    Umm what level is your archer? And what stats have you been increasing?

    Knockback Arrow is a skill that pushes the target 12m away from u. Keep it at level 1 if you can learn it. HOwever you can learn this skill only at lvl19.

    Before that, you can use winged shell to reduce the damage you take from melee opponents.

    In the end if you HATE to hit and run when required, I believe you'd have to deal with losing a lot of HP or dying.

    Range weapons deal half damage at melee range (closer than 5m). You learn knock back arrow at level 19, and frost arrow at level 9. Stay at maximum range, open with frost arrow, and use knockback after 2 more shots. Reactivate the blazing arrow buff between mobs if it runs out.

    The most important thing though is to read this guide:

    http://pwi-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=185611

    Its very useful, and I'd say most archers who havn't read it (even at 70+) can learn a bunch of useful info from it. Its very much worth the time to go through it once or twice.

    I don't know why people say archers need to kite in PvE. Max your bow mastery, winged blessing, blazing arrow, and frost arrow. Start from max range and use Frost Arrow >> Normal >> Normal >> Knockback (when you reach lvl 19) Normals to finish. If you are pure dex then the mobs almost always die before they reach you. The ones that do reach you can be finished off with just 1 more attack. Archer is one of the simplest classes to PvE with and requires very little potions. Also level 1 arrows (the ones you should be using in PvE) are dirt cheap. Its way less than what other classes spend on potions.

    Archers kite?! In PWI??? ROFL! I have NEVER kited in this game. At lower lvls, it's a good idea to farm some herbs and create life powders, they really help to stay alive. More experienced players should do fine with potions only. At lvl19, you get knockback, and eventually you will be strong enough to kill mobs before they could reach you (if you have the right build and skills). Just don't be afraid to drink potions at lower lvls, you won't need many after mid lvls anyways. Archer isn't hard to keep alive, my BM died more times during her 20 lvls than my Archer during her 90... b:surrender I fail at melee fight.

    @Cyanea
    Well I doubt many people do dragon quests to know of the elite mobs. I know I did (25 days of it) to get all the silver orders needs for my bracers of blood moon and boat loads of coin :P

    And for that matter people barely grind/quest these days. They just BH,FC,RB,oracle,etc under the protection of a squad which would explain the reasoning behind not kiting.

    @Others on kiting
    Well you gotta be out of your mind as an archer to not kite when you aggro 4~5 equal levelled melee physical mobs. Your 15 sec cooldown on knockback arrow isnt gonna help either. And instead of spamming wingspan, pledge, etc...kite a bit, lose 4 mobs and then finish the 1 mob u were attacking. Thats much easier than using hp food, pots, etc.

    And please tell me you guys never kited a harpy kabal when you attacked more than 1 by mistake.

    when multiple mobs approach, you can fly up and stun one while they reset. if you ever try to grind spiders they take forever to reset if you just run.

    Isnt that also Kiting? b:laugh

    The point I was trying to get through was kiting is an essential skill for archers at any level and you would need to know how and when to do it. Best if people learn it at early levels.

    And how many dragon quest bosses have you solo'd on your archer? Do you ever miss in the Cube? How about when you have aggro in an FB/BH instance? And, low level (like level 9 cultivation) you can avoid kiting if you use a lot of pots, if you meditate or if you do that one in a squad or wait a few levels to do it, but that does make the idea silly since all of the alternatives have disadvantages.

    I don't do DQ and I do other bosses with my faction / friends. I don't go to Cube (no time for it, I'm happy if I can do my dailies x.x). I never steal aggro in dungeons because I remove my rings and/or use lower lvl bow (and I never attack before tank). I used life powders and pots at low lvls, they worked for me. b:surrender So yeah, I never kite... I should try it one day. ^^

    It is the process to moving away from your target (which is getting close enough to hit) and then continue attacking it. This way you wouldnt get hit much.

    Archers need it because of the 50% damage penalty they suffer when the target is within 5m or basically at melee range. Hence if something gets that close, we wouldnt be able to deal a lot of damage and hence take more hits. Kiting would let us keep that distance so that we can kill it easier without taking hits.

    I never had to kite a single mob. Even before lvl 20 most of the mobs were dying before they reached me or only getting 1 attack. Opening with Take Aim knocks off about half of their HP at low lvls and frost arrow is learned at level 9.
    Of course I ran or flew away if I lured too many. I still do that.

    You can get aggro in instances even if you have lousy damage and never crit.

    For example, Polearm might kill your tank in wraithgate. Also, some of the bosses in FB89 and FB99 have random aggro. Some of them have random aggro in the high level TTs, also.

    Maybe that will be something for you to look forward to?

    Sure, it can happen. But when the tank is dying, I just stop killing, so the boss runs after someone else, lol. b:laugh I also run away to save myself, but that's different from kiting. Sometimes I die in dungeons, but that can happen to anyone if things go wrong. ^^ And thanks for reminding me, maybe I should TT more... been there only once, months ago. :c It was so boring.

    use take aim or frost arrow as your opening attack at low lv. Mobs usually can only hit you once if they are not health increase mobs. I will avoid those mobs because archer meant to kill enemy quick. Use knockback, deadly shot, and stun as your lv go higher. Sharpen Tooth arrow will work better at higher lv and replace deadly shot. Use deadly shot or sharpen tooth as the opening attack, then use stun. If more than one mobs is coming after you, you can try use wing shell to take damage from one mob while killing other mob, or run away. I also use claw when knockback arrow is recharging and I don't want to run away and end up a lot of mob follow me.

    some are from my experience and other are taught by my faction people, so if anything that is wrong please correct it, and it will also help me in future PvE.
