Hi all

I think there're a few users out there who are using Macbooks/Linux to run PWI via Crossover games. Well, since the update for the new expansion I haven't been able to get the client to start and I can't pull an error log for it so I'm not sure what exactly is the problem. There seems to have been a thread started with the same problem on Codeweavers forums, but if anyone has info on how to fix it, do let me know b:thanks

Regards,
E

Start the patcher from terminal, that should get you an error log

edit: I'm patching normaly, just have to be carefull to no put the mous on the patcher icons or it will freeze and force me to start up from scratch again.

Using wine (last stable release) on ubuntu 11.10

will only work with wine 1.4 now?

Have you also tried the 1.2.3 version to see which one is more stable?

I can play more than 24 hours with 1.4_rc3

You can try with 1.2.3 but you will get more errors...b:shocked

Last time i used the unstable version, i was presented with auto path errors and wrong icons for itens and skills.

You needed to do anything about those things? Or does it just run flawlessly?

You need to install with winetricks: vcrun2005 for get the right icons and not the wrong icons.

I use this version for set catshop... only crash the client the second day LOL = 48 hours online xD. Well for me it go faster than light LOL.

Well... try it with your hands. b:victory

I managed to install the patch just fine downloading it from the link posted on the forum, but now the game won't run anymore :( It starts loading but stops almost immediately and the window disappears. The last error message says something like "Not a JPEG image".

Any ideas? I don't think that it is necessary to install the whole DirectX package, unless the devs moved from DirectX 9 to 10 ...

    Help pleaseeee!

Thanks for the heads up on the redistributables. I had direct x 9 installed on the bottle but was missing those. Followed your tip as well as another's suggestion and installed both C++ Runtime 2008 and 2005 and the client is now working smoothly. Cheers! :D

Actually the message seems to imply that a file that's supposed to be a JPEG image, it's not. Can you confirm that installing Directx9c is now necessary for the game to run?

    Thank you in advance.

If you're not sure where to find the components, an easy way to do it is through the updated C4P/Cross Tie. You can download the crosstie from the PWI section on the codeweavers website, then run it and select your existing bottle with PWI installed on it. Start the installation process, but cancel the things you don't need (i.e. stop the step where it redownloads the client, but let it download and install the Runtime components).

EDIT: I've checked the crosstie again and seems as if everything you need is there. The components you want installed/added on are Direct X 9, C++ 6.0, 2005 and 2008. You can ignore the Pando and PWI client downloads.

    Hope that helps

    Yay, non-Windows users. \o/

I'm using Wineskin Winery on my MacBook to run PWI. I had it running smoothly from November 2011 until this afternoon when I attempted to open launcher.exe (I usually open elementclient.exe directly). I uninstalled everything and reinstalled in a new wrapper and have all the correct Winetricks packages I need, but the Launcher still refuses to open. I notice in the top left corner a small window pop up and immediately disappear. I can't guess what it is.

For my past few attempts at opening elementclient.exe directly (without having updated since the Launcher is unable to open), Gecko attempts to install but fails because "control.exe has encountered a serious problem." I did a search for control.exe and found one in system32 as well as the dllcache.

Basically, at this point, I have no idea how to proceed. Any solutions?

EDIT: I got the new engine 1.4_r3 as Christian mentioned and downloaded DirectX using it and installed the ms c++ 2005 trial and express using winetricks. That got me a step forward where when I try to open the client, it would go full screen, show a black screen with the game cursor on it for a bit, then crash before opening/showing the client...any further instructions? b:surrender

Have you already gotten the Launcher to update? Or are you just opening elementclient.exe - The PWI Genesis version - to see if it even will open?

I should go get the vcrun 2005 one instead of the 2010. Let's see what progress will be made.

My launcher had opened fine and has already been updated to the new expansion but I did that before updating to the new wine and stuff. My launcher used to open fine but when I clicked on the start nothing would happen, basically. Now after installing the new wine 1.4_r3 and downloading DirectX on it, when I try to open the launcher, I would get this error
Unhandled exception: unimplemented function msvcrt.dll._localtime64 called in 32-bit code (0x7bc3eff8).

Now, if I try to open directly the elementclient.exe, it would show a black screen with the game cursor but it will crash right away...

Days like these when I wish I knew what all that code means. I'm verifying my files right now; I figured I'd rather do that before I go back to attempting to open Launcher. When I opened the manual update via my PWI Wrapper earlier, however, I DID get a notification that "Update and Client are the same," or something to that effect. But as of right now, I don't want to make any assumptions as to what that would entail. I too hope an easier solution walks by though. xD

EDIT: I recall updating my Engine to 1.4_r3 last night and opening elementclient.exe directly; it worked fine then. My issue is primarily with the Launcher. :l

Rofl. My launcher works fine on engine 1.2.3 but it won't get the game started. It doesn't work on 1.4_r3...Neither does my elementclient.exe. Don't know how you got it working. QQ

You forgot to install internet explorer... (I know how odd this may seems to be).

If the client fails at the inicial loading screen, then this is, most likely, the thing to do in order to solve it.

install it with winetricks... ie 7 or evem more recent should be enough.
    Trolling since September 2008b:victory

Don't worry. I might stop trolling and say something useful... One day....

ie 8 is installed on both engines...and still no progress. I even tried making a new wrapper and putting PWi on it with engine 1.4_r3 and ie 8 installed it but not DirectX and neither does the launcher nor the elementclient.exe work.. In my original wrapper that I always use, the 1.2.3 will open the launcher but not the game, and if I change the engine to 1.4_r3, the game cursor will appear on a black screen but crash shortly afterwards..

EDIT: There honestly must be some small thing missing with my 1.2.3 engine because the launcher loads fine, it's just when I click start...nothing happens and it just crashes...
