Any GM response to the rep/rank gear sale?

Y'know, over the course of time that I've played this game, I've often stood up for it and it's management in the face of constant whining about every last detail. I argued with people who exaggerated the effects of a certain change on the game as a whole, I argued against people who called decisions "irresponsible" or "rude" or whatever and I ignored all the pessimistic "the game is dead" posts.

But this? I can't back this up. I'm confused, baffled and surprised. All I can do now is post a thread voicing my thoughts on this rep/rank sale, and I'm sure my complaint thread is just one in a flood of complaint threads to come.



Having said that, I'd seriously like to point out the immense flaw in this sale and how it'll affect the game.

After the update, the price of 50 wraith officer's badges was reduced to 45 silver. This LITERALLY makes rank 9 reputation cost 108 gold alone. There's more to rank 9, but that's not even the problem. Rank 8 alone is quite powerful, and that, if I recall correctly, is a mere 72 gold. So everyone and their mother is charging zhen to go AT LEAST rank 8, seeing as it's the cheapest price ever offered and since Rank 8 is such a large step up in power from everything below it.
What does this mean? Everyone who cash shops will be hardc0re. Everyone who doesn't? They get left behind. Heck, the sale is temporary, isn't it? People who are on hiatus during this sale or on vacation will also be left behind. Anyone who has ever PVPed against a r8 player knows what I'm talking about: yes it can be done, but it's a VERY uncomfortable uphill battle. If you're a person in TT90 gear up against multiple rank 8's, you're screwed.


"But Longknife, you can still farm r8 in game. You don't have to cash shop!"

No, no you can't. R8 requires rep, which we're getting through wraith badges, which are CONSUMABLES. No one in their right mind will buy and resell these; everyone will consume them. This means the prices for these badges will stay the same for non-CSers, while CSers get an OUTRAGEOUS discount. Theoretically, once every Cash shopper and his mother has 300k rep, then yeah, people would start to sell wraith badges and their value would drop. Problem is, again, this sale is temporary. After it's done, wraith badges will be just as common as they were before: farming remains just as difficult.



With such a ridiculous difference in the quality of Cash shop players and anyone who did NOT cash shop this month for whatever reason, a LOT of people will quit. All non-CSers, frustrated CSers who were on vacation this month, frustrated CSers who paid the hard way for r8....A LOT of people are gonna walk out. Maybe it doesn't seem important to the company if non-CSers quit, but it should be. They're just as important to the economy of the game as CSers are.


So like I said, I'm sitting here confused, baffled and surprised. This decision is LITERALLY game-suicide, as if to say "Yeah you were right" to all the people who have long said "game is dying, they're just milking the last drops out of it." Which again baffles me, cause wtf there's a big new update around the corner. Why update a game that's commiting Hata kiri?



So I just wanna know, is this update for real? Are these prices intended? Is it all really just as simple as I've stated above?

I'm afraid that if this truly is their intention, then I'll be quitting the game. Sure I'll hang around til the new update in hopes that there will be some MAGICAL new-factor that makes r8/r9 useless, but things sure look bleak right now. No idea what you guys are doing...

I for one don't care about this game anymore. I know a lot of people who will cash shop rank9. Sure the sale is only for one month and you could use your coins for buying gold. The problem is that gold is 2m each. The money I had all of the sudden became less than half in value, and there is no ****** way I am going to pay 2m coins for one gold. Sure, maybe after all this Xmas sale are over maybe gold will be back to 800k hopefully. However by then the damage will be done already. The cash shoppers will have rank9 gear and non-cashopers will have **** armor, even if its nirvana, which by the way it's now worthless to farm for all the time you must invest there.

Even if you make another instance to farm that may give non cashopers a change, you will probably put that gear in a pack or a sale 1 month later because your thirst for money is unquenchable. I know how it will go. It's better to leave now.

you realise how long it took to grind 800k per gold!?
it took me 8 hours
i was working for 10 cents a hour that day playing the game and it wasnt fun it was boring repetative work for 10 ****** cents an hour
at 2mil per gold it will be like working for 3-4 cents an hour *** that get a bot or quit
botting is the only way

I agree with pretty much everything else in your post, but PWI has a proven track record of repeating successful sales again and again.

The current rush to buy cheap Rank 8 is driving Gold up because people can't believe the sale prices are for real and are worried they need to get Rank 8 now or get left behind, but either these sales were deliberate and are going to return again, or else they were a massive blunder and thus any semblance of game balance has been irrecoverably destroyed.

Either way, I'm left feeling completely apathetic. Rank 8 used to be my long-term personal goal, now I really couldn't care less if I get it or not.

I fail to see ANY, ANY logical explanation to this about why this is a good idea. Even if we assume they're absolutely sure the game will die and they're milking it for it's last drops, it doesn't make sense to do this now with the new version around the corner...

People worked MONTHS and MONTHS for DQ horses. Now you can buy them in cash shop
People worked MONTHS and MONTHS in lunar. Now you can get a ring for 1 gold
People worked months and month for rep. Now u can get that for 45 silver

its from your view, from company view? if putting those items to Boutique gives result in many ppl are buying them, more money to them to expand the game more.

You technically can. It's called trophy mode. Most people here wouldn't have the faintest idea on how to run one though.

maybe i am being maniacal, but frankly its not a big deal to me at all. i am way to use to F2P games doing this. PWI is just falling into the hole most major f2p games have fallen into.


what is that trend u ask? CS to be elite or dont CS and be a peasant. it was only a matter of time before that trend cought up to PWI. it took awhile and im surprised it didnt end up like this a year ago, but it is what it is.

so what to do about it? nothing. doesnt matter where u go because ALL f2p games will eventually follow this trend sooner or later. in PWIs case it was later rather then sooner. so my suggestion? get with the trend or go play console games/p2p MMO games. everything has a price.

oh ya and btw, its only a matter of time before they have some super sale to where warsouls are like 100 gold to get. just warning u guys now.

but, did I wrote all the money it was only for the fixes? i wrote its for expand the game more, or keep the server engine running.

^ i agree. but i wonder how many people will spend the money to get rank gear only to find that there is no one to use it against. i know i will never ever spend another penny on this game. to unpredictable on what they will do next. fashion not even worth it now. glad i didnt buy that holiday set yesterday b:laugh

Around November 16-17th PWI's Stock plummeted by about 30% of its value from the day before. A week later the Massive Sale of everything that is EVER popular in the game disguised as Black Friday. The response...? Stock when up 1% during the sale...and then dropped again by 5% or so. And then...this sale came out.

If you were an investor, would you support a company that just lost over 30% of its value in a day? Did something horribly go wrong before november 16th?

Answer to these questions...we will never know. But surely what is being done is trying to milk as much money as possible before...
