Hey all!

It's been a while since I've made a new toy but I think I have something you guys will like.
The hardest part about refining used to be making sure to combine the right amount of 1 stars to get higher order dragon orbs but these days a great deal of refining is done without dragon orbs at all. A lot of people don't have much experience with this and don't know what to expect. Now those people have no excuse!

PWI Refining Simulator

This tool will let you practice your refining skills and gives you lots of feedback about how well you are doing. I made an effort to match the in-game refining experience as closely as possible and things turned out well. You can even choose which NPC you want to refine at and you will get the exact same effect as there is in game!

Comments and Suggestions are welcome and encouraged!

Tested in Firefox, Chrome, and Safari
Works PARTIALLY in IE

so... its unsupported by microsofts COMPATABLE explorer..

figures. ive seen computers with 400,000 mb's of internet cache and bugged up browsers with chrome.
stop downloading stupid things like chrome... trust me, its NOT netter than IE....

Awesome toy!

I tried it for about 30 min, and I can't seem to get the bow to 7+ with over 100 mil of mirages and refine aids.

Can anyone?

As long as the "random" routine of your calculator isn't the same as on server side (server hardware + software), it won't be the same like in-game b:surrender

I'm sure I'll get flamed for this statement, but I don't believe that this game has a proper working "randomizer".

I'm going to move this to the crafting nook and sticky it there, because it deserves to be stickied (and I cannot sticky it in the GD). Awesome tool, Asterelle!

I just refined a cascade glow helm to +12 with 307 mirages, 6 tienkangs, and a bunch of d.orbs. Total cost 584,515,000 coins. Don't know if that's good or not. XD I'd never get something to +12 in all likelihood. b:chuckle

So I did something kinda different. I know several people who claim moving to a different NPC or coming back later seemed to help them refine using mirages and such when they are having bad luck. I myself think it's probably the act of clearing the refine box of fails/successes that affects refine success because I feel like it resets something or something. Just superstition of course but I decided to check it out. I only did a very small sample size this time around because i'm tired and my hand hurts. Anyway, I decided to use mirages continuously to get to +4 and to also cancel out as if I was coming back later/moving npcs every time it failed an excessive number of times. To see if I got better results. For the purposes of my experiment an excessive number of fails was 5 of them.

That was my result. It's obviously too small a sample size to conclude anything, especially when given the excessively bad luck I had with trial 1. But it did seem to be cheaper to come back later or switch NPCs then it did to continuously refine it. Obviously coming back later does affect my luck to some extent. XD

Thanks for the sticky but I think people are having a hard time finding in this subforum if they don't already know about it. Could you leave it in general discussion for a few days before moving it here?

Maybe I should write a series of challenges / Achievements...

1) Get a +5 refine in under 100 mirages (no orbs allowed).
2) Refine to +7 using less than 10m coins.
3) Refine to +6 using only mirages.
4) Get a +12 refine using less than 200m coins.
5) Refine everything to +6 without orbs.

stuff like that.

I would suggest adding an optional "quantity possessed" value to mirages, refine aids and orbs. Obviously it'd decrease every time you use one of said items.

In an early plan I was going to make you buy mirages/refining aids from catshops (with comparison shopping) and have to go to a jewelcrafter to manufacture dragon orbs out of 1 stars b:surrender

Those features got cut though

so sad.
