I want to go for a demon psy but i am kinda scared my survivability on a PVP server will be serverly limited compared to a sage psychic I want the huge kill bonuses and landing magic crits 24/7 is sexy my main reason is becuz on my server no1 is a demon psychic and guess i want to be the odd one out because i like to be diffrent but i dont know if its worth it whats u guys opinion on demon psychics

Gee, if you want to be different you can always make....ah wait, all the stupid ideas have already been taken, so you can't really make a full vitality psy or an aps psy...so I guess you'll have to either settle for taking the best option for the psys or joining the I R Special brigade.
If you want to be different, play better than others. If only way you see yourself differentiating from others is by choosing demon just because nobody else does....Sure, demon has its perks but that shouldn't be the reason to choose it, if you compare the two realistically, sage is much, much better and highly versatile in comparison to demon who is capable of dishing out that high crit rate for brief moments of inspiration, but that's about it.0 -

@LuciferV You're missing the point, the guy wants to be demon just to be different and I'm saying that's a wrong reason to do so. There are a few good things about demon psys which doesn't make them a bad choice, but sage psys are much more versatile and when you compare their skills, sage psys have much more useful skills than demon - or you gonna try telling me now that stuff like demon psy.will is better than sage, or bubble of life, or soulburn, or earth vector, or or or or or or....0

and both sage and demon are fun to use.
only difference is demons crit like a moose on a interstate.
I wouldnt go demon just to be different though,
it takes different strategies to play either demon or sage
because of their different skill add-ons at lvl 11.0 -

Sage Psy has 20 seconds physical resistance, Demon has 8.
Sage Psy has 6 second charm tick and 5 second silence, Demon has 7 and 3.
Sage Psy builds chi easier, and as you may have noticed, we need chi for our defensive spells. No chi = dead Psy.
It may not seem like it, but the 10 meter range on Sandburst is sick. I definite must both for AOEing opponents and tossing out enemy sins.
Sage Psy hits harder and can debuff an enemy's charm for 1 second more.
Sage Psy gets two purify spells. Double the purify effect is worth it's weight in gold.
Unsure on this one, but didn't only the sage DoTs get beefed up to 500%? (could be wrong here)
Sage Glacial Shards immobilizes for 6 seconds at 60%. IMO, 60% is more than enough and the 15% less chance is definitely worth the extra two seconds.
Soulburn lasts 2 seconds longer.
Demon Psy's strength is in crit.
The problems arise in HOW it gains crit.
Landslide requires you be close to your enemy to even cast, then has only a 30% chance of increasing crit by 50% for 4 seconds. 4 seconds is basically two spells then the effect is gone, so basically you get a guarenteed crit on a spell like Aqua Impact or Spirit Blast. While nice, it's also fairly limited.
Demon Tide Spirit increases crit rate by 20% for 15 seconds. A very nice affect, but again, the problem is this costs two sparks. When a demon Psy uses this, they're basically announcing "I have no sparks left" and the Psy is super vulnerable themselves. While overall the effect is still nice, it's an issue of putting all your eggs in once basket. Sage Psy offers Bubble of Life, Psy will, Soulburn, Empowered Vigor, Soul of Silence, extra chi aaaaall over the place (Earth Vector, Spirit Blast) etc, Demon offers....well, Tide Spirit.
The other issue with Tide spirit is that a Psy is easily kited from. You HAVE to use Earth Vector or Glacial in combination with it to make sure the enemy stays put, and a simple anti-stun or AD might ruin most (if not all) of your Tide Spirit. The alternative is to use Soul of Stunning with a high soulforce to stun the target for 10 seconds, THEN Tide Spirit, but it's overkill at that point. I know from experience that the Sage version would get the job done in that scenario...
Purify is super damned important.
5 second silence and 6 second charm tick is super damned important.
20 second physical immunity is super damned important for fighting archers and sins.
20% extra crit on Tide Spirit? It's kind of a luxury.
Overall Psys have plenty of offensive moves already, but we have one of the crappiest defenses in the game. Don't get even more offense when it's unneccesary, pad your defense with Sage.
EDIT: Here OP, I actually found a visual aid to help illustrate my point: This.
Jump to the 9 minute mark and watch "How to slow down catas with minimal Tunnel Snakes." As you watch, compare sage to demon. First thing you'll notice is I attempt to Tide Spirit (cause I never expected to be able to hold off entire cata squads with me and a veno, so might as well bomb my chi and try to kill one) but it immediately gets "cancelled" by turtle. This is the issue with Tide Spirit. All it takes is an opponent that knows what he's doing to ruin it.
Next, just watch my chi. Watch how I build it up, watch Earth Vector save me a spark (which saves my life) etc etc etc. Watch how the 20 second physical immunity comes in handy.
None of that would've been possible if I were demon. Had I been demon I would've died at about the 10:30 mark (or earlier, correct me if I'm wrong). Demon basically attempts to burn half as long and shine twice as bright, the problem being that the window of opportunity demon creates is easily dodged with AD, turtle, or holy path kiting. If you use Soul of Stunning in advance then Demon tide is just plain overkill. Sage however allows you to last twice as long in order to get kills later (which I do, you'll see a cata barb drop in that mess).I AGOREY0 -

Might I also say, there are SEVERAL R9 +12/+11 (+12 weapon and +10-+12 armour) Psychics on Archosaur Server, sharded with Dot/JoSD or both. examples of this being Dai_Viper, Nissoss, heroofshadow, zkickz. I prefer sage as I don't mind supporting others and the survival benefits are pretty big. In 1v1 PvP though, Sage lacks ways to amplify their damage so there are certain targets they would find it difficult to kill.
Demon is more for "haha I crit a lot" PvP and single target boss DD.
Demon is more a gambling culti. They can luck out and hit it big and get a short chain of mostly crits, or lose the gamble and waste chi, which is harder for them to come by.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -

Really ? An additional +361 fixed damage is hardly an improvement (+13% of the already existing fixed damage), when +30 chi is quite significant for one of our most used skill and allows the Sage Psychic to build chi even faster.

When a psychic goes for a kill and wants some chaneling, she uses Tide Spirit, not the useless chan-reduction provided by Black Voodoo.

Afaik, no psychic ever killed with Soul of Vengeance anyone she could not kill otherwise. The damage provided by SoV is ridiculously low in PvP.

Agreed. Demon would win if, as some people said, the Demon was not so easy to avoid or render useless.

Arguable. A fixed amount of damage over time does not hurt much (that's why before Sirens of War, Psychic could claim to have the best DoTs, being weapon attack-based), whereas a chance to immobilize can come in handy.

Arguable, but you have a point : if you have to plan ahead no matter what, then better the extra 2s. Yet sometimes you cannot plan ahead because you have made Glacial Shards your last opportunity -for exemple, when aiming at a running target and no spark left for Vector, so 75% is still better.

Agreed. Anyway, when the proc rate is above 30% -which does not only mean a good proc rate but also excellent gears to survive the attacks-, no one can hope to kill you without some way to prevent the seal, wich renders both Sage and Demon inefficient.

You are right, it depends on the use. Yet, used in offense, I find that this skill is better at reflecting negative effects than at reflecting damages, and in that way Sage = Demon. I used to think the Sage add-on would be useless, but now I could not go without my little instant self-heal.
As many people said, this is only my opinion. But if we play the math game (1 point per draw, 2 points for a winner), then for me it's 33-13 for Sage. Yet it's all a matter of gameplay ; I think it is possible for a Demon Psychic to use the best of her skills and be a killing machine. As a Sage Spychic myself, I mostly play defensively until I have a window of opportunity.Knowledge is power. Guard it well.0
