Honestly though, I don't get why these threads keep getting made and I was here before BHs and when genies were brand spanking new and bunch of people still thought they were pointless. Yes, a lot of things have changed but if you don't enjoy it, why play anymore? I reminiscence sometimes with others who started when I did, but beyond that I don't see the point of making a new thread solely for the purpose of telling new players how it was. Why rain on their parade if they enjoy it by complaining about how much better it used to be.
It's a video game, if you don't enjoy it anymore no one is holding a gun to your head. It's not a business and that money you spent isn't a real investment. Stop thinking of it that way, you don't sit in the movie theater's bathroom/lobby all day forlornly because your movie is over and you spent so much on it do you? No, because you spent your money to entertain yourself. IT entertained when you spent it, but eventually like all things it gets boring after a while. Also, I don't remember 100k gold, but I imagine it was also only for the hard core since you had to get it through grinding and most people were not level 100s with lucrative farming instances. I don't see all of the old players with more gold than they the could possibly ever spend because there wasn't all ton of stuff to buy and gold came so easy. In fact, when I look at those old threads I see a lot of people that wondered how to earn a good amount of gold in THAT economy too. And were given advice like don't teleport.
All this Lil thread is about is reminiscing and remember the "good old days" and how this game has jurrastically changed but since you want to go that route I'll ask you a question, have you ever thought people continued to play this game to recapture some brief moments of time which this game is the same as way back when? Just a questionEscorian - Dreamweaver wrote: »-.- i have ran into people who didnt know there was anything in fc past the heads
Ohh goodness, for once I wish one of the people took them to the "super mighty slash" boss and tell them they had to kill him to get to heads. Oh goodness I wish I could see the chat/instance on YouTube lmao.
And oh yeah hydra of course, and the mobs parading around the outside near the stones on the bottom that you tried to dodge alll the time lol.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -

Yes, it's just this thread has been made a thousand times over and i know for a fact that it's scared away new players since my brother's friend in Tennessee was one such player. If you want to reminisce that's fine, as I said I myself have done this but it seems like this threads when they are made to "educate" new players really only serve to rain on their parades. If they are having fun with the way it is now, why go on and on about how crappy this game is and tell them all the ways its gone downhill. It only presents one side of the issue and thus only serves to make them feel like the game can never get any better or have any improvements. That maybe they should just quit. Just because you aren't having fun anymore, why spoil someone elses?
It's not like all of the changes have been bad. Grinding for levels before BHs took way too long, the game was too much of a grindfest. What enjoyment is that for say a cleric, who just puts on a charm in BB and afks? The DQ point system has made dying your fashion affordable, which means you see prettier and more unique looks running around. Yes, some can argue that the medals should either have been left in the dq system or never been put in at all but the fact still stands that when China handed down the completely unfair dq coin nerf to prevent gold farming, Frankie and the PWI fought long and hard for us and introduced a great new system that now even gives us a way to make formerly useless items useful again. The rez buff on mystics has ended the longest standing cleric complaint there is, that they always have to lose all of their hard earned exp every single time they die. Rubber banding has been greatly fixed. There are more servers and the TW map was reset. Allowing more people to enjoy it even it was only for a little while. We have tab targetting now and autopath is better. Genies made everything easier and more fun, it even fixed another long standing complaint about some classes moving too slowly. Nirvana has great armor, people overlook that fact because Rank 9 is better but Nirvana is new and has some very nice gear.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Going to have to agree with this post. Yeah back in the old days a lot of stuff was fun the people were nicer and all that. But there has been a lot of improvements in area's. This thread i see surface 1-2 times a month people. Get over it, time move's on and so should you. Go look at screen shots if you want to live your old days.Ahira is a spyb:cryb:cryb:cry0 -

I am going to have agree with this one as well. Its good to think back on this but there is still alot of promise in the future. We all are human and errors do occur but the point of the game is to go at your own pace and gear how you feel suites you best.I hold all the keys to every realm... That's exactly what we are talking about, "grinding took too long" "look pretty and unique" "genies make everything easier".
From the moment they introduced oracles as a cash shop item this game went from f2p to p2p which in turn made this game "fast pace". You wanna know why they made all these changes?
The anni packs came out and after the first month of promises a large influx of people quit, the game developers knew this game was dying because they increase the leveling speed so exponentially that people would in fact grow tired of this game and quit, thus making them lose profit in the long run because they wanted to make a quick buck.
In turn they decided to cater to endgame, making anni packs in cs indefinitely, introducing hypers, bh and so on in order to get a large amount of people to endgame to stimulate their competitive drive every human has and use it for pvp instead of trying to level before the next person as it used to be...
Genies were introduced many because they were to help with pve and grinding to make sure people didn't die as quick and help with pvp but before they weren't Neccessary. Back when they were released some people used them and others didn't because we knew our classes well enough to do without but always could use them to enhance. Now they are a necessity due to this influx of hyper nubs who wouldn't know their classes potential from the keyboard they type on day after day.
Honestly, I believe whole hearted-ly that if they put this game to the time before anni packs and oracles except keeping the classes I believe people would think the game is more even, people would leave, and pwi would have a better long term income. Why? Because the lifespan on the average players game would be longer, getting pwi more loyal and good customers and these cash shoppers couldnt handle it so they would leave because it was "too hard" which is pathetic.
The difference between old and new players are the drive, you could see it in the amount of things we would go through because to us the game was FUN back then but the cs kiddies are dulling our gaming senses... That's what I think these threads are about and why they keep coming up.
It's an outcry for a good game which would be a win win for company and customer, but I guess they haven't understood yet[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -

You miss my point, there are many people that like the game just fine as is now. If you don't like it, there is no shortage of MMOs. You can't go back in time. Everything in this world changes, nothing is permanent. If you no longer enjoy a form of entertainment, move on. If you want to spend all of your energy on some cause and be a keyboard warrior, there are plenty of actually worthy causes that could benefit from that energy. All this complaining is only ruining the fun for others. And it spoils your fun too, if you focus solely on the negative you forget about the fun changes and spend your time complaining and getting mad instead of having fun. It can leave you bitter. There are plenty of fun things still to do in this game, and nothing is stopping you from going out there and saying you know what, I just want to have fun for an hour and getting an old fashioned squad together and helping with an fb or zhenning. In fact, I've done this a few time and had a lot of fun.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

The funniest thing is that no one ever said this was "bad", overall the only thing that was said that there was an adjustment to the gameplay that is, in many peoples eyes a substantial one.
You cut out the parts where I explained each one, I just explained that as much as people like this, they could like the old ways better. And likewise with the future statement, I hope so because the leaving to coming rate has lowered majorly before older times.. And I'm afraid the moderation of this game to the salary of the mods and gms/ developers would be deemed a liability more than an asset...
Let's hope the plan I foreseen works out for a while or like swizz beats says, it's "on to the next one"[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -

Let's see, I've helped organize two trips to Belize to build orphanages, sold coffee to raise several hundreds dollars for earthquake relief in Haiti, i like to play some charity games like this one http://www.freerice.com/, and do other charity works. I also working on two bachelors degrees. When I come to the game, I come to blow off some steam and have fun. The first hundred times I saw this thread I didn't say anything, I even agree with some of the points made and have been playing for a long time. However now it seems like everytime one of these dies a new one pops up and its annoying. We get it, you don't have fun anymore on the game. Quit trying to spoil the fun for people who do. I agree with you Venus. People here really need an attitude change.
I've came into this game like a patch before the genies came out, and I don't really find it awesome to go around saying "QQ, i'm so mad that now I can buy heads instead of grinding my way to 100 oh woe is me". Like come on, if you REALLY wanna go back to the old PWI, why don't you get a group of friends and play the old way? But no, you gotta go on the forums and cry about it, even though there's simple solutions to your problems. PWI may have changed from that time, but the last I recall, they didn't go around taking out all the quests or anything. They may not be focused on the questing way of leveling anymore, but that doesn't mean you can't focus on it.
Just my opinion. o_O[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Why did this post turn so negatively? I'm sure if the OP didn't like things as they were, he'd quit already. The first few posts (first 2 pages) were mostly "oh yea i remember" and "lol @ this or that" and then the sudden jump? It's like telling the elderly to **** every time they tell a story. If a new player is so easily scared off, then s/he hasn't done any research or probably hasn't played another mmo. For the most part, if I start a new game like when I started Jade Dynasty a long time ago, I expected the "well back in my day" talks. Sure I wish I were playing back then, but did it scare me away? Hell no. "Scaring away new players" is sort of lame just overall in my opinion =/ Hell his post is actually non-QQ and yet people jump on his case. It was just a time line of sorts for new players that were INTERESTED in the time line. Otherwise, most would probably overlook this. This community has to turn everything that could POSSIBLY have the intention of being POSITIVE into a NEGATIVE ending. It's quite sad. Don't like the post just don't contribute to it and create these endlessly pointless down-spirals.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Since a charitable person can waste time to force their own point here, others can too.
This thread was made to show how pwi has changed. Which apparently made you feel unjustified, even though its correct.
Your first post in this thread not being how pwi changed for you (which you could have put in a good way if it did that for you), but was to complaint about how others should not post their experiences of years of playing pwi.
If you feel the truth will scare newbes away, then post your good experiences here.VenusArmani - Dreamweaver wrote: »It's not like all of the changes have been bad. This post comes the closest in being with the thread's bearings, even though its not how pwi changed for you, but just a justification of other player's experiences.
Others stop your idiotic 'leave game if u hate it' rhetoric. Post your own history of pwi. You consumed time and energy here and its worth a read about how you feel. Don't mind if its not all gumdrops or lollipops.0 -

Lust this why I don't like posting you always have people who just want to start a fight for attention. I just made a post saying how much the game changed from how it used to be and now. I never said the game got better or worst, But people make it as if I said the old way is better. There are some things I like about the Old ways as far as pvp ect.. There are some things I like about the new days as far as lvling(I was not a big fan of the old school grinding). So don't take my post as a insult toward the game take it as a history lesson. I always liked PW.
Only thing I didn't like back then was that it was such a grindfest.
Now theres 4 new classes (when I got back) and a whooole lot of content added.
Sure gold went from 250-300k to, damn, over 1.3m? But as I can see now, making cash is a lot easier.
Its nice to look at the good old days, you know I do, but its also best to move on.
Keep moving forward. Or stop. Its your decision guys but PW is still a very nice MMO for old and new players alike.
Have fun b:pleased0 -

This is true. One of the BIGGEST complains I've seen is how high gold prices are. But really, they are just changing to fit how much coins we have. Back when it was 100k, it was nice, but it was the equivalent of 1.3mil it is now, because coins where a lot harder to grind then. The gold steadly grew as new items were added and there were easier ways of making money. It's just simple economics really... and even I failed that class, so it obviously doesn't take a professor to figure that one out. I mean, it would be nice if gold were still 100k, but all you would have to do is farm 1 TT instance and sell your drops for like 10 gold.
And yes, I do not like grindfests. >__> Now that the majority of the playerbase is made of old time players who know the game, it isn't a surprise we are selling heads in FC to level our alts. It might not be fun for the newer generation who wants to do BH and the like, but once you've done the quests more than 4 times, it gets really boring really fast. Atleast at 90+ you can basically do everything there is in the game, and are hardly limited to anything else until lower levels.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

I apologize if you took it mostly as attack on you, my point wasn't that it is invalid to have one experience of the game or another. My point was that the general negativity towards the new style of playing (and your post highlighted all of the more controversial changes and kept inserting lines like "so and so was OP" and "people are afraid to enter PVP" and "people started leaving the game," the "classes have become overpowered if you have the money," etc, etc. I can see now that it wasn't intentional but this kind of terminology gives your overall post a negative connotation. If it was a good change, why phrase as such? If it was a neutral change, why not just say what happened? If you hit the search button you will find that this thread comes up quite a lot. I think it's come up like 3 times in the past week and a half. No sooner does on thread die that another pops up to the point that it's an almost permanent fixture. People who think that you are forced to pay money to play this game, may not play it anymore.
My point wasn't to say your opinions are invalid, or that you shouldn't reminisce etc. My point was just that this kind of negative outlook in the community has scared new players away and overall left to a more bitter and less helpful atmosphere. Go dig up posts from 2 years ago, and the ones now. The community as a whole turned more negative, and it's partly due to threads like this. Not that i'm singling yours out in particular, it's just more like i've seen this thread so many times that I finally just decided to say something about it. Not just this thread, but also people who have quit and feel the need to spam every thread with negativity. People who have banners proclaiming that the game has died. But first off "negative connotation" is in the eye of the beholder which means it's all relative to the reader and their emotional stances, with that being said that Lil opinion is nulled.
Second the forums are more negative because they are unhappy, simple as that and as a business wouldn't it be a good idea to please the customer first?? Since overall business is about servicing others?? /rhetorical question
Third, troll is right, back when the game was a "grind fest" the game was number 1 in f2p and number 3 in mmorpg games overall behind WoW and diablo ii (it was fresh out I believe) and that chica is not by happenstance.
So overall happy customers-loyal customers- tell friends to play-better business long term so instead of ignoring this constant cry for things the old way, why wouldn't they make sayy 2 new servers: one pve and one pvp which put the game back to before heavy cs days but with some of the great improvements they made (nirvana, new classes, r9, PV) but minus things like BH, hyper, packs, oracles etc and instead put those things in the DQ system so people would actually have to work to level quickly.
They could beta test this system and see which one made them more money and had more players and if they didn't like the outcome they could just cut the plan.
I guarantee that those 2 servers would grow and bring exponentially more income than the other servers probably combined. Again, Ijs[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -
I hate that some people are making this post negative, it had such a good start to it.
I do miss zhen parties. Was probably the most fun I had with my faction when we decided to do it. I either played wiz and did dragon's breath or I played an extra DD and gatherer of mobs to run them back to whoever was doing DB.
I do feel sorry for the suckers who didn't buy gold when it was 100k. It still kills me when i tell newbies gold prices were 100k and there weren't BHs and they are like "WHAH?!!"
Makes me smile.
I personally did like to grind out lvl's when I ran out of quests. Gave me extra coin and exp. It also let me level up pets before you could just pop in the cube and do it with the tombstones.
Another big faction thing I used to do with my friends was the TT runs for gear. Not many people just bought the TT mats from auction house. I actually still want TT99 for my cleric instead of rank gear. I was always the veno that pulled and had to run backwards for the barb to catch before there were genies and the barb could do it himself.
Actually when genies came out I waited like a couple of weeks before I actually got mine, then never used it till months later because it was so low in level and I refused to feed it my own exp.
Probably the most fun I had was actually rare pet taming. I used to do it with one of my friends and we used to partner up. All the venos would sit around and chit chat at the first spawn spot that day, and everyone was basically pretty friendly. Then the pet would spawn and it was like total chaos as 5 or so venos would run after the mob (cause everyone's tames back then always failed first time) and you are sitting there thinking "OMG tame has too long of a cooldown!" and keep frantically hitting the tame button. And when someone finally got it, you would see "Oh! Grats on the catch!" or something along those lines from all the venos there. Everyone always made sure not to kill the rare pet and if they did it was an accident and whoever did it would apologize. Then some venos would race to the nearest town to teleport to the next spawn spot.
I don't play my veno much anymore, mostly on my cleric lately. No one does much TT or squading for stuff anymore so the veno is really only useful for soloing TT during 2x or soloing bosses for friends if they even do them anymore. I also don't do rare pet taming anymore. It's now a bit more vicious then it used to be.
I honestly liked reading what other older members of the game posted. It's nice to read and it was fun. Anyone that remembers the faction Bounty on the Dreamweaver server, much love to you.[SIGPIC]http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa85/kitsunekatie/guild stuff/allcharsig1-1.jpg [/SIGPIC]

Back in the day...
-Only CS/WQ for dalies
-After leveling > finish quests > grind
-Grinded around 6-8 hours per day
-Farmed herbs and mats in my own area of grinding
-Progressed around the map for every few levels, to find a new grinding spot
-Fishing/Zhening w/ squads for quick exp
-Made 100/100 friends just from people I met in my tight-nit small faction and by grinding budies
-Friendship Crystals we're the shizz
-Gear didn't matter to most. It was all about the level.
-Gold was 95k on HT. Gold HP Charms we're ~400k per.
-First "pack" was a golden egg pack or somethin', that offered the possible goldmane lion mount. After that, it was anni packs.
-Anni pack 150+ page thread on forums. Later, it was ignored.
-Having a shiny wep was so awesome.
-TT farming nonstop, everyday for TT90 gear and coin.
-Tanking TTs. Dear god, those we're the friggin' days. Barb's couldn't afk! It was pure tankin' dem TTs.
-First FF was old FF squad mode. Man, that was rough stuff.
-FF was changed to pure exp instance. Being the first to enter it felt great.
-BH 3-3 boss was changed to make 'em all super hard. The instant servers came up after maint, my perma BH squad did it. It was a memory I'll never forget.
-People knew eachother on world chat. Decent spammers, and great people.
-EG/TB didn't exist, along w/ all the other ****.
Ah, good memories. Wouldn't trade 'em for the world.0 -
I remember the rush you got when you looked at a tw map which was blank... Full of potential and full of dreams of how it would turn out and who would do well.
Or
When the first people who would complete the tw were in fact a group of people between their 40s-50 and maybe 2-5 60s if u were lucky
I remember dreading the 60s because I hated the swamps and who people would grind/zhen at alarming rates just to get out of there.
I remember making a cleric just so I could fly around the map at a low level and just stopping to see the major cities, landscapes and more.
I remember having a full friends list so I always had someone to do quests or grind with and competing for levels and gear.
I remember when a mold dropped in fbs people would actually try to steal them because they were so rare and valuable.
I remember people having to do cube for mysterious chips and if u could complete it once a day, you were gonna be high level and rich in no time
I remember the shock and awe look on my face when I saw anyone with tt gold, no matter what level because all u could say was "damn their pro"
I remember when someone hit r6 they would get a server wide congrats and everyone wanted them in their guild.
I remember when if u had something with minus channeling, it would sell for 500k plus when gold was only 100k... Enough said.
I remember the first tt 60 weapon, I felt pro as heck.
I remember when a flawless in your weapon made people stay away from you...

Etc, etc. If you want a more positive gaming experience, we all have to be more positive. That means maybe if you're going to do a timeline, leave out the negative personal opinions or least present a balanced one with positive timelines too. If we want a more active and friendly community, it starts with ourselves.
That my friend is a foolish thing to say. I said this is a history lesson. Do you read your school history books and tell them to leave out the bad part? No you don't no matter if you want it gone or not it's still going to be there. This game had it's up and downs for me, there are things I love about the game and will always be in my memory, and there are things that make me want to uninstall the game. I put that stuff there to show people who are interested about the game's history bad or good. Like I said don't take it as a insult, take it as a history lesson. Just because you don't care about the old days don't mean other newer players who came after the anni packs don't care.0 -
- I remember when Panther was 10 gold and most hardcore mount around.
- I remeber how I ran Rebirth Alpha with a self crafted blade.
- I remember how I was spending hours looking for tabbers, so we could level.
- I remember the times where being level 60 was insane.
- I remember my first time flying on my BM, level 30 after completing the quest.
- I remember having 2 average shards in armor (for glow) was OP.
- I remember how Chain pants or Hemsley set was no1 male outfit.
- I remember seeing Cenminator the first time.
Probably have more somewhere in my brain.Feel free to PM me for help.

Are you seriously comparing the fact that some people stopped playing a video game to the horrors of history? As if saying, "you don't have to tell every little negative thing about a video game to someone every day for months on end," is comparable to "let's just pretend that whole holocaust thin never happened.?" It's a freaking source of entertainment, this thread has been made countless times and your history isn't even a complete one. If you want to make a serious history thread, include all the history and leave the negative personal opinions to the side. IF you just want to complain about the old days, don't act as if you're "educating" someone because you're giving your personal opinion and aren't really giving new players a true view of the changes that came about.Saintblu - Sanctuary wrote: »
The barbs really shined because they found out about their OP skill Armageddon
But hey, to illustrate my point let me show you what I mean. A lot of people feel the game was balanced when the game first started, that it was a nice rock, paper, scissors feel to the classes. So saying so and so was OP is a matter of personal opinion, as it stands there wasn't any of the true problems that caused the developers to say "we'll work on a way to make it less effective," as it is now.
Questing was still crappy
A lot of people enjoyed questing and would love an school server. You're not educating anyone here, just personal opinion.
These pack really changed pvp thus giving birth to the cashshoppers.
Do you really think cash shoppers weren't around back in the day? Of course they were. They just bought the materials/gear from other players instead of from the packs. The packs didn't change the fact that cash shoppers had an advantage over everyone else. They always have and someone dug up a thread from open beta that worried about the future of the game if the cash shop was the way it is now. Just because you don't like packs doesn't mean that your personal opinion on them is the history of the game.
This single move had people afraid to enter pvp mode
There were always players afraid to enter pvp, you say that like it's a new thing. A lot of the people who don't pvp now because of sins, have actually re rolled their own sins. Sins also aren't as great in TW as some of the older classes. The people who do TW often still have their wizards and archers and such.
6th OP gear part 1: Pwi released Nirvana armor and gear. This made the cashshoper unstoppable in pvp. This is when the complaints started happening about cashshoper and alot of people started leaving the game.
People have been complaining about cash shoppers since the beginning of the game. There was mass exodus of the players at several different major changes in the game. This is not when people started leaving, at every major change to gameplay in any game you have a lot of people who leave the game.
All of the classes has became Over powered if you have the money to make them that way.
All the classes are overpowered? says who?
So yeah, ask yourself this. If you're really just trying to educate people on the way the game has changed, why use this terminology. Why only focus on the negative changes? What about the fact that glitches such as rubber banding has been fixed? What about the DQ points system? What about how PWI through power leveling has given people the ability to play the content they want to play. Be it players who just want to skip to end game and go straight to pvp or players who want to level the old way and don't even do BH. Power leveling has more than one facet to it. A post like this isn't really educating people on all of the changes that PWI has been through, it's just a negative bulletin board on some of the changes. You're claim you're just trying to educate them, but educate them on what exactly?[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
