This **** is beyond pitiful, whenever I come on these forums just to see whats up with my old beloved server all I see is this bullcrap "no skill this, r9 that, you guys dont know what true PvP is because YOU WERENT AROUND IN THE OLD DAYS before cash was the factor"...Really?

Thats hands down one of the DUMBEST things I've ever heard because if you recall, ALL THE OLD SCHOOL NAMES were... you guessed it; CASHSHOPPERS.

Lets take a trip down memory lane shall we?

ULMOS- Ha, cant forget 2nd day calam axes
Proclivity- You cant forget that big Nix following her around.
Big Fluffy- He was a boss... and a Cser lol
Dreamery (reversed name)- Mhm, he wasnt one of the first 4.0 sins for nothing.
Proski- now this was one of the people I believed didnt cash shop, but then again he did get left in the dust for a while there; perseverance really does help huh?
PulseofHell- Yep. Cash shopper. I remember when he was beyond noob setting in the Narla guild list as a slightly average player; now look at him at the top of the charts and sh*t (so ive read)
Zhadi- hahahaha I remember 1 shotting him, with his Lunar Bracers now im sure he can 1 shot me

. He was one of the few old players who didnt give a damn about major outranked levels and gear and just went out for the fun of it.
Soochi- Bahahahaha I just read the "Grats PWI" when they classified Soochi as one of the good pvpers and all i can remember is hearing her say "Dark Dartle is a horrible skill book, 33% doesnt even do much" [/nuffsaid]
Nahtkuul, Cable, meatbunz, Mango, me. ALL CASHSHOPPERS. Maybe not as hardcore as the next but all of us did.

Thats just to name a few that i remember (my memory is kinda hazy, havent played this game since the summer after this server came out)

Now check this out, and this is going to blow your minds; just like there were good and bad players then.... THERE ARE GOOD AND BAD PLAYERS NOW!!! Shocking Right?

Im sure there are players that could go out into a west gate and wipe the group just like there are players that couldnt kill tt99 geared clerics if they tried even if they outgeared the sh*t about them... its not about the era you played its about the way you play the game.

Sure, it as gotten easy for some classes to excel now that these rep sales have went out of control (Sin and Psychics as main examples) but thats the thing; you learn to adapt as you go just as we adapted back then.

Some of the people will never know what people like proski are talking about when he talks about the epic old school battles at Heavens tear and Hidden orchid among others just like I wont have the slightest clue what youre talking about in the Latest TW report.

Some players will rise above some will sink to the bottom, thats the circle of life. Just go out and play the game; everything in this game can be obtained by anyone. It just depends if you have to work for it or notb:surrender

Oh and PS, if your playing a private server of this very game you WILL be back to this form sooner or later. Doesnt matter how long or why you left, you WILL be back in some way or form... Just a random fact b:bye

I'm not going to cashshop because a) if I wanted to spend money on a game, I'd play a P2P one b) it's just too much hassle and c) the priv servers are there so you can give vent to your ambition and make a wonderful character wearing unreleased fashion in minutes, without paying a cent. It's not a matter of playing like the pre-shop players did.

But then I'm in PvP just for the lulz. I'm not planning to be able to defend myself from PK at all. b:chuckle

1000$'s then didn't take you as far or create as large of a gear gap as it does now.

Take zhadi as your example. Went so far as to get R8 before there ever was a sale 1000$'s invested from a raffle at Gamestop. A few months later R8 sold for 71$'s and R9 less than what he spent on R8.

You could have someone who had R8 (Zhadi), and someone like me, who spent about half that (over 3 years), and I could still beat him 1v1.

The gear gap then was still manageable. It still required farming of TT for mats.

As for your argument, "it's not when you PK but how you PK", that's garbage. It's, "how you PK, when you PK".

ArchCaoCao spent triple what I did to make a Godly Psy, that I could still beat 1v1. Take the same cash and apply it to now, I could probably only afford R8 with decent sockets. He could (and does) afford something like full R9 JSOD.

Fact being, the good ol' days, were better.

Fact being, there are good and bad players, all the time.

Fact being, that good and bad players are more easily disintinguishable in an enviroment when the gear gap is close even when large and small amounts of cash are being spent.

And... fact being... I'm at the top of your list.

true but even for the time, a cs vs non cash shop view, it was a very considerable gap. We shot up to the 90s in the matter of weeks; we had legendary gear for days & at those cash shopping days, virtually no one had r8... in a matter of fact i dont remember 1 person r8 when i left.

zhadis money was spent in a very wide specterum of stuff, like we all know; lunar bracers & lunar bows arent exactly cheap... even with the dumbed down state of the game.

come on bud, we both know the TT runs were a joke at best unless you were literally the first to get to the TTs and sell mats for Crazy amounts (HELLO MEATBUNZ lol)

Lol, you're reaching. Prime Example: Assassins. In the early days of the server I utilized DPH because I wanted to 1/2 shot and stealth before anyone know i was there BUT a DPS assassin (could) have had a similar K/D ratio using their ****. Not to mention it would progress with the game (aka DPS is endgame build).

Also you should know the limits of your choice. Example, pick to take out a Barb outta stealth because i dont have the firepower for that bs...but id hit up the cleric . Next.

I wanted to be one of a kind and for many months, I was.

If I had wanted to be OP, I would've taken all the money I put into r8 towards Nirvana with +12 full gear which would've made me unkillable and a killing machine back then. But I didn't. I wanted something unique, which is what I played for.

Now that it's impossible to be unique, the game is boring to me, and so for many many many months, the game has not been installed on my computer.

@ Ulmos - correct, gear spread now is unreal compared to earlier in the game, although panzer nirvana + vit stones, etc was a considerable difference as well . . . .

Every year they come out with new gear for less money to make obsolete what the cash shoppers purchased last year. tt99 used to be the best, rank 8 made it a joke and rank 9 made rank 8 a joke and this third cast nirvana and other stuff rumored to come will make rank 9 look like a joke.

And a new crop of people joining this game will come on, buy the "new" best gear, beat up on the prior generation of cash shoppers who don't spend an additional insane amount of money on the game and think its their skill and we will all say its just their gear.

Coming in 2014 to a pwi server near you - 4th cast nirvana and rank 11 gear!

It's a flaw in the game that is in some respects brilliant to keep kids with big wallets and even bigger egos spending money on this game. I, as proski used to say, am/was merely a "casual" cash shopper. I just wanted to be able to play - because after spending so many years waiting for Diablo III that I just don't care about it anymore, this is still the best game I have been able to find - unfortunately. That, and the mere thought of learning a new game from scratch is a bit daunting at my old age. But here's hoping a new entrant this month changes all that.

The fact that I rerolled on a server in my time zone doesn't make it seem as though I am terribly hopeful that will actually happen though, does it?

Just wanted to say, half the people complaining about the old days have r9 now anyway. So like pretty much they have no place to complain about a huge difference in gear.

Despite the difference in gear right now, I'm still pretty sure back then, cash shoppers were still on top.
I mean, considering everyone else was probably tt90 or 70 with +1 - +3 refines and the csers were tt100 and tt99 with +6 /+7 refines and +10 helms etc,
the power difference in that gear is pretty big tbh.
I mean I remember seeings some peoples gear, +10 warsoul helmets, +7 tt99 with vit stones.

The difference between r8 and tt99/100 is not a big deal.
The difference between r8 and r9 yes, it's quite a big gap.
But just because someone is r9 doesnt mean they 1 shot everyone with lesser gear. I'm just saying it takes me a lot longer than 10 seconds to kill some rank 8 people, they're definitely not a 1 shot if they know how to play their class properly.

I fell off my chair while reading this. I suppose one might live for longer than 10s but one would also have no chance of killing the said R9 while holypathing further and further away. Of course there is Apos, genie skills and some immunity skills. But most of the time one has to be under some dmg reduction prior to first hit to not get 1shot. The only skill involved in not getting 1shot is popping some dmg reduction/immunity prior to getting hit.

I go and turtle, become unkillable for 20s, does that mean a balance between R8 and R9? Or what if I pop IG? Heck, let me do the "IG trick", does that mean "good at my class"? Point being, it`s irrelevant, I still wont be able to be any threat to the R9 if I go and pop things just to trying to fight back. It takes a lot more resources to use immunities offensively than defensively. Sadly fighting refined R9 w/o immunities/dmg reductions is pretty much matter of getting 1 or 3 shot.

And fyi I've taken my rank 9 gear off many times to 1v1 people with lesser gear.
Pk is pk, I enjoy 1v1s, makes me learn my class better.

Another thing, superheals is pro at cleric in pvp. Despite him only having r8, he survives really well, even against my rank 9 gear. And when we 1v1 with r8 gear, the fight lasts really long.
Holy path kiting, and skills all play a part in pk, whether you like it or not.

And just so you know, we're not cheap we dont use immune pots in pk mode but what would you know, you dont pk anyways.
