I think you have oversimplified things...

Damage reduction is defense / (defense + 40 * attacker's level) so you very definitely get diminishing returns on damage reduction when you have higher defense.

But survivability is health / (1 - damage reduction), or: health * (1 + defense / (40 * attacker's level)). In other words the higher your health, the greater your benefit from increased defenses and the higher your defenses the greater your benefit from higher health.

Of course you do get a proportional benefit sort of diminishing returns -- if you have a lot of defenses adding a little defense is a small percentage change in your total survivability. But the same principle holds for health.

The big issue, I think, for most archers, is that you effectively get 40 * attacker level in "free defenses", so you have to build up your health before you get into a region where increasing your defenses makes sense.

Anyways, I think many archers are not healthy enough to be worrying about their defenses.

And I am ignoring defense levels... Defense levels work great in PvE. But in PvP you need a lot of them before they start being better than comparable hp gems against typical opponents (unless you are a seeker or maybe a psychic -- a fully jaded and numbed seeker would be an impossible opponent for us archers, if we do not have enough attack levels), and rank 9 opponents are even worse for archers wearing jade.

As for the archers forum, I can say I read a lot, but not posted back, because the work of the above mentioned people and more, has proven to be so very useful, complex and complete that its no longer required for me to go ask: "what weapon do I need at X lvl?" or "is sage or demon better?" or "where do I grind and how to make aps build?".

This forum, ecatomb, pwdatabase, pw-wiki... that pretty much covers 99% of everything you ever wanted to know about archers. So yeah... posting becomes a method of stating "I'm just saying that this is my opinion and I want to be acknowledged into existence on the forum".

I actually whispered Asterelle in-game once with my veno and thanked him for all the work he put in this forum. He kind of freaked out, lol: "who are ya, what do want from me?! Buzz off!"... ofc he didn't use these words, I read between the lines:P.

SOME people (demon_ea and yulk excluded) actually are grateful that you offer knowledge to make choosing a future path for the character practically a breeze. I am one of them and I know at least 3-4 more.

Archer forums are only dead because the forums in general are dead. There is nothing new to post about and everything in the past year has basically been a loop of the same topics. Honestly the only reason the forums still get posts is because people don't know how to use the search function and old posts are considered out of bounds no matter how relevant the content is.
