Kinda annoying, its like you sit behind a monitor so you can say w/e you want while feeling anonymous, then you hide behind a fake avatar to further hide from ruining some kind of e-rep.. Feels like everyone is doing it now, is there any other reason besides above that I don't know about..? Just bored/semi curious I guess b:question

Especially the ones who back up their flaming by talking like they know everything about the game, or claiming to have "a level 103 barb" or w/e.

If you're a faceless alt you're a nobody until you prove otherwise and that's that.

This isn't an alt, but I haven't selected an avatar. Initially I did it simply because I was too lazy to bother figuring out how and didn't really care. Now I do it because people love to use "stop hiding behind an alt" and "go level, lowbie" as misdirects after they've lost the argument and have nothing left to contribute.

If I'm right, I'm right. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong. It doesn't matter who I am or what level and class my character is. If you disagree with me, try to use rational, logical reasoning to discuss it with me. I'm not going to play the game of trying to validate my posts with e-peen and e-rep just because some people are too immature to have an intelligent discussion without resorting to name calling.

"Stop hiding behind an alt" is pretty much the PWI forum equivalent of calling someone "poopiepants." It lacks creativity and really has nothing to do with anything.

This sums it up. Hiding behind an alt avatar is pathetic. If you're flaming and want to protect the "reputation" of your main, it's best to not flame. If you have information to offer, offer it on your most creditable toon(i.e. your main.) I've seen too many people pull out their flamethrower on level 1 alts or faceless avatars; after a while it gets quite annoying like Adroit said.

Its because people lack the balls to even post on their main character and like u say hide behind a mask which is in turn behind another mask. People can big themselves up and people have nothing to base against them so they feel supierior behind there infinite supply of masks, also if they post nothing but BS all day long like most do its stops them getting any in game pm's.

So basically faceless avatars or using alts are what the spineless idiots do, so they have to face no repercussions.

I've seen plenty of examples where an argument ends with the person behind an alt being proven wrong.... Then they go on and on refusing to admit that they were ever wrong....

The only problem i have with the people who use alts to post is that they will generally continue to argue over nothing even after they have been proven wrong.

Then we never see half of them again because they either go to their main or make another alt =(

An interesting side note about this is that although I haven't gone out of my way to post the name of my character, I haven't really gone out of my way to hide my identity either. At various times, when it has come up and been relevant to a thread, I've made reference to my class, level, faction, etc. The main reason you don't know who I am, is that you don't care ... which pretty much proves my point.

Why don't you care? Because it doesn't matter!

I also find it rather comical that people are acting like posting under their made up game names is any different than posting under a made up account name. Does your driver's license say "Adroit?" Does the picture look like a cartoon cleric with pointy ears? Yeah, I didn't think so. So I guess after all is said and done, none of us is really posting under our real identity, are we?

The OP isn't talking about people who use logic and reasoning. Talking more about the people who love to troll, flame and just all out make themselves look like jerks behind an alt. No need to mask who you are just so people will see you different in game than in the forums.

I'm labeled a Pve carebear on the forums, but that doesn't change who I am in the game or on the forums. I am the same both places. So if someone wants to be an 18 year old jerk on the forums and totally contradict him/herself by who they are in game, be my guest. Eventually your true identity (self being)shines through.

I guess one of the reasons I don't like it is when people offer advice.. I've seen it so many times while I've been looking through the wizard forums, some lowbie posts on their main with a serious question, gets replies from several people.. and it is very difficult to determine which ones are valid. For instance, if you see a 5x mage talking about triple spark and how amazing it is, you can tell it is just theory.. whereas you see a level 100 mage talking about how amazing triple spark is, you can at least say they have some experience with it.. but when they are posting on some alt, the lowbie really has no way of knowing who is more credible and may get the wrong idea.

It may be a silly example i admit but the point is the same, would you take advice from someone you couldn't see and thus take note of any experince they have?

That's the best reason's so far. When people post they want to see what experience the player has so wants to know there general level, anyone could tell them aload of BS and they wouldn't know any different. However, the higher the level the person is the better there general advice would be in there class (excluding oracle idiots and mentally challenged gamers) so they can take note and learn from the player.

Well the reason why I think some people hide behind an alt, isn't really because they KNOW it will hurt the feelings of someone, but reather they fear that it will, and they argo do what has been described by you, hide behind a computer and a alt, and they feel free to 'bash' others. Yes it is distasteful, but I do believe it happens on every game, so I doubt perfect world international started it.

Whereas others, may have already gotten there main banned from the forums, for a volation of the rules.

Also to whom it may concern, no I do NOT post on an alt, never have, and don't really plan on it. It something really does urk me the wrong way, I will post it on here, no matter how stupid or dumb it makes me look.

EDIT: While i agree it is good to see advice from the high levels of a specific class-question, you shouldn't always judge a book by it's cover. I mean there are some very intelligent remarks, and deductions based on the smallest information gathered in there short time on there character. I mean I would rather take advice froma level 5x who is conducting him or her self in a very respectable manner, and telling me that what they are doing is working real good for them, and explaining how it works, then a level 100 coming in, and just telling 'yea, demon spark rocks.'
Ah, Mistakes are so easily made. ~ laura resnick

its called /b/ syndrome. these kids think 'anon' is so cool, that they have to be one. its supposed to be an anti conformist thing to stand up against those that'd censor our rights to freedom of expression, but these same ideals lead everyone to meld into a single cohesive conformist group.

'we have to spam internet jargon and repeat overly used cliche memes to feel cool!'

they take off their masks and show what humanity is for itself, garbage. they can hide behind their little facades and display little nuances of ****. they vehemently go out of their way to try and evoke feelings of self worthlessness, hate, anger frustration etc. it truly is a sad sight to behold how they are what they fight against.

they are legion, they do not forgive, they do not forget, or so they say.
