And Venus is right, they have stated in the past that sharing these files is fine. In more than one thread, if I'm correct. I'm sure I've seen it somewhere that COPYING the files and PASTING them into the folders is fine.

Thank you the second two links are the ones I was looking for and had seen before. But I couldn't find them. Couple that with Frankie's okay for that ini sharing contest and it becomes clear that this is a rule reversal and should have been announced and explained so that the rules are clear. Instead of leaving us so confused.

Guys, I just sent the GMs a message since they don't check fanatics often and you should do the same. I just sent a pm to Do0cracy, Frankieraye, Genotypist and MonkeyShatter which are the GMs that post on a regular basis. I haven't seen sihndra even though he is awesome so I didn't include him but include if you want to.

Frankie, I think this was a silly thing to do, deleting everyone's hard work. How would you feel if you worked on a character for a long period of time, then find it completely gone the next day?

I don't understand.. we're not getting 5APS or invincibility from making our chars have EG/TB eyes/hair - we're only using the graphics to aesthetically improve our characters appearance. I'd LOVE to have the skin the EG have on my chars, heck, I've seen EG skin on a Tideborn that looked chuffing brilliant. And who would'nt want a mohawk on their barbarian?

I would only agree that using ini editing to make your char stick thin so you can't click on them in TW/PK is unacceptable, other then that, I'm highly disappointed in you for doing this, all the other mods and GMs found it acceptable, so why can't you?

I would also like an answer to this. As I find it very odd that some rules are being enforced heavily, while others have a "blind eye" on them. It's like some sort of "double standard" (if that's the correct term for this example).

It's a crapload of hypocracy. They bascialled ignored goon glitchers who gained an obvious gaming advantage but ban people with pretty chars that do nothing but look nice. Don't understand and don't support at all.

Erm I feel a bit odd and out of place by not sounding all angry(xDD), but...
I feel like I should refer to when this:

barb happened because some game-person was messing with the presets, people freaked out for a little while, and the mods on here let people use it because it was there xD
Now those barbs were really different than anything else on the market, and still got no advantage in-game, either... except mayhaps for looking hilarious and startling people who didn't know about them in squads xwx

As far as all this, I think it's not so much about the ini edits as the fact Frankie told us to take everything down, edited or not. I completely agree, of course, the EG eyes and the other hairs aren't hurting anything and only serve to enhance characters that have.. Fallen behind. I, personally, would prefer to keep this about the file sharing issue. There are plenty of threads arguing the ini editing problem. b:surrender

Could you please clarify what codes need to be removed. Is it only the ones that have been ini edited or all of them? Because you already gave us permission to use codes to share characters in another thread. http://pwi-forum.perfectworld.com/showpost.php?p=15357711&postcount=27 here you said it is okay to share ini file data. Another GM a really long time ago also gave one poster permission to let their friends create characters for them and said sharing character data is allowed as long as there no attempts made by either party to modify the character data.

In addition you must copy and pasta data into the element client file to use the reference pictures function. That particular IN-GAME FEATURE is not able to be used if we cannot do something that simple. So copy and pasting data into that folder is already also allowed.

What isn't allowed is editing the character data outside of the character creator and showing others how to do so. For example giving earthguard eyes to older classes.


This has been your company's stance as I have understood it. All characters with EG eyes have posted were originally created on an empty slot on the EU servers. The EU GMs have a different rule about it so I am not breaking any rules by doing so. I shared them here but I guess that isn't okay and I can certainly repost those to the European server if that is the problem.

At least I thought this is how the rules worked. If not we are going to need some clarification.

Well, yeah, I agree 110%.
As for the barb if that statement is at all directed towards it(my judgment is everywhere right now) I think I was just going more with the 'and no advantage was gained by having a... euh pretty(bobblehead barbxD) character because sharing took place. I don't know what my reasoning was actually, lol

I'll attempt to clear all of this up.


First off, this post was in regard to a player asking if it was ok to be sent an .ini code file, not whether it was ok to post the .ini code on the forums. Files cannot be sent using the forums in the first place, so this action would be out of PWE's jurisdiction to keep from happening.


Secondly, it's true that the admin/mod team has been inconsistent about the rules regarding posting .ini codes in the forum for the past 3.5 years, so I'll just set it straight right now.


Editing .ini files is a violation of the Terms of Service because it's considered "modifying game files" (section 9-d). Whether you edit them to be within the normal graphical rules of the game or not, simply the act of editing them is technically not allowed.


Likewise, posting instructions on how to modify the .ini files is not allowed on the forums. Posting actual code of the .ini file falls into this realm as well. Again, whether or not the .ini values fall into the realm of "possible through the use of the ingame sliders", is irrelevant, as it is the act of modifying the values outside of the game interface that is illegal.


So I hope this clears things up, and I'm sorry about the confusion. I'm not doling out disciplinary action for the people who have already posted code here, I'm just asking those posters to remove their code as soon as possible.


To the folks whose code I manually removed before requesting that it be removed, I'm pm'ing you the codes that I am able to retreive -- unfortunately not all of them are retrievable using my admin tools. To those whose code I am unable to retrieve, I'm sorry for that loss -- I'm just trying to enforce forum rules as best as I can.

The official PWI forums are the only forums that we have jurisdiction over, so you can definitely post anything you want on unaffiliated forums. Keep in mind, though, that posting links on this forum to that content wouldn't be allowed.

I'm sorry but this is just ridiculous and a ridiculous rule in the first place. Bring back goons so I can boost to 105 like everyone else or ban the players for a longer period of time (3 months should do) then I'll follow rules regarding ini edits but until then I feel you have no power on the boards to try and enforce rules.

Oh and try listening to the players who actually play this game because they like it, maybe then people would bother to follow rules and actually play the game again. Try reading all the threads people start in the general section regarding the state of the game instead of working on the next set of packs which will drag this game down further.

We have a right to be angry and blunt with our posts towards him even more so for the majority of people in this thread that spent time creating these characters to share with people out of the kindness of their heart to have such effort deleted, fair enough that he is going to PM these players and hopefully give their code back.

I'm angry that a small thing such as editing our characters looks is actually causing me to be angry when an obvious rule break and massively advantageous glitch was simply overlooked for months allowing people to achieve end game status in a matter of weeks. I'm sorry but to enforce a rule as ridiculous as this over a MASSIVE rule break in terms of advancing in the game is just even more ridiculous!

The goon glitchers were given a ban yes, but for how long? like 2 days and then was rewarded with x2 if i'm not mistaken! So not only did they break the rules but then were allowed to participate in x2 drops and farm nirvana. Great idea! I hope if I commit murder I will be in jail for 2 days then have a months long festival celebrating my life!!

Obviously the GMs are not doing their job at PWE HQ and that is just wrong, everyone says that the game is going to die and right now I fully believe them. I said it before but PWE needs to listen to its players and not the kerching sound ringing in their ears at the thought of another dreadful pack sale.

And yes I'm going to rant in this thread to Frankie, apologies to the OP but at least he has replied here and a mod has not come along and closed everything to hide the truth like they always do.

And there really isn't anything we can do about it now. It really really sucks they've changed their mind about letting us post ini files when they are NOT edited outside of the client. Posting them alters the ini in noway. But whatever. I'm done being mad about this. From now on when a new player asks me to help them, I'm going to tell them the GMs do not allow older players to help with character creation.

I'm also thinking about deleting the perfect world files from my photobucket. This thread, it has apparently been a decent source of free advertisement for PWI and this ruling makes me feel like there is not a point in doing so anymore.

This is mostly just a PWI photobucket account, and the majority of the views are from this website. New players looking for help creating characters. They use google and find this thread. They are impressed and start playing. They also often make their own threads asking for help. Now they can't. I guess now though you guys will make a different first impression. One in which even helping someone make a legitimate character without modifying the files (and you DON"T have to modify the files in the client to share them btw) is a no-no.

PWE is truly bringing down these servers to the level of "Cash Cow".

They took away the original coin value of DQ items, gave us the DQ point shop thing, then proceeded to take out a very nice and useful item out from it. Packs out the ***. + 12 Dragon orb causes "client instability"(they ever fix that? lololol). Packs, packs, packs. Permanent Wraith Badge sale in CS. Hypers in FCC. Never listens to it's player base when it comes to improvements. Packspackspackspackspacks. Goon glitchers don't even get a rightful ban AND (and, and, and, AND) they even get a 2x event in their honor. Wait, don't forget packspackspackspackspacksFASHIONINPACKSPACKSALE. People want to customize their characters to the fullest? That's free! Forget about it! Sure, there is more on the list than just this, but eh.

Stupid topic in suggestions has been bumped for at least two years, iirc. I haven't even edited myself and I feel like a horrible vigilante for wanting to edit my character. People that should feel like horrible people, are walking around with chars named "FCCGlItChEdSiN" and the like. They asked us to move on from this, as well. They don't realize that no one will ever move on from this, unless they ban all the people who were wronged in this or actually FIX SOMETHING(dirty words, someone wash my mouth out with soap!!).

I want to love this game, I truly do. I appreciate the aesthetics of this game. It's my favorite aspect of it(really, of any game). Fashion, creating characters, all of it. This game has/had so much potential. People are getting banned for trying to enjoy the game's character customization factor to it's fullest. People are getting reprimanded for doing something they were told was legal. Hard for me to love something like that.

I made the mistake of thinking PWE was starting to go in the right direction. I was wrong, I'm mature enough to admit it.

Sorry for the long-winded post. It's just weird to play an MMO that has no regard for it's playerbase. It's also 4am and I'm tired. b:surrender

Gotta say, I'm sad to see this thread go. It was a big help to me while I was making characters, at the very least as a starting point and for inspiration. But I'm content in a way. At least we were answered and things were cleared up.

I've never honestly had any direct dealing with GMs til now, and as such, all I had seen and heard was the players side of things. It's nice to see you aren't outright ignoring everything we have to say and at least cleared this up. I don't agree with the policies, but it's good to see you're not hiding from us.

This is bizarre since the whole point of the game storing presets in the client's userdata folder is so that you can share them with others. If they didn't want these to be shared the presets would have been stored on the server.

Well may i suggest that people can post the SS of the face of the char (and body) and if someone want it and if its not a .ini edit the person can post SS of the cuztomise screen parts so people can do it by themself without touching the files.

Ofc its a bit more job since people will need to take SS of each part (eyes mouth hair color etc.), but at least people will be able to share in a legal way.

I will like if Frankie can say if that way to do can be allowed.

It is allowed, Frankie suggested it himself once.

I'd rather just have some second forum to post them on or something, it's too hard to try to match it slider by slider and there's more room for error, even if you're just going to alter it to your liking. I like a foolproof base to work with (AKA the actual file), so I don't end up **** it up and making the original look wonky to have my character be a botched mess.
