW where the attacker does not put forth an earnest effort in attacking. I guess in situations where this is contested, ultimately its the judgment call of the GM. The degree to which this is assessed is unknown, but factions have been burned before because their leaders have done this, resulting in a 1 week ban for the parties involved. Subsequently, it is also known that factions likely still engage in these soirees on vent, where GMs cannot read chat logs, but the dirty deed is still done.
However, history also teaches us that it is not against the TOS, rules of conduct or engagement to let an attacker simply have land. Calamity and Equinox both have opted to choose which fights they attend, while they choose to engage another faction. Such "inaction" by the defending faction does not seem to be against any rules, as there is absolutely no precedent for it. There doesn't even necessarily need to be a gank involved for a faction to not show up; perhaps its to a faction's strategic advantage to let some lands dissolve of their control.
I'm not suggesting this is how Equinox plans on making the map more multicolored, however it would be an easy way to seed factions in various locations of the map, to the point where they could establish a larger user base. Owning land is a status symbol, and people tend to flock to factions that have it, more often than factions that don't. It would also protect them from Calamity, whose modus operandi has thus far been to only have one enemy at any one given time, stamping everyone out systematically.5.0 "Pure" 8jun Sage Clawrcher of Dreamweaver0 -
Yorkin - Dreamweaver wrote: »Okay, okay. I see the talks have got a bit flamed up. Before I start there are two things I would like to ask/point out.
First, if Equinox were the one owning most of the map, would you hate THEM for that? Would a title of this thread be "Challenge for Equinox?"? Or any other dominating faction, for that matter.
Second, neither Calamity or Equinox have any responsibility to other factions and players on sharing or not sharing the rest of map. Yes, they are both powerful, and OH YES, everyone wants to join once the level up to 90+ or 100+ in some minor factions.
Frankly, I don't give a damn who owns the map. It is not the territory, it is the players themselves I want to correspond to. You might say: "Yeah, you're a low level player, some excuse..."
Big mumbo-jumbo politics about making place for everyone sounds a bit dishonest to me. You sound like the leaders in conference of Jalta. They divided the world into NATO and Eastern Block. And since we have "the Reds" on the map, guess who's the NATO b:chuckle... do I need to say anything further?
However, sense of sharing does show that both factions are mature and, at least partially, follow the old saying "With great power, comes great responsibility." (unlike some real world leaders I could mention).
You know, I really, really don't give a damn which faction are you from or which level are you on. If you ask me for help, I'll try to help (provided I don't fall asleep while someone hands in the BH quest after every single monster and then returns to dungeon; I apologize for that one). I mean, the real world is too much antiutopian these days. At least we can make this one a little bit... well... perfect b:pleased.
So all this squabbling over TW is a loss of time. If Calamity holds most of/entire map, so what, if Equinox does/doesn't approve on that, so what... It just a game, a competition. You are turning it into politics, my dear co-players, nothing more. And that will ruin the game.
When Etherblade City was still in hands of Equinox, surrounded by Calamity (and that was a very very long time ago) I had to do a FB29. And to my surprise, I was invited into a squad comprised of 2 Equinox members (a Executor and a Commisioner) and 3 Calamity members (Executor and 2 Commisioners). Executors were waaaaaaaaaaay level above us. But still, I didn't find any words of hostility in squad chat (and I think there wasn't time for whispering) despite the fact we were doing the FB prior to siege of Etherblade. And, this may hurt others who helped me later, that was one of the best dungeons I ever had and felt like we did something really really special.
So... we don't have to be friends and all, but... just do something more constructive. Don't squabble.
I bid you all, Equinox and Calamity, Vanquish and HDT, and all others, good luck and safe journies.
It's a long quote, I know, but this is just about one of the most intelligent posts I've read. Especially the bit about turning a game into politics. It's just a game, people, and we all want to win, don't we? Just as in life, in sports and other competitive events, everyone wants to win.
Why, just as Yorkin talks about an FB he ran consisting of mixed EQ/Cala members, just the other day I was helping out on a BH in Delta - 3 Calamity, 3 EQ, and not a bad word between us. We're all gamers, individuals, looking to progress our own game, our own character, and most of us will use whatever means are at our disposal to do so. If I need a BH and a party chock-full of EQ is doing it, I'm gonna go along if I get the invite, and I'm gonna go along without a single bad feeling in my heart - we are all working together at times, enemies on the TW field or not, to achieve our goals.
TW is just part of the game, and really, who cares who wins? It has no real bearing on our lives. I've been in Calamity a couple of months now and we've lost a few lands to EQ. Do I cry about it afterwards? Do I feel as if my world is ending? Surely not. I take pride in myself and what I'm capable of doing to help my team, win or lose.
I would like to think that the majority of us are adults, at least 18+, and we should all be able to handle this in a mature manner. So Calamity owns the map, woopee. That does not make us the devil, it only makes us driven, focused, and hard-working. EQ would like to take over at least part of the map - this also makes them driven, focused, and hard-working. We are not so different, are we?
I personally prefer the more challenging TWs, the more time-consuming ones where we actually have to think and work hard together. Trust me, while a 6 minute TW may feel kinda cool, it's also kinda boring. We spend all week building up to it, farming our herbs, buying our charms, trying to get that one more level in before TW, etc. And then, 6 minutes later, it's over, and I'm left feeling... bored? I don't know, but those wins almost feel like loses, or anticlimactic at the least. I love being in the wars vs. EQ, those are exciting, action-packed, frustrating, exhilarating... A very wide range of emotions go through me during and after those wars. And those wars are what make the game worth playing.
I really think (not to speak for my whole faction here, only for myself, really) that Calamity WANTS a challenge, we appreciate the challenge. It gives us something more to work for, drives us further to come back next week and be better. It keeps the game alive, so to speak. But Calamity will certainly not roll over and just hand out lands for the sake of "fairness" because really, that's not fairness at all. It's not fair to all the Calamity members who have busted their asses from the beginning to attain all those lands, and it's not fair to our challengers because it in no way challenges them, encourages them to work harder, learn more, and be stronger.
I honestly couldn't believe, when I logged on today, that this thread is still going. Too much talking, not enough gaming going on here. If you want Calamity land, get your **** in-game, work hard, and take it. Stop all this political **** and QQ'ing about the big evil Calamity and go earn something for yourself, just like EQ has, just like any other faction that has or will hold land.
And EQ, I look forward once again to seeing you on the field this weekend - make it fun, eh? And remember, it's just a game0 -
We're all aware that this is just a game. Our politicking is all part of it. I just have a vision of a server where TW isn't based entirely on competition, but a tool for making the entire server stronger. Sometimes we get a little caught up in the whole Calamity vs. Equinox hype because well, we've been fighting each other for so long. I too have been in squads comprised of both Calamity and Equinox members. When most of the high levels are in the top few factions, those factions tend to work together in everything not called TW.
However, I feel like the current climate is not one very appealing to newer players. When I began playing, there were four dominant factions on the map and a few others that had land. I liked that. It looked like there were plenty of places I could go where I could work with high level members; or that if my faction persevered, we'd be able to compete. However, now new players see a mass of red, a blotch of pink, and a spot of green. They feel like they have to leave their factions to join these specific few. A quick TW with Calamity proves this point all too easily. When I was with DraGonS, one of the oldest factions on the server and one of the first to TW, we worked very hard to compete in TW again. We merged with another faction to boost our membership. We were at our strongest and threw everything we had at Calamity. It was over in 7 minutes. I was on a catapult squad and they didn't even defend us. A few people who got killed took us out while we were on their crystal. Even after it was over, Calamity's archers continued spawn-killing us on our base platform. If this isn't a message to stay out of TW, I don't know what is. Most of our members were 30 levels lower than Calamity's and we wanted to learn how to TW. They buried us. Tons of people left the faction seconds after that defeat. The merger eventually failed and most of the old members left or quit the game.
I am not "QQ'ing about the big evil Calamity." I took that message for what it was worth. I joined Equinox because it's the only place right now where I can fight Calamity and win 1v1. I don't want it to be that way. I want the atmosphere of this whole server to change.0 -
Meh, I have to say, that I do agree that it does hurt a guilds morale if they are rolled in less then 10 minutes against a guild like calamity... I have been in a guild that it happened too; however, I was kind of expecting it too, why? Well because they are the top faction on the server. As a few of there members are saying... more or less... a earned victory is a lot more savory then a victory just handed over, besides if you beat cala, then you have that much of a better chance of holding them or any other guild off from taking it from you.
The more they toy with us, the worse we would have been to our morale in the long run, sure it may make them stay together for the short term, but I can see it hurting them thinking that they can stand toe to toe with cala, and then try to go against equinox and get rolled in half of the time.
In other words it can easily go both ways, on one hand it does keep factions together to an extent, but I think some people would be just as disappointed if they were 'toyed' with and led to believe they are stronger then they actually are, only leading to a bigger fall. (Kind of like that old saying goes... "the bigger they are the harder they fall." In this case egos. xD
Either way, in my own opinion this is just a clever ploy by the eq staff, to make people like equinox and to only join in on there so called "cause," nothing wrong with that, not like eq can't beat cala 1 on 1 anyways.Ah, Mistakes are so easily made. ~ laura resnick

It isn't a ploy. Currently, EQ can hold their own against Cala. It doesn't change anything. Clever isn't how I'd describe it... perhaps just more fair, more fun, and a better long-term goal for our server's TW outlook.5.0 "Pure" 8jun Sage Clawrcher of Dreamweaver0 -

Never thought someone would actually translate my signature. But I'm glad it has. No, I don't believe that total destruction is necessary as well. It just that everyone was SOOO much debating about how to challenge Calamity I got nervous at some point. Everyone saying "What could be...?" but nobody actually wanted to admit the real truth. That they want Calamity destroyed. Entirely or not. It is not I was insulting anyone though. b:cute

But see, that's the interesting thing about Dreamweaver (not too sure about the other servers): a lot of moral implications, drama, politics gets added to TWs. That's what makes these type of threads interesting to read for me. Sorry, though, it must not be too pleasant viewed from inside the conflict itself, b:surrender especially now that other factions are getting sucked into the Calamity vs Equinox fight.
