Are we talking in PvP or PvE?

Also I wonder who's paying for all your crab Rawrgh when you 'solo' TT as a claw barb ;)
It pays for itself since the typical run gives ~1.5mil profit.

A run that gives a gold mat gives ~6mil profit.

Yeah, egotistical cash shoppers are quite annoying but they don't really get any respect and everyone ganks them to shut them up on PVP servers. Since no one likes them, they TRY to make themselves someone to fear and continue being jerks, seeing there is no point in trying to please everyone.

I just don't see why anyone would complain about CSers. Common sense would tell everyone that without them the game would not exist. If players don't like it than they should move on. Do they really think that PWE is going to tell players to "please don't spend so much money".

Have you seen the costs of running a server?

Have you seen how much profit PW earns?

The amount they earn in 1 year i enough to cover years of operations.
Cash shoppers are not really paying for the game, just increasing the company's coffers. If we want to thank people,it's the people who cash shopped when the game started.

Just because someone bought stuff from the boutique doesn't mean that person used RL money, IJS. Could be just gold from coins.

I'm technically a "cash shop king" too..

That's true. Maybe we should define the phrase "Cash Shopper".

Spending RL money makes one a cash shopper? Or are all the ppl buying the items in the boutique cash shoppers?

Imo the boutique isnt properly balanced out for the game. And i dont like cs'ers that brag about their RL wallets either. I cash shop. I just dont like to be laughed at by ppl that buy their stuff at the same spot as i do.. no matter if its RL money or in game coin.

Hmm, technically I would call 'true' cash shoppers those who directly spend on the game, as in using their credit card/pre-paid card and other forms of payment to charge zen or boutique items.
The ones that use coins only to buy boutique items or gold could be considered as indirect cash shoppers. They are a tad lower in the chain.

And so, those who are spending their money on the game are really those who make the game still free, even if some/most play on offer and demand to gain coins in an easier way.

I would also add that PWE was really smart in that gamers could buy boutique items from others with coins... This contributes to the 'item recycling'... as in one being able to get rid of his old wares, while the others have a chance to get stuff that they could not buy (not allowed by family to spend money on credit card, lack of funds, being a cheapskate, whatever other reasons). And then the transaction brings coins for later usage.
And so, another reason for people to sell items they bought from boutique.
(In other MMOs, boutique items are often limited in time and it's rather frustrating to see them expire, even if they are supposed to give great temporary stats. For me, nothing's better than a permanent aerogear or fashion)

That said, with the insane gold rate right now, recycling rate is much lower/saturated.

I've gotten that one too.... without spending any cash on this game.

Just today I bought 42 chienkun stones from the cash shop with gold I got from the AH, thats 42 towards it. I bought 200k worth of reputation by buying sets of 50 rep badges from the cash shop using gold I bought in the AH a couple weeks ago.

Thanks for clearing that up Lesthar.

Imo there are two species here. Gamers and players. Gamers are the "pro" ppl that sincerely play the game. Players are the ppl that will do anything to speed up their lvling, not really being aware of what the game is about.

Im convinced you can be a Gamer, even tho you cash shop. I think its not a matter of the amount of money spent on the game that makes you "It", its the mentality with which you play. So, cash shopped gear and loads of RL money does not automatically equal a good gamer. On the other hand.. it doesnt automatically make you a horrible player either.

Bragging and arrogant behaviour related to the size of a RL wallet might make one not fun to hang around with, but still, they can be a good gamers.. Annoying but true.

I think im trying to say its not all as black and white as some state it to be.

I dont think people are complaining about cs-ers spending money, more like complaining how PWE is so cash-shoppers-oriented. New gears are made to cater for only the cs-ers...

Well, also, some people just feel like complaining. I do my share of that, myself, when I am feeling unhappy.

Meanwhile, if you examine any of these distinctions closely enough, they start getting fuzzy (like, for example: if someone gives you zen -- not gold, zen, but not money and not anything that came out of your own pocket -- game card numbers, to be specific -- would you be a cash shopper? Yes! No! MAYBE!!!)

And [we are not allowed to discuss certain other games here] but mostly either other mmorpgs do not let you even play if you do not "cash shop" or they seal off big parts of the game if you do not "cash shop" and so on. Here, in contrast, you can access any part of the game, including the cash shop, without paying any cash -- and that includes both fuzzy stuff (like gift zen) and industrious stuff (like in-game farming and merchanting).

This game certainly has room for improvement, of course. But I doubt this thread is being helpful, for us recognizing how to be getting improvements.

i agree with Fleuri there are many games you cant play unless you cash shop and also many that restrict you to using Boutique items only on your characters and not to sell in game. I think the problem is there are a few CS's out there who do have a "arrogant" streak but they are few and far between....alot CS to help there toon to get better armour and then be a better character for there Factions, some like to see what's round the next corner when it comes to armour, weapons and quests and some CS to buy gifts for others. I spent alot on my Barb getting him stronger by CS'ing for the faction he was with ,and because i had limited time to play but wanted to be helpful...plus at Christmas and Birthdays its nice to give a gift even if its a pixilated one.......especially when alot of your in game friends are in different country's. Im in the UK so with the weak dollar its cheaper for me...but i understand how hard it can be for US players to find the RL cash to CS.

You're welcome and yes, I agree with what you said.

I believe that leveling slow and with care can show a certain commitment to the game... working on the character and learning how subtle the classes in the game have been designed. That said, it can be rather boring and unsatisfying if you wish to cap. (This his how I roll, btw... And I don't regret it one bit)

Leveling fast and by all means possible, on the other hand, can help get rid of the difficulty that the original architecture of the game intended (would you say 'ruin the original PvE goal', I would ...for example, the lack of normal quests, their poor rewards in experience and the uselessness of grinding at lv 8x and more), but also could show a wish to cap fast or to emulate the highest levels and whatever builds and equips they have, to PvP (a final objective for countless ones), go into high level instances and TW, stupidly brag about this and that for some, and so on.

And so, to fulfil the second type of objectives, you got to spend a lot of currency on the game, be it your own money or coins. and of course, PWE would prefer the former, even if once again, using coins is not bad either, since it flows between gamers, and eventually disappears via NPCs.

And that is why the competitive side is encouraged, that instances with high difficulty are more and more open, that refining aids and other charm sales are regularly present, and do not forget packs.
Yes, packs, gambling, the wish to get high-end items, the dream to be all powerful. People only think of rewards, not risks, like what gambling naturally implies.
    You can guess the rest.

    Etc., etc.
