Is this game FUN anymore?

So, before I start, there's a few things.

1) This is going to be a long post. If you have ADHD, or ADDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD, don't like reading a lot, are illiterate, or you have a phobia of long pieces of text, then please, by all means, use the 'back' button on your browser. Replies of 'tl;dr' are more a waste of your time than mine.
2) This is NOT intended as a troll post, I'm looking for honest replies.
3) This is not an attempt to change this game, the players, guild policies, or anyone's opinion.
4) If Bearish isn't banned yet, I won't mind a complete repost of this with some key idea changed, as I do enjoy satire, even of serious things.
5) It's not intended to insult any specific factions, specific players, or anything of that nature.

That being out of the way, I'll begin to tread on these slippery slopes.

I started playing in 2008. I was one of the first cash shoppers, having bought an Israfel about 2 weeks after they were put into the Boutique, and I leveled the 'old fashioned way'. But, the key was, I enjoyed the game. It was fun. It was based on teamwork, but nobody took it too seriously, except maybe a few hardcore MMO gamers who had played everything else at that time and were looking to be 'the best of the best'.

As time went on, there were some major changes. Genies, Sins, Psys, world map expansions, Nirvana, and of course, Packs. 5.0 became huge, but I always could find the time to have fun. Doing TT3-3 barbless and clericless, TT runs for newer friends, hanging out with facmates, all kinds of things. Oh yes, the endless hours spent in FCC, doing the same thing over and over again, just with different people, at different times, with varying amounts of success.

Then came Hyper-n00bs. Suddenly, 105 is the ultimate goal, and getting there as fast as possible (or 101, 102, whatever). I realized how much this ended MY fun when I couldn't find a BH29 for lowbie alts anymore. It got worse when BH39, BH51, and finally, BH59 became almost impossible to find, and in BH69, I ran into more than a few players who had never once done anything but go to FCC with their character, and had no idea what to do.

But I adapted, and started grinding my alts to 75, then doing FCC's.

Except now, there is nobody DOING FCC anymore. Wanna go into FCC? Awesome. Buy heads. After 2 months of being unable to find an FCC squad for my CLERIC, I gave up on it. Sure, I can solo FCC on my BM, Sin, or even Barb, but seriously, I will shoot myself if I have to spend that much time alone. I soloed my Sin from 95 to 101 in FCC, and that was well more than enough for me. My BM was lucky and managed to squad FCC up to 100.

So, now the only thing left to do for fun is TW. It's a chance I get once a week to hang out with my friends.

If you're waiting for something along the lines of 'except now...', then you found it.

Now, if you're in an endgame Faction (actually this has been going on for a long time), the factions have 'no alt' lists, where they list other factions, and you cannot have an alt in any of them if they're listed.

So, TW is dieing off for me now as people choose my friends for me. TW's are no longer held 'for fun', but as some kind of professional organization.

So, if you are in a top tier TW faction, and half your friends are in another faction, even one that's not top tier, you aren't allowed to hang out with them if your main faction decides to disallow you to. Sure, you could ignore the 'no alt' list, but then you risk getting kicked from the top tier faction.

The next thing I see happening is a 'no squadding' rule. So if you want to squad with people from a 'banned faction', you can't.

So, do you find this game to be fun, did you quit, or something else?

(Personally, I'm getting extremely close to deleting all of my characters, and never coming back. But, that is just me. Also, IB4 don'tletthedoorhityourassonyourwayout replies.)

I get my fun from hanging out with my friends and doing stuff with them. A lot of the fun has gone out the window though to me. I do miss the days of questing and meeting new people. Now your lucky if you see a person out questing were you are.

I didn't read all, but if your faction treaten you to kick if you squad with your friends you should leave by yourself, there's any leader in that game who will decide with who i can squad or not.

I put my alts where i want and if they are not happy with it and want to kick me i don't care cause it's a game and i will not stay in a faction which gonna order me what to do in game.

Sometime the biggest faction are the worse and you look like to don't be able to enjoy the game cause your faction restrictions, maybe its time to think to try a new one? If your ''friends'' from your actual faction stop talking to you cause you leave or get kick well i'm sorry to say that they are maybe not as good friends as you though, true friends will respect your choice, maybe not like it, but will respect it if that make you happy.

so before leave the game maybe just try a little friendly faction, which doesn't care where your friends and alts are.

No it's not, I was going to post a huge wall and stuff, but I realized there's nothing I can really say that you don't already know or that I haven't already said.

Anyways, The only few things I ever found any fun in doing was PKing, or doing TW every weekend, but, I quit and found myself happy at quitting and moving on.

Geez even on LC the top tier factions don't even kick for squading with rival factions. Unless it is PK of course. But seriously that is not something I would expect on sanctuary o.o

I still completely enjoy the game. I simply ignore what I do not enjoy, which is fairly easy. This may be because Im new to the whole MMO scene (didnt even know what PvP meant, lmao, lucky I picked a PvE server), but I have a very slow pace, and Im good with it. I gather friends and we go challenge ourselves.

I remember fondly our first FB19. No idea what we're doing, but still pull it off with 3 2x's and lacking IH stacking knowledge. (seriously, who would have guessed? b:chuckle)

Experience hasnt changed much since then. Countless deaths at the hands of Qingzi, blundering into Eden as lvl 19 winged elves because we were just exploring the map (curse those rabbits), not knowing what a BH was until our 70s, "TT gear? What? I dont even...", etc, etc. Pro we were not.

Sometimes I think Im just oblivious to the rest of the game's community. Oh well. b:shutup

Fun game, if you just let it be.

Yeah, im actually having fun on this game, im currently farming my nv gear and i met lots of ppl while doing it, so yeah, the ones that get bored are those who just cs to buy frost till 101 then buy r9, kill everyone and thats all.
Summarize: The game is actually fun unless u cs everything b:bye

I think maybe instead of quitting the game, you should just join a smaller TW faction. Yeah it will suck not being the best since that is obviously a fun aspect of the game for you. But at least you can be with your friends. I'm sure there must be at least one tw on your server that doesn't have such a stupid policy. It's not the game that is making it bad, it's that terrible policy that is causing you to be isolated from your friends. Friends who you could be making the most out of the game with. It's ultimately your decision but as yourself this, "What's the most important aspect of gameplay to me with this mmorpg? Being in the top faction and dominating or just goofing around with friends? Because deleting your toons won't let you have either of those.

Take a week or two off the game, and you won't even question whether or not you should keep playing. I was on the fence for a while and after a break you get some perspective and see that there are so many good new games out there that you will enjoy a lot more pretty much this was an awesome game but it's run its course. Well done too by outlining everything you meant by this thread, It nipped the 100s of "don't play then this games fine" in the bud.

Once a week for about 45 minutes it is. That's it for me though.

On LC, the faction with the most abandoned and TW only players is the largest landowner. That should tell you how the rest of the active community stacks up. It doesn't. Yes, it is quite sad.

It's also bizarre as f**k that I'm in-guild with previous 'lifelong' enemies. But I see where the game is going, so it's kind of fun, in retrospect...

Well... I TW for fun, not as a business, or anything like that. I am in a smaller TW faction. two, in fact, though one just got bumped off the map. The issue is actually sort of the opposite, a small number of people in a faction I am in were told to leave when it got put on a 'no alt' list. So, really, to a point, it stops being my decision at that point and the leader of the other faction. Which, I had eventually planned on putting in an application to join, but... I seriously don't want to be told to leave a faction I've been in for 4 years or to not bother filling out the application. I have friends in both. So... Whatever.

I've actually been gone from PWI, save for TW, for about 3 weeks now. I found a new game, sadly one run by PWE (so you know it's gonna go down the ****ter in a few months, maybe year at best).

I hadn't really been thinking about QUITTING, just taking a break, when I stopped playing. The issues with unable to find fun or enjoyment in the game were on my mind when I stopped playing, except I do find TW's to be fun, to a point. But, if that changes, I have no problem with throwing away 4 years of work and effort to find something else to do. There ARE games that PWE doesn't have a deathgrip on, I'm pretty sure I can find something better than PWI was in 2008 that isn't some stupid company's cash cow.

Lol yeah I kinda had that in mind when looking for a new game making sure a year down the track they won't just flip a switch and say **** the playerbase we just was more money, so Kinda tried to avoid f2p.

But, if you read it, I intentionally left out specifics, so as not to troll, and laid out my issues, which is QQ, but not for QQ's sake.

Yeah, the faction rivalry really is ridiculous on sanctuary. The server is dominated by two rivalling 'alliances', PK/TW wise anyway. Now I have characters in both, with many people unaware that the characters belong to the same person. And it happened that people who like me when I'm playing the char they know, hated on me when I was playing my other character, for no reason other than there being an enemy's icon above my head. I wasn't acting any different, nor had I killed anybody on that char. So yeah, the faction icon made them loathe a person they otherwise like. Apparently, I am wrong in my naive assumption that this is a game, and that you play games for fun...

Back to topic: For me, the fun I had in this game is pretty much gone. I'm online maybe half an hour daily these days, and frequently take breaks for days or weeks. It has gotten to the point where even highlevel (100+) PVE activities are really hard to find squads for, unless it's BH - and even then, it can easily take half an hour to find/fill a squad.
While I'm currently not having much fun playing the game itself, I find merchanting to be rather enjoyable still. So I'm going to continue doing that, until it gets boring, or I decide to spend all my money on gear so I can have some fun in PK for a while.

Oh, and unlike what many in this thread suggested, Sarra can't just look for a different faction if she still wants to TW (which seems to be the only thing she cares about). Simply for the fact that, at least on Sanctuary, the vast majority, if not all, of the active TW factions have adopted that policy. The 'easy going' TW factions are a lot of fun to be in, but they usually stop doing TWs 3-4 weeks after map reset, because by that time, all the r9+10 factions dominate the map.

What she's not mentioning, of course, is that the faction that asked that the alts be removed was double attacked by the faction she is in. It's not a social faction, it's a TW faction that regularly fields 50-70 for TW. (#6 or so on our server?)

So yeah, the alts were asked to be removed if they were gonna be attacking us from now on. Which they did. Without public complaint. A few seem confused as to why the attack was made, and most are fiercely supportive of their main faction.

Yay for not telling whole story.

Heh... looking at the OP's long a$$ post I figured that it was less about the game actually being "fun" (and this coming from me who normally sympathizes with such posts), and more about just generally b*tching about the fact that her main TW faction has finally started clamping down on the kind of nonsense you described above.

The fact that the OP's alt might not have actually been among those taking part in the attack on her main faction is irrelevant... TW is indeed serious business and TW factions have a right to clamp down on rogue alts potentially playing both sides of the field. You don't like it ?

Then GTFO. She seriously can't expect to have your cake and eat it too.

No one is forcing you or anybody else to stay in a faction you don't like or feel is too restrictive in it's policies. Likewise, nobody can force a TW faction to put up with players whose alts reside in other TW factions that end up ganking them. Everyone has choices you know... just like in real life ? b:bye

Well, first off, I'm only in one of the factions.

Second, the faction I'm in has no such restrictions.

Why does TW have to be such serious business? It's part of a game. You play games with friends.

In the past, I have tried my damndest to get PWE to stop ****ing this game over with a whale ****. Even when I was pissed off to the point of seeing red over changes that Wanmei made, PWE's complete disrespect of the players, and friends quitting for other games, I still found fun things to do, and had friends to hang out with.

That seems to be coming to an end, and this time, it's something the players are doing, not Wanmei, not PWE. (Though, the newest content update was... Another step down '**** path', I mean... A daily to kill 10 mobs? REALLY? Why not just GIVE us everything from the Shroud/Corona/Luminance factions for free, would have saved everyone time.)

The point of this post was to figure out if I was the only one in this situation, or if other people felt the same way.

Well... You missed some of the point here.

If TW factions have these stupid rules, which only thuuper hardcore TWers find sane, and they decide to take the fun away from everyone who isn't a thuuuper hardcore TWer (cash shopper or super long term merchant is kind of required for this now, too), then they're gonna start driving people away from the entire game that would like to TW for fun.

In the end, there's gonna be one color on every map, which is one thing I've had pride in Sanctuary for avoiding for such a long period of time. Hey, play to win, even if there's no competition.

Let me put it this way. If factions were only allowed to TW on a TW map with similar power factions, and say, the top handful of factions couldn't attack, or would be forced to defend against, a much much weaker faction, do you think there would be MORE, or LESS activity come TW Weekend?

My oldest in game friend namecalling because my faction pulled alts from her faction. Neither of us was effected, and the move was imo justified.

And TW is for fun to you? Really?

Guess she was serious when she said she's not allowed to hang with kids outside her faction...
