Something I've been noticing...

Atleast on HL is the mentality that "i'm not gonna help you, so help yourself."
Now, I know I have mains that can solo just about every boss for my nabwizard, but I'm unable to multiclient because this computer can't handle 2 clients at once, der. So I have to stick with asking friends/guildies and when that doesn't work, I normally go to the boss location and wait a bit for someone to come along, and if that doesn't work, I WC for someone.

Now, I decided to go to the one boss I needed and saw a BM about to kill said boss. I proceeded to ask her for help but in return I got this really rude attitude, her telling me she doesn't play this game for other people and that I was going to be blacklisted. Wut? I can see there is a line between asking for help on normal mobs and asking for help with bosses that you are otherwise unable to solo. And lets be honest, there's not enough lowbies to actually form a squad to kill the boss together these days. I really don't understand how she's "playing the game for me" and I'm sure at one point in her "high horse career", she received help from someone, because in an MMO, you need others to help you proceed. Otherwise, play a console game.

Anyway, I was sitting around Arch browsing catshops when a guild started advertising (and I did see a different guild the other day doing the same thing) with the taglines of "we don't help, get your own help". Just. Wut. What are guilds for? Unicorns and rainbows and puked up glitter? The main purpose of a guild is to help and get help, aside from the obvious TW. Then again, how is anyone supposed to compete in TW when the guild won't even help them with gears or bosses? b:surrender

So, it is just HL or have other servers been having this problem?

Never seen it on LC....but then again i usually play this 101 bm so I can do **** myself and I tend to ignore people a lot....

I normally don't see it but then again, I do most of my stuff for alts by myself. If Grav can't do it, my sin can. If my sin can't, I have a hubby to help. However, I am often given rude replies if I can't help someone at a particular moment (e.g. I have to afk soon and can't stay to help) or if I refuse to sell at someone's ridiculously low price. Guild-wise... there are bad and good guilds. In the past seven months, I've been a part of a very helpful faction. That means a lot, having come from the faction full of the server's asshats.

First off, any and every single game will always have people like the BM you mentioned. It's not something new and it's not something unique - people will always be rude and unhelpful simply because they exist. Not everyone that plays an MMO does it for other people. There are thousands of people that log on, talk to nobody help nobody and log off without interacting with any other players at all.
Secondly, no, not all guilds are for helping each other. When you're 101+ there really isn't any point to level or quest at all. What help do you need? Farming TT for monetary purposes isn't the same thing as killing mobs for an NPC. Some guilds are purely PvP and TW oriented and don't want people who ask for assistance for Venomous Ghouls or Aboride Dryads. They log in, kill people, log off. Gear gear, get skills, play for PvP.

All in all I am concluding that you took two completely separate incidences and combined them to make a whiny, ignorant and asinine topic about the declining state of a game that is completely based around its community - of which you had a measly two bad experiences with.

Yeah, like I said, being unable to multiclient limits what I can do for myself, but ofc I have friends and guildies to help. The only time I do ask for help from randoms is when all else falls through. I can see why a bunch of newbies don't stay in this game, esp if the mentality is passed through to the other servers and some just don't notice it because they don't need the help.

Also, for the troll above. The guilds were recruiting for 80+, by no means is that endgame sooo. And no one said anything about venomous ghouls and dryads, I was talking about bosses. (READ: those things that are unsoloable unless you plevel all the way to 100 then do quests.) Thirdly, these are only the latest 3 experiences I've had with people unwilling to help when it's quite obvious that they received help at some point in the game. Go troll somewhere else.

If you're on an alt, by the time you switch to your main and get to where they were, they're already gone. Otherwise I would of logged my cleric for that BM . b:chuckle

While I'm at it, lrn2read again because I did mention that I have friends that can help, but when they aren't available I go to a different plan. (Impatient person who likes to have quests done asap.)

If you want, I can pm you the full screenshot without names blocked out (I was too lazy to just blur the names out hence the crappy chopping.) I don't know if posting with names attached would be considered namin and shaming. Not that i'm worried I'll get in trouble, but I cba to have it edited out of my post.

edit: to further explain how it happened...

I go to the boss I need. I see a psy flying next to the boss, so I pm her and ask if she needs it too. She doesn't return my pm til much later (you can see where she wc'd me). I noticed someone was hitting the boss so I pressed T and highlighted this BM. I then sent a squad invite but it was never accepted, so I pm'd her saying that I needed the boss too and if she could help. That's when she said the screenshotted text. It's obviously cut off because of my **** of censoring names. The first pm says "Yeah not much of a squad person" and the other cropped one says "i'm not here to play the game for others"

Can't really say I got that ever. Normally people just will help, and so do I.
If everything fails, faction and friends.

Sanc might have its bad apples but the better part of the server is nice.

Edit: And damn you nightmare. Your venos name is too similar too mine. lol Had some nub on the mystic forums insist on me being you ~_~
